How to Write a Compare and Contrast Essay
Instructions of How to Write a Compare and Contrast Essay
1
First look at the items you are supposed to compare and contrast. Do you understand them? If you
are writing an essay outside of class, look them up. Start with your text book but also look at your
notes from class, and even go and check them out at Wikipedia. If you are taking a test, and can't
look things up, pause and think over what these things mean. The next two steps will help you
remember.
2
Make a list of ways the two items are the same. This is the "compare" part of a compare and contrast
essay. (For an in class essay, it will be good if you can bring in extra paper. If you can't, you can
make some notes on the back of your blue book.)

If you feel they are more different than the same, start by comparing the similarities.
7
Now get to your point of view. If you are writing a classic "five paragraph essay" you may want to
spend a whole paragraph pointing out what is wrong with the arguments you made for the other
side. If don't have to meet a specific number of paragraphs, you can just get straight to supporting
your own point of view. Look at your list items that support you, and write about them all, and why
they are important.
8
With compare and contrast essays, the conclusion will be a lot like the introduction. You summarize
what you just said. You may find that some points came up in writing that you hadn't put in your
intro. This is a good time to refer back to those.
9
If this is not an in–class essay test, you should try to set the essay aside after you finish, so you can
go back later with your mind fresh. You may come up with a few other items you want to talk about
on your compare or contrast list. You may come up with a better way to write your introduction or
conclusion.
If you can master how to write compare and contrast essays, you will find that you can use that form
for a lot of other essays when the instructor doesn't give you a format.

Government Compare And Contrast Essay
In the United States of America there exists a constant conflict between the federal government
and the state governments. Despite their differences, the two have a variety of similarities that
range from how they are organized to the types of policies each decides to pass. A major
similarity is the executive branches that exists in both forms of government. While the president is
the head of the executive branch for the federal government, in Texas the governor plays the same
role as the president would. Both of these figures are required to address their respective Congress
in order to give updates and suggestions for the next term year. Today, we will examine President

First, we will start with President Donald Trump's State of the Union. President Trump focuses on
a number of issue ranging from tax reform to national security. A major differentiation between
his speech and Governor Abbott's is the issue of health care. He believes that healthcare needs to
be more affordable and still give citizens the ability to choose their doctors. He plans to resolve the
issue my repealing and replacing Obamacare. The second major issue addressed was national
security. Trump states that illegal immigration is a major problem and should be fixed by moving
on to a merit–based immigration system. This basically means that no one can enter the country
unless they are already able to support their families. Also, by moving to a merit–based immigration
system, Trump believes that millions of jobs will be created and protected, thus bringing down the
unemployment rate. Lastly, Trump focuses on the state of the economy. Trump suggests tax reform
and redistribution as being the sole solution to the United States national debt issues. He proposes a
tax cut for both corporations and the middle class while also raising taxes on foreign trade. Trump
also asked for a trillion dollars from both public and private capital goes towards rebuilding America's
infrastructure. While President Trump focuses on the health care and the economy, Governor Abbott

Compare And Contrast Worldviews
Comparing Worldviews
Worldviews vary from person to person and faith to faith, resulting in everyone seeing the world
through their own assumptions and beliefs. Out of the many worldviews discussed in the text,
Integrative Approaches to Psychology and Christianity, and in class three stood out to me for
comparison. These three worldviews consist of Naturalism, Pantheism and Polytheism.
Worldviews, although not always correct, are how people see the world and reflect on our
expectations about life. Differences can be seen in beliefs such as if they believe in a spiritual
world, a material world, or both. Worldview's purposes are to explain the purpose of man and the
world. All three worldviews attribute the problems in the world to different aspects based on their
beliefs and have diverse notions of how to resolve the world problems. Although a few similarities
can be found among these world views, there are multiple differences found.
When attempting to explain the purpose of man and the world, all three worldviews use different
approaches. Naturalism believes man is here by chance, that humanity just happened and one day it
will phase off the earth. Polytheism takes the approach of men and creatures on earth being the
creation of gods and were put here to entertain the gods and spirits. Pantheism believes only in a
spiritual world, so everything outside the spiritual world is an illusion. Naturalism and Pantheism are
on complete opposite ends of the spectrum

