Statement Of Purpose: AP Environmental Science
I signed up to take AP Environmental Science this year because I was more interested in taking it
than expanding on solely biology or chemistry. This course includes several different fields of study
which is why I thought it would be very interesting and I would learn about several subjects
compared to just one. Before completing any work for this course, my definition of environmental
science would have been, the study of elements of the environment such as climate, soil, and water. I
also would have thought that the term environmentalism meant simply protecting the environment.
The difference between environmental science and environmentalism is that environmental science
is the study of the environment which runs more tests and experiments

Environmental Protection Agency Essay
1)When was the environmental protection agency (EPA) formed?
–1970
What events prompted its formation?
–The U.S. was rocked by a series of waste land toxic materials, the earth's automatic, self–cleansing,
life support systems became increasingly threatened and consequently people from all walks of life
and from every part of the political spectrum were expressing their anxieties on the streets and this
happened to b the largest public American demonstration ever seen in America. Hence prompting
President Richard Nixon transmitted Reorganization Plan No. 3 to the United States Congress by
executive order, creating the EPA as a single, independent agency from a number of smaller arms of
different federal agencies.

–The citizen suit provision of the Clean Water Actis an important tool to protect and improve rivers,
creeks, streams, and wetlands especially as state agencies may not have the resources to conduct
regular water quality monitoring on every water body. Citizen involvement in monitoring and
reporting pollution problems is key to watershed protection; hereby helping the government enforce
the laws.
4)The expression "canary in the coal mine" means an early warning of danger. (Coal miners would
carry canaries or small animals with them into mines to detect deadly but odorless and tasteless
methane gas.)
a)To what does the expression "canary in the coal mine' apply in poisoned waters?
I will say that as much as the expression "Canary in the coal mine" implies an early warning of
danger in mines so does it in water too. In this case the fish directly helps us know the extent to
which our ecological sphere is damaged, and helps humans to take the necessary precautions to save
the environment.
5)Twenty million Americans took to the streets for the first earth day in 1970 as a result of
pollution they could see an smell: the Cuyahoga river in Cleveland burned, with flames that
towered eight stories high; the 1969 oil spill in Santa Barbara closed virtually all the beaches in
southern California; people had declared Lake Erie dead.
a)How according to the film, have both pollution and people's reaction to Earth day

Caring About Our Environment Essay
Caring About Our Environment
Improving and maintaining the earth's environment is becoming a more important task every day of
our lives. Due to ignorance and frequent carelessness, this important task is quickly becoming a
critical one. For this reason, I took it upon myself to construct a strategic plan to enlighten my peers
to the problems of our environment. I did this in hopes that it would encourage everyone to act
responsibly towards improving and maintaining the environment. With ongoing threats to the earth's
water supply, atmosphere, and surface, I found it necessary to devise a method of environmental
enlightenment. I plan to apply this method at my place of academic study, The University. If

I recently discovered that one cheeseburger takes more than 700 gallons of water to produce
(includes water consumed by cows, water used to irrigate the cornfields that feed the cows, and the
water used to produce the beef and cheese). When considering the millions of cheeseburgers that are
consumed worldwide everyday, it is evident that the earth's water supply is declining rapidly. Due to
air pollution, the ozone layer is also being consumed at an extreme rate. Its arch nemesis is the
various fumes from cars and factories. Scientists estimate that each 1% drop in ozone levels causes
a 3 to 6% rise in skin cancer cases. Since the ozone layer prevents most ultraviolet and other
high–energy radiation from penetrating to the earth's surface, this is a crisis that has to be rectified.
The ozone's depletion has dropped to a level so thin that if we brought it down to Earth, it would
only be as deep as the thickness of three dimes. The only positive outlook concerning this matter is
that the ozone has the ability to reconstruct itself when UV–C rays break the bond of O2. Single
oxygen atoms combine with O2 to form ozone (UV–B rays limit this process still yet). This evidence
shows that the world is in dire need of an environmental resurrection. In order for this to occur and
be successful, it would require an effort by every individual nation of our world.
My resolution requires that The University of South Carolina

