has built a product base of SMS marketing and mass texting
solutions that help its clients scale their business in new
ways. The easy-to-use TextMarks platform has garnered
attention from a wide range of clients including non-profits.
SMS has been a favorite communication tool of non-profits
since the Red Cross used it to facilitate a prominent disaster
relief drive for Haiti in 2010. Campaigns like these can now
reach 90 percent of the United States population, thanks to
widespread use of mobile phones. However, the capabilities
of non-profit SMS strategies expand far beyond donation
drives.
The prompt nature of text messaging provides non-profits
with the perfect method of engaging their supporters anytime
and anywhere.
SMS Strategies
 This is particularly useful in cases when an organization has
a limited amount of time to organize aid for a cause. With
SMS, non-profits will therefore be able to quickly contact their
supporters and provide directions for them to follow.
Throughout an event, organizers can also distribute
messages that provide progress updates or encourage them
to share information among their own contacts to generate
more awareness.
Another effective SMS strategy that non-profits can use is
education. One such campaign from the National Healthy
Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition allowed pregnant mothers
to subscribe for helpful maternity and post-natal information.
A number of other non-profits have also used SMS to
distribute materials about health issues and to educate
supporters about other important causes.