Essay about Renting Versus Buying
Buying a home can be an exciting experience for anyone. However, in some cases you just might
be better off continuing to rent your home. There are many advantages to buying a home. However,
it is not for everyone and buying varies from individual to individual. Currently more people are
leaning towards renting but this could change in the near future.
When someone makes the decision to buy or rent a home they must consider the advantages and
disadvantages of each. In buying a home the primary advantage is that you actually own it. You
can do whatever you want with it. Also, you are building equity as the years go by. "People today
have problems saving for their future" (CNN Money, 2014). However, when they buy a home, the

You might be better off paying a reasonable amount for rent and saving your money when buying
seems more logical. Also, it depends on lifestyle preferences. Some people may not want to do all
the work that comes along with owning a home. As of right now many people are leaning towards
renting. This is because the market is going down. Some don't want to commit to a mortgage if
when they go to sell they can't find any buyers.
It is likely that the renting trend will decline and buying will increase in the future but it is hard to
say when. However, "if rent keeps rising and prices keep falling, fearful buyers could slowly
become bargain hunters." (Business Week, 2014). I feel that people will eventually get tired of
spending there money on rent and will want to invest more in there future. I don't think that the real
estate market will ever be a boom again. I believe that people have learned that just because
interest rates are low doesn't mean they can financially take on a mortgage. Overall, buying a
house is a big decision and should be looked at carefully. You should look at the advantages and
disadvantages of each and decide what is best for you in your life. There is no way to pin point if
buying or renting is best for anyone. Currently many prefer to rent their homes. However, as rent
rise, a majority may soon change their minds.

Work experience versus a college education. Which of these two is best in helping you to land a
better paying job? Many college graduates may argue that having an Associate Degree or Bachelor
Degree is an essential key to landing a top paying job. People with work experience and skills argue
theyhave an edge over someone with a degree that has no real–worldwork experience. They believe
this gives them an opportunity for a better paying job.Plus, people with work experience do not have
to deal with the added student debt that comes with acquiring such degrees.
When looking through the help wanted ads in newspapers or in employment agencies, you will see

Compare and Contrast Two Short Stories
Compare and Contrast Two Short Stories––
Landlady by Roald Dahl and Chemistry by Graham Swift
There are lots of great short stories out there, but in my opinion, both 'Chemistry' by Graham Swift
and 'The Landlady' by Roald Dahl are two of the most unique and effective stories. They share both
similarities and differences throughout. Comparing and contrasting the way the authors use their
inimitable writing style to achieve their intentions in the story will give us more idea how these
stories are alike and distinct.
In a way, these two stories are similar because both the authors had carefully chosen the words

such a nice landlady who give him a well–appointed service, but as the conversations go on, Billy

the far corner of the room, biting his lower lip.' tells the readers that he's begin to frightened and
suspect landlady, foreshadowing the readers that she might be doing something that couldn't be
trusted by Billy.
In another way, these two stories are different because the authors have been using different
perspective when narrating the story. In 'Chemistry', author's written the story in the word of narrator,
mixing both the perspective of adult and young boy's. Line" My father's death was a far less
remote event than my grandfather's but no more explicable, I was only seven." can be a good
example. Almost the whole story was written in past tense, added to the effect of recalling. He's
shown a grown up man recalling memories when he was back in 7–10 years old. This kind of
writing style makes readers felt more personal, because the subject is 'I', when reading out the
story, readers will feel like they're experiencing the narrators' life, as if they are the narrator. Also,
another interesting fact about this kind of writing style is that if I were to look at the same events in
other character's perspective, it might be another whole different story because

Compare And Contrast Traditional Teaching Styles
No teachers are similar as well as no students learn in the same way. Every teacher has their own
unique teaching style which is based on their educational philosophy, their classroom's demographic,
what subject area they teach, and the school's mission statement. Up until now, teachers are looking
for a system that will engage students in the educational process and will develop the students'
critical thinking skills. Moreover, teachers want the classroom to be in order and in control, but they
also want their students to appreciate the learning procedure. These teaching styles can be divided
into two approaches – the teacher–centered and learner–centered.
Traditional teaching styles use teacher–centered approach. It includes a teacher that stands at the
front and tells students step by step instructions. The teacher decides what is learned, when it is
learned, how it is learned, and how learning is evaluated. In a nutshell, the teacher is an information
giver and evaluator. The students are just there to learn through lessons and direct instructions. Their
attention is mainly focused on passing tests, assessments, and evaluations.
Through the years, many successful people have came from the traditional setting. The earliest
recorded occurrence of education proved that people learned in a...show more content...