The Protection Of Environmental Quality
Introduction
Protection of environmental quality is a globally growing concern, and there has been an increasing
use of economic instruments in the environment protection policies, such as tradable permits or
pollution charges, to reduce environmental harm by harnessing economic incentives to encourage
the industries. In New South Wales, the Environment Protection Authority ("EPA") introduced the
load–based licensing ("LBL") scheme as a new approach of environment protection licence under the
Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997 (NSW) ("POEO Act") and the Protection of the
Environment Operations (General) Regulations 2009 (NSW). Subsequently, a broader range of
pollution issues is now embraced under the LBL system by...show more content...
In the past, a fixed fee was charged to the industries, and it was difficult to find a relationship
between pollutant discharges and the licence fee. Inequity in licence fees was resulted therefrom,
and there was very little incentive available for licence holders. Consequently, this approach was
regarded as an unpleasant cost, and the earnest licence holders had to be economically disadvantaged
by the neglected licensing system. Furthermore, ineffective system in environment protection licence
failed to reduce emissions and irreversible impacts on the environment were perceived.
To overcome those issues stated above, the EPA of New South Wales updated the POEO Act, and
as a result, legislations including the Waste Minimisation and Management Act 1995 (NSW), were
repealed and incorporated into the POEO Act. Under the Chapter 3 of the POEO Act and the
Protection of the Environment Operations (General) Regulation 2009 (NSW) , LBL is implemented
as a new method of charging a licensing fee based on the amounts of the pollution emission resulted
from the licensed activities. In accordance to the LBL scheme, licence holders are charged an annual
licence fee which consists of the administrative fee and the load–based fee. The load–based fee
depends on the amounts of the pollutant discharged, and the administration fee is payable in each
reporting period. Unlike the traditional approach, the LBL enhances

Environmental Stewardship And The Environment
The environment is a reflection of the individuals that occupy it. The quality of the environment is
the result of the choices and actions that have been made by the occupants. It is the population 's
responsibility to validate that the activities that are taking place are environmentally responsible and
not harmful to its people. It is extremely important to sustain the environment and its natural
resources for the future generations. Therefore, environmental stewardship is the responsible use
and protection of the natural resources and environment through conservation, ecological, recycling,
regeneration, and restoration practices. There are practices that are put into place to increase the
environmental stewardship, which include the efficiency of using resources, reducing the waste, and
providing an efficient and a healthy work environment. However, the three most important concepts
are the efficiency, ecologically, and healthy. Efficiency is using the minimum required resources
while producing the minimum amount of waste. Ecologically refers to recycled and non–toxic
products and healthy refers to generating the least amount of noise, visual, and physical pollution. It
is essential to implement an environmental stewardship regime; there are many benefits of these
implementations such as economic benefits, human health benefits, and conservation and protection
of the environment itself. In Northern Canada, the boreal forest lies on gigantic tar sands stores and

Importance Of Protecting The Environment Essay
Our environment undoubtedly has many things we can use to benefit our everyday lives. Even if
our environment is not in tip–top shape, we need to start taking care of it better. If we don't many
things will happen. These things include plants dying, animals going extinct, air becoming polluted,
coral reefs dying, and water rapidly coming contaminated. Another problem our environment has to
face, overcome, or adapt too is Global Warming. Global Warming has and will continue to impact our
environment worldwide if we do not begin taking immediate action and do something to protect our
environment.
Protecting our environment is indeed the first action that should be taken. Protecting the
environment should take place locally and globally in my opinion. There are many things that our
local environment could do that would have have a tremendous impact on our environment that
genuinely would not take oodles of effort. A few of these could be as easy as recycling soda cans,
old school or work papers, and glass bottles and taking them to a local recycling center. When you
recycle you are reusing things or making them into new things. Two more examples would be
hosting or participating in a highway clean up, or planting a community garden at a park. Globally,
humans are responsible for Greenhouse Gasses, pollution, and fossil fuel shortages. Globally, if
everyone pitched in just a little bit, greenhouse gas emissions could go down drastically. The way we
could cut these emissions

The Problem Of Environmental Protection Essay
Theodore Roosevelt had once said, "The nation behaves well if it treats the natural resources as
assets which it must turn over to the next generation increased, and not impaired in value". These
words have resonated since and have been an example as to why it is our duty as inhabitants of
this planet to provide protection to the ever so fragile environment. But what is Environmental
protection exactly? Well it is one of the most important, and expensive problems businesses and
society are facing today. Why you may ask? Since the industrial age all the countries around the
world have been burning an assortment of fuel to power factories, vehicles, heat homes, and even
to cook with and when these fuels are burned they emit carbon dioxide and various other chemicals
which over time add up and take a very long time to breakdown. As a result they trap heat from the
sun in the earth's atmosphere raising the global temperature and causing a domino effect on the
environment. Likewise companies produce hazardous waste and dump them illegally in waters
which kills vast amounts of marine life. Although laws are in place to protect the planet, inventions
are slowly being created to provide alternative sources of energy and agencies already exist to
protect the environment. However it is our duty as people in a society to act on our own by
demanding for our government to show greater concern for the environment by reforming
environmental protection laws with stricter guide lines,

Research Question: What are some of the measures that need to be implemented by the Jamaican
Government to protect endangered animal species?
Introduction:
"The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be measured by the way its animals are
treated." This proclamation that is attributed to the great Mahatma Gandhi has frighteningly opposed
the graphic and upsetting images of slaughtered, abused and neglected animals that are so often seen
in newspapers and on social media. Animals play a very essential role in our environment. They
assist with the maintenance of biodiversity in nature. Moreover, many animal species are in danger of

