This was a talk I did in Clayton, NY Thousand Islands School District in April 2010. It was in collaboration with my teen entrepreneur Matthew Turcotte, in celebration of his book launch for 'Main Street to Mainstream' and also his acceptance into Clarkson University (Full Scholarship for Entrepreneurship) and first student accepted into their Young Entrepreneur Award Program. This was one of my first 'major' speaking presentations. I can't believe how far I have come with my presentation skills in one year.

7. Share your story and encourage
others to do the same.
There are so many ways to express and share your
story – text messaging, art, sports and hobbies.

8. Get Your School Involved
Your school is more than an institution where
you go to learn set subjects. It’s like your office
that is supported by your parents tax dollars.
Teacher’s are skilled in many areas…
Good stories are good for your school and good
for your community.

9. Dream big and do big with
your friends.
We all want to be fearless,
loved and supported and your
friends naturally do that for

You learn to be successful by
celebrating the growth and
success of your friends.

11. Build opportunities by taking a
true interest in what is going on
around you.
Just because you don’t have
money, experience or are young
doesn’t mean you don’t bring
value to others.
Give 110% and be aware and
curious about what is going on
around you.
Don’t punch the clock, OWN the
clock! Shonika Proctor

12. Run towards your goals not
from your challenges.
Your family and friends
love you.
They will bring you
continuous inspiration
when you tell them what
you want and not what
you don’t.

13. Keep your community at
the heart of your decisions.
You are what’s missing!

14. Be determined.
The main thing is to keep the
main thing, the main thing.
Dwelling on failure means you
have lost focus on the bigger
picture. Accept that everything is
in its right order.
Opportunities come in the wake
of what was previously perceived
as failure.

15. ‘Live it’ in order
to learn it.
In closing- start sharing
your vision, your goals
and your passion with
others and yourself and
you’re on your way to
defining your own
opportunities.