Choosing a college means going to a new, unfamiliar world of immense possibilities. One of the
hardest decisions a high school graduate face is the choice between attending a Community College

differences and similarities in their learning such as the admission requirements, expenses, size, and

Students attending private universities pay an average tuition of $35,374. Those who attend a
community college for the first two year of their education save $8,000 or more. Since most of the
same financial aid including Pell grants and Stafford loans is available for any institution choice,
students in the lowest income brackets can expect a larger financial aid refund from a community
college than a university. Those who need a university education to meet their career goals may be
able to attend a community college part time while they work and save up. Then, when they transfer
to a university for their final two years, they may have saved enough that with financial aid, they can
pursue their four–year degree.
Community Colleges tend to have fewer students per class, which means more attention from
teacher to student. This is good for students who like access to their instructors so they can ask
questions and avoid getting lost in the course material. Universities are bigger than community
colleges and it takes a little longer to find your way around campus. Most teenagers graduate from
high school eager to leave their parents house and do grown up things. The benefit of attending a
University is living on campus instead of your parent's home. Not all universities have dorms, but the
majority of them do. Which you have to pay for parking, fitness center, laundry and other fees

Comparing Cultures
October 21, 2017
Comparing Cultures
When comparing cultures, one must form a definition of what culture is. Culture can be easily
defined as the social behavior and normality's found in human societies. It can also be easily made
up of a composed arrangement of educated conduct and thought designs. Culture is a sorted out
framework since it includes many parts. Throughout the world, there are many cultures that are
both very different and also very similar. "Culture encompasses religion, food, what we wear, how
we wear it, our language, marriage, music, what we believe is right or wrong, how we sit at table,
how we greet visitors, how we behave and one million other things." (Cristina De Rossi.)...show

In people, culture must be learned through experiences. For most countries, learned behaviors are
passed down from one generation to the next. The purpose behind this is on the grounds that
culture isn 't natural like in creatures because they are not conceived with it. People will begin to
get their way of life during childbirth and it takes numerous years to take in the way of life like
how to talk the dialect and comply with the rules that everyone must follow, that is the reason it is
said we should respect their elders.
The two countries that we are going to compare are India and China. The greatest contrast among
Indian China is the level of development in both nations. Advancement can be seeing more in India
than in China and the struck me the most. There could be many variables causing this distinction. To
begin with, let 's examine the differences in the government of meat country. Since the meaning of
time, the Chinese government is continuing to do things their way heavily influencing what happens
in the country. They have inumerous laws that directly or indirectly cause a standstill with
innovation. The majority of the things our state possessed in China bus to begin something intends

Comparing Two Works Of Art Essay
Comparing two works of art
For my final project, I will compare two pieces of art and show the comparisons and differences
that they have in the Greek ancient period and the modern period of the same theme "the
representation of the Trojan war". The visual work art is a bilingual art because it was made with
the participation of two artists, Andokides (Red figure) and the Lysippides (Black figure) and it is
titled "Achilles and Ajax Playing a Dice a Game". It was painted in 525–520 B.C in Greece and it
represents the ancient Greece. The literary artwork I will consider is The Iliad, an epic poem by the
ancient Greek poet Homer in 750 BCE. I will compare both artworks and connect them to the
contemporary period debating the similarities and differences that the poem and the ceramic have
and how they influenced our modern world, which help the creation of the film Troy led by Brad
Pitt, Eric Bana and Orlando Bloom in 2004.
The bilingual amphora was painted in Athens, Greece during the ancient Greek period in a black
figure and red figure style. This was a typical style in Athens, Greece at that time and it was
mainly to decorate fine pottery. Most of the amphoras were made in sections initially (neck and
body) and were put together afterwards (the foot and handles). This pottery was not for everyday
use, but it was affordable for most of the population. This fine Greek pottery goes back to the
Minoan and Mycenaean pottery of the Bronze Age. The black figure technique focused