Deforestation, burning and bulldozing of their habitat must be prevented or minimized. Moreover,
the government can construct more national parks, wildlife preserves and nature reserves so that
endangered species can be free from negative human interference. These places allow endangered
animal to have a suitable habitat, which will accelerate their survival rate. All animal life is
important and worth protecting because they help to maintain an equilibrium in the ecosystem.
II.Secondly, teaching animal welfare in schools should be employed as the primary tool to execute
protection of endangered animals in our Jamaican society; since not everyone is aware that some
animals are at risk of extinction.
A.Teaching animal welfare will educate the active and passive abusers about animal protection so
that they can implement better measures to protect endangered species.
B.According to Phillips (2009) teaching animal welfare in schools will result in an improvement in
animal wellbeing. Thus, the use of education is an effective avenue to achieve an improvement in
the treatment and care of endangered

The Importance Of Environmental Protection
As you know, environmental issue is increasingly threaten our health. However, many people have
no awareness of environmental protection and don't care about the problem occurred when they
discard their used goods.
Broader issue
Recently, environmental issues have raised more concerns. However, many people don't notice that
some environmental problems are caused by unused items.
Disposing of waste has huge environmental impacts and can cause serious problems. People need
to decide whether to throw it, donate it or resale it and where to throw the unneeded goods.
Inappropriate disposal of unneeded goods will lead to environmental issue. For instance, used
battery has hazardous material inside it. If just throw it as general garbage, soil...show more content...
38.3% respondents even have done so for many times. It is not only the waste of money, but also the
waste of natural resource.
It is easy for residents to find that they are surrounded by unneeded goods in dorm. Those items
include clothes, textbooks, cosmetics and electric appliance. 26.3% respondents mentioned
unwanted textbooks lie here and there in their room. What's more, 40.4% students would like to sell
their textbook at market when they are graduating.
Furthermore, residents in WKU have a positive opinion to second–hand products. 45.3% of them
think it helps to save money, which accounts for the largest proportion among these options. It is
easier for WKU residents to accept second–hand goods and the concept of recycling used items.
Intention to sell
Figure 1 shows people's intention to sell unused goods in exchange for cash. The majority of
students are willing to sell their unused goods because it truly meets their interests when others
make good use of unused goods. Therefore, there is a demand to reuse goods. There are 9.6%
respondents are indifferent, but for those group of people, they may also agree to sell their unused
products if we can persuade.
Reuse behavior
Not only the demand to sell, also the demand to buy shows in our survey. Figure 2 points out there
are 85.1% respondents use something used by someone else before. It not only includes those
people who use second–hand goods usually, also contains someone

Epa's Role In Protecting The Environment
The earth supplies humanity with a plethora of natural resources, but what has mankind done with
these gifts? The modern world is a marvel of carefully constructed skyscrapers, painstakingly
pieced together palaces, and brilliantly fabricated bridges. The United States has eliminated
diseases that used to plague entire nations, constructed hypersonic jets, and made advancements in
technology only dreamed about by past generations. However, society's beautiful and convenient
design has a cost. Habitat loss has forced thousands of species of animals to become endangered or
extinct. The improper disposal of toxic wastes has made a multitude of rivers and lakes unfit for
sustaining life. The use of pesticides has ill–effects on not only the environment and the wildlife, but
on people, too. However, the United States has made great strides in preserving the environment, and
fixing the damage done. This essay will explore environmental protection in regards to organizations
and legislation. One organization contributing to the conservation of the environment is the
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The EPA works nationally to assure the protection of the
environment through a variety of methods. For instance, the EPA enforces environmental laws and
regulations. According to the organization's website: EPA works with its federal, state and tribal
regulatory partners through a comprehensive Clean Water Act compliance monitoring program to
protect human health and the

the support of development, 2. the cleanness of water, 3. the green trade, 4. the exploitation of
energy, 5. the protection of environment. Specifically, the support of development is that developed
countries enlarge the economic assistance to the developing countries. The proportion of the
assistance should reach 0.7% of GDP. 2. the cleanness of water means that economizing the water

Pollution Control Boards to direct them to take appropriate measures to ensure pollution control.
For the aim of efficient and effective enforcement of these lays, it is compulsary to set up an

environment wraps land, water and air. Biological environment covers plants, animals and other
organisms. Both physical environment and biological environment are internally dependent.

