Falcon Spirit
CONVERSION OF A 1986
SHUTTLE TANKER TO A
FLOATING STORAGE
AND OFFLOADING UNIT
Client: Occidental Petroleum
Location: Al Rayyan Field, offshore Qartar
The Project
Occidental Petroleum was looking for an FSO vessel for
deployment on the Al Rayyan Field offshore Qatar. Teekay
was awarded the contract in April 2009 and delivery of
the Falcon Spirit took place 8 months later, in December
2009. This fast track project included procurement of the FSO
equipment and a conversion of the former shuttle tanker Sarita.
Al Rayyan is a large oil field located offshore Qatar. The field
is developed by a production jack-up rig and the Falcon Spirit
for storage. The FSO is moored to an SBM buoy using the
standard Bow Loading Equipment that has formerly been
used for 23 years on the vessel as a shuttle tanker.
Conventional tankers moor to the stern of the Falcon Spirit
for cargo transfer once every two months.
The Vessel
The vessel is a 125 000 dwt double hull Crude Oil Tanker built
by Daewoo Shipbuilding and Heavy Machinery, Korea in 1986.