A Comparative Analysis of Eating Out vs. Eating at Home
Eating is essential part of our lives, and it is a necessity for human survival as it is for all other
living species. While all living organisms need to eat to survive human race has more ways on how
to satisfy their eating necessity. Two ways that humans can satisfy their hunger is by making a
choice whether they prefer to eat out or stay at home and cook. Eating out has become popular trend
in today's society, especially among younger generations. With wide variety in deliciousfood
offered, and chance to enjoy it with your loved ones, eating out has become primary choice for
many busy adults. Eating at home gives us an opportunity to enjoy diverse food choices as well,
and it can be also enjoyed with family and friends alike. Cooking is one of the oldest crafts that
has been passed down from our older generations, and is still popular among many that enjoy
preparing food at home. While eating out and eating at home are similar in variety of delicious
foods offered, and chance to share it with our families and friends, nutritional health value choices
are different for each of them. Eating out offers less control on nutritionally healthy food choices,
and eating at home gives you more control on what kind of nutritional foods are we consuming.

Prepositions are one of the basic structures that make up the whole sentence. Even though some

How To Make A Compare And Contrast Essay

  • 1. How to Write a Compare and Contrast Essay Instructions of How to Write a Compare and Contrast Essay 1 First look at the items you are supposed to compare and contrast. Do you understand them? If you are writing an essay outside of class, look them up. Start with your text book but also look at your notes from class, and even go and check them out at Wikipedia. If you are taking a test, and can't look things up, pause and think over what these things mean. The next two steps will help you remember. 2 Make a list of ways the two items are the same. This is the "compare" part of a compare and contrast essay. (For an in class essay, it will be good if you can bring in extra paper. If you can't, you can make some notes on the back of your blue book.) Sponsored Links...show more content... If you feel they are more different than the same, start by comparing the similarities. 7 Now get to your point of view. If you are writing a classic "five paragraph essay" you may want to spend a whole paragraph pointing out what is wrong with the arguments you made for the other side. If don't have to meet a specific number of paragraphs, you can just get straight to supporting your own point of view. Look at your list items that support you, and write about them all, and why they are important. 8 With compare and contrast essays, the conclusion will be a lot like the introduction. You summarize what you just said. You may find that some points came up in writing that you hadn't put in your intro. This is a good time to refer back to those. 9 If this is not an in–class essay test, you should try to set the essay aside after you finish, so you can go back later with your mind fresh. You may come up with a few other items you want to talk about on your compare or contrast list. You may come up with a better way to write your introduction or conclusion. If you can master how to write compare and contrast essays, you will find that you can use that form for a lot of other essays when the instructor doesn't give you a format. • 3. Government Compare And Contrast Essay In the United States of America there exists a constant conflict between the federal government and the state governments. Despite their differences, the two have a variety of similarities that range from how they are organized to the types of policies each decides to pass. A major similarity is the executive branches that exists in both forms of government. While the president is the head of the executive branch for the federal government, in Texas the governor plays the same role as the president would. Both of these figures are required to address their respective Congress in order to give updates and suggestions for the next term year. Today, we will examine President Donald Trump's State of the Union to Governor Greg Abbott's State of...show more content... First, we will start with President Donald Trump's State of the Union. President Trump focuses on a number of issue ranging from tax reform to national security. A major differentiation between his speech and Governor Abbott's is the issue of health care. He believes that healthcare needs to be more affordable and still give citizens the ability to choose their doctors. He plans to resolve the issue my repealing and replacing Obamacare. The second major issue addressed was national security. Trump states that illegal immigration is a major problem and should be fixed by moving on to a merit–based immigration system. This basically means that no one can enter the country unless they are already able to support their families. Also, by moving to a merit–based immigration system, Trump believes that millions of jobs will be created and protected, thus bringing down the unemployment rate. Lastly, Trump focuses on the state of the economy. Trump suggests tax reform and redistribution as being the sole solution to the United States national debt issues. He proposes a tax