2. Masthead . Large and clear placed at the top of the page. It uses a simple font type that can be read by all audience groups. The advantage of having a simple masthead makes it easier to read and it allows it to be suitable for all audience types. The masthead design is not aimed at a specific audience group. Simplicity in masthead design choice also allows the masthead to become recognizable and popular to the audience. The people featured within a newspaper vary with the news that is being delivered. In this example the news of the front page (national news) is related to the royal family, therefore the express and star will feature a photo taken of the royal family members being mentioned in the article. Photographs of people tend to be natural and non-posed/un-exaggerated, depending on the news story. These photos are very different to images used in a magazine, where people may go through a photo shoot process to get a good photo, Whereas, in newspaper “paparazzi” images or photographers who are employed by the company are used. 7. Editor is the head of the newspaper, they decide what stories should be featured in the newspaper. Sub editor informs the writers which stories will be featured and check the stories to see if anything can be changed to make the story appeal to more people. Cartoonist makes cartoons in each issue of the newspaper and also makes comic strips. Sports writer goes to sporting events and writes a report about those events. Photographer takes pictures which will be featured in the newspaper. Reporters/Journalists write news stories for the newspaper. (Feature writers write less news-orientated articles). 8. By carrying out a textual analysis of all these newspapers we can see that all of the newspapers contain the same features because all of the features are important and vital for the newspaper. These are features such as showing the masthead on both pages, date, and images and a consistent amount of columns used in all the pages. What is different between all newspapers is design, layout and house style. Depending on the target audience and type of news the institution delivers, will have an effect on the design of the newspaper. In example, “Thelondonpaper” is remotely aimed at a younger audience, so they layout of their newspaper looked like a tabloid and would appeal and attract a younger audience by having a less-traditional appearance. I personally prefer the newspaper designs that have a less-traditional appearance because they appeal to my age group and will contain and deliver news which would be more appealing to my specific age group. I hope to achieve these conventions of tabloid newspapers within my production, particularly on the front cover.