cut for both corporations and the middle class while also raising taxes on foreign trade. Trump also asked for a trillion dollars from both public and private capital goes towards rebuilding America's infrastructure. While President Trump focuses on the health care and the economy, Governor Abbott targets Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 5. Compare And Contrast Worldviews Comparing Worldviews Worldviews vary from person to person and faith to faith, resulting in everyone seeing the world through their own assumptions and beliefs. Out of the many worldviews discussed in the text, Integrative Approaches to Psychology and Christianity, and in class three stood out to me for comparison. These three worldviews consist of Naturalism, Pantheism and Polytheism. Worldviews, although not always correct, are how people see the world and reflect on our expectations about life. Differences can be seen in beliefs such as if they believe in a spiritual world, a material world, or both. Worldview's purposes are to explain the purpose of man and the world. All three worldviews attribute the problems in the world to different aspects based on their beliefs and have diverse notions of how to resolve the world problems. Although a few similarities can be found among these world views, there are multiple differences found. When attempting to explain the purpose of man and the world, all three worldviews use different approaches. Naturalism believes man is here by chance, that humanity just happened and one day it will phase off the earth. Polytheism takes the approach of men and creatures on earth being the creation of gods and were put here to entertain the gods and spirits. Pantheism believes only in a spiritual world, so everything outside the spiritual world is an illusion. Naturalism and Pantheism are on complete opposite ends of the spectrum Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Essay about Renting Versus Buying Buying a home can be an exciting experience for anyone. However, in some cases you just might be better off continuing to rent your home. There are many advantages to buying a home. However, it is not for everyone and buying varies from individual to individual. Currently more people are leaning towards renting but this could change in the near future. When someone makes the decision to buy or rent a home they must consider the advantages and disadvantages of each. In buying a home the primary advantage is that you actually own it. You can do whatever you want with it. Also, you are building equity as the years go by. "People today have problems saving for their future" (CNN Money, 2014). However, when they buy a home, the ...show more content... You might be better off paying a reasonable amount for rent and saving your money when buying seems more logical. Also, it depends on lifestyle preferences. Some people may not want to do all the work that comes along with owning a home. As of right now many people are leaning towards renting. This is because the market is going down. Some don't want to commit to a mortgage if when they go to sell they can't find any buyers. It is likely that the renting trend will decline and buying will increase in the future but it is hard to say when. However, "if rent keeps rising and prices keep falling, fearful buyers could slowly become bargain hunters." (Business Week, 2014). I feel that people will eventually get tired of spending there money on rent and will want to invest more in there future. I don't think that the real estate market will ever be a boom again. I believe that people have learned that just because interest rates are low doesn't mean they can financially take on a mortgage. Overall, buying a house is a big decision and should be looked at carefully. You should look at the advantages and disadvantages of each and decide what is best for you in your life. There is no way to pin point if buying or renting is best for anyone. Currently many prefer to rent their homes. However, as rent rise, a majority may soon change their minds. • 7. Work experience versus a college education. Which of these two is best in helping you to land a better paying job? Many college graduates may argue that having an Associate Degree or Bachelor Degree is an essential key to landing a top paying job. People with work experience and skills argue theyhave an edge over someone with a degree that has no real–worldwork experience. They believe this gives them an opportunity for a better paying job.Plus, people with work experience do not have to deal with the added student debt that comes with acquiring such degrees. When looking through the help wanted ads in newspapers or in employment agencies, you will see that the higher paying positions usually ask for a college degree. High Fliers Research managing director Martin Birchall told The Huffington Post that work experience is "now just as important" as a college degree.(Life, 2015)You can be certain that many employers feel that people with work experience are more likely to be responsible. They have the necessary skills needed to work efficiently and value their jobs thus making them more dependable and have a better understanding of what is expected of them.According to an article by Richard Garner,"Leading employers value work experience among graduates more than the grades or the university they have been to, according to new research. • 8. Compare and Contrast Two Short Stories Compare and Contrast Two Short Stories–– Landlady by Roald Dahl and Chemistry by Graham Swift There are lots of great short stories out there, but in my opinion, both 'Chemistry' by Graham Swift and 'The Landlady' by Roald Dahl are two of the most unique and effective stories. They share both similarities and differences throughout. Comparing and contrasting the way the authors use their inimitable writing style to achieve their intentions in the story will give us more idea how these stories are alike and distinct. In a way, these two stories are similar because both the authors had carefully chosen the words ...show more content... In the beginning , Billy thought the landlady was 'terribly nice',which he was quite grateful to have such a nice landlady who give him a well–appointed service, but as the conversations go on, Billy was then frightened by her weird and creepy contents, he 'sat there staring straight ahead of him into the far corner of the room, biting his lower lip.' tells the readers that he's begin to frightened and suspect landlady, foreshadowing the readers that she might be doing something that couldn't be trusted by Billy. In another way, these two stories are different because the authors have been using different perspective when narrating the story. In 'Chemistry', author's written the story in the word of narrator, mixing both the perspective of adult and young boy's. Line" My father's death was a far less remote event than my grandfather's but no more explicable, I was only seven." can be a good example. Almost the whole story was written in past tense, added to the effect of recalling. He's shown a grown up man recalling memories when he was back in 7–10 years old. This kind of writing style makes readers felt more personal, because the subject is 'I', when reading out the story, readers will feel like they're experiencing the narrators' life, as if they are the narrator. Also, another interesting fact about this kind of writing style is that if I were to look at the same events in other character's perspective, it might be another whole different story because Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Compare And Contrast Two Friends We all have friends that are alike or different from each other. My friend Nicole and Amy are also friends. Both of them are alike in some ways, but at the same time unlike from each other. For example, they both dress to their comfort, but the clothes they choose to wear are different. They both have similar taste in music and television shows. However, Nicole and Amy are more different than alike. Nicole and Amy have different appearance and style. Nicole is five feet and two inches with medium brown wavy hair that is shoulder length. She has big eyes and also freckles on her face. Nicole tends to dress very casually. For an instant, she would wear jean with a graphic tee or a blouse and navy blue classic vans. She occasionally keeps up with the latest fashion trend. On the other hand, Amy is just 5 feet tall with...show more content... Nicole's personality is super shy and, quiet when it comes to new people or people she rarely talks to. However, when it comes to people she likes and enjoys talking to, she is a social butterfly. Amy was never in any a team sport. However, she plays tennis with her cousins for fun. Amy is really sociable and blunt at the same time. I remember a time during lunch there was a table across from us were talking super loud and she shout "shut up". Amy is not afraid to speak her mind while Nicole is more shy and quiet. Nicole cannot stand watching gory, horror and supernatural movie. For example, during summer, our friend, Julie, invited Nicole, Amy, and Iwatch Green Inferno. Nicole did not want to come along due to the fact that when she watched the trailer of that movie she found it super gory and disgusting. However, Amy did not find that trailer gory and disgusting and came long to watch the movie with us. Amy enjoys watching horror or supernatural movie or shows. • 11. Compare And Contrast Traditional Teaching Styles No teachers are similar as well as no students learn in the same way. Every teacher has their own unique teaching style which is based on their educational philosophy, their classroom's demographic, what subject area they teach, and the school's mission statement. Up until now, teachers are looking for a system that will engage students in the educational process and will develop the students' critical thinking skills. Moreover, teachers want the classroom to be in order and in control, but they also want their students to appreciate the learning procedure. These teaching styles can be divided into two approaches – the teacher–centered and learner–centered. Traditional teaching styles use teacher–centered approach. It includes a teacher that stands at the front and tells students step by step instructions. The teacher decides what is learned, when it is learned, how it is learned, and how learning is evaluated. In a nutshell, the teacher is an information giver and evaluator. The students are just there to learn through lessons and direct instructions. Their attention is mainly focused on passing tests, assessments, and evaluations. Through the years, many successful people have came from the traditional setting.