The Importance Of Environmental Protection
Introduction According to Merriam–Webster dictionary, sustainability is defined as "of, relating to,
or being a method of harvesting or using a resource so that the resource is not depleted or
permanently damaged" (Merriam–Webster, 2017). The Federal Government regulates the specific
use and protection of natural resources through the Environmental Protection Agency (henceforth,
EPA). In 1962 Rachel Carson published a book called "Silent Spring" which popularized the idea of
environmental protection (EPA History, 2017). The momentum for protection of the environment
grew until, in 1970, President Richard Nixon established the EPA (EPA History, 2017). The EPA
bases their sustainability efforts on the idea that, "everything that we need for our survival and
well–being depends, either directly or indirectly, on our natural environment. To pursue sustainability
is to create and maintain the conditions under which humans and nature can exist in productive
harmony to support present and future generations." (Learn About Sustainability, 2016). The stated
mission of the EPA is to ensure Americans are protected from health and environmental risks,
national policies are based on available scientific data, environmental laws are enforced fairly,
environmental protection is a consideration during the creation of United States foreign and
domestic policies, environmental information provided to Americans is accurate, and ensuring that
the United States is a world leader in environmental

The environment and the health of the surrounding population go hand in hand. The Environmental
Protection Agency takes on this ever so important mission of protecting them both. The mission
statement of the EPA states, "The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Small Business
Programs is to support the protection of human health and the environment by advocating and
advancing the business, regulatory, and environmental compliance concerns of small and
socio–economically disadvantaged businesses, and minority academic institutions (US Enviromental
Protection Agency, 2010)." The impact of its mission can be defined clearly as it examines the
impact of contamination in the air, the water, and the land on human health. The EPA

exposure than adults; hence, protecting them from such exposure is vital for their livelihoods. In
1997 President William J. Clinton issued (CLINTON, 1997). The EO was designed to protection
children from environmental health and safety risks. Multiple reasons support the idea that kids
are more likely to come in contact with environmental health hazards. To educate the populous on
such matters the EPA formed the (TEACH) website. The goal of the TEACH project is to
complement existing children's health resources. TEACH does not provide an evaluation or
critique the validity of the relevant scientific studies; nor does TEACH derive toxicity values.
Instead, the goal of TEACH is to summarize, compile, and organize information obtained from
numerous resources into one online resource. TEACH is designed to support numerous efforts
throughout the country that target the protection of children's health (EPA, 2009). Molds can be
found roughly everywhere on the planet as long as the two most basic life requirements are
available, moisture and oxygen. When too much moisture is available mold growth will take place,
especially if the moisture is not controlled. Eliminating all molds and mold spores is nearly
impossible, but it can be controlled and is supported by the Clean Air Act.

Should we keep the Environmental Protection Agency? The EPA is the environmental protection
agency and they deal with keeping the environment clean and they enforce the laws to keep it clean.
The agency was put together by President Richard Nixon on December 2, 1970. He put them
together to enforce the fines, sanctions and other measures. Their headquarters is in Washington
D.C.The Environmental Protection Agency always has people wondering where they get the money,
what they will change, and how they help the world. Bill Clinton elected the head of the
environmental protection agency when he was elected and he chose Florida's secretary of
environmental regulations. To start off, President Bill Clinton elected Carol Browner to run the
environmental protection agency (Carol M. Browner 50). Carol Browner sticks up to what she
feels is important for today's society. To continue, Browner won her role by getting her respect
gained in 2 cases as Florida's secretary of environmental regulations (Carol M. Browner 50).
Browner was standing her ground when the federal government went after Florida to restore the
everglades. Lastly, Roosevelt and Pinchot were focused on the wise and efficient use of natural
resources (Geary 226). Roosevelt and Pinchot did whatever they needed to get more information on
natural resources. Bill Clinton chose Carol M. Browner because he knew that she would do her
best in this position and with all of her experience for this position and also Roosevelt wanted to
make the environment better for today's society and also for all of the societies to still come. The
Environmental Protective Agency works hard to make the environment better and they also work
hard to get enough money to fund it. According to multiple reports President Lyndon Johnson, "took
an interest in preservationist issues" (Girard 100). President Johnson was interested in the
Environmental Protection Agency and wanted to do whatever it was to be a part of it. To continue, a
case of environmental policy development, insufficient evidence to the benefit that environmental
goods provide to society and to see if it cost–benefit analysis against environmental protection

The Protection Of Environmental Deterioration
When a passion for a societal concern starts to become one's priority and they endorse themselves
in acts of promotion, recognition, and direct action, one may identify them as an activist. When I
think of an activist, I visualize an individual who shares a passionate connection with a concern and
demonstrates great knowledge and action towards the sharing and the prevention of the issue. This
semester I felt privileged to be able to listen to and observe a group of individuals who shared a
common passion that they all felt strongly towards; the environment. The level of passion towards an
issue can be as broad as the environmental deterioration, or as specific and local as the wetland loss
in Louisiana. The several guest speakers that I...show more content...

environmental activism that Myeengun participates in involves and an improvement in the human
contact and spiritual relationships between first nations and the environment (Henry, 2016, Lecture).
Human health is vulnerable to disturbances in the ecosystem which was noted through Myeengun's
attempts to promote the devastating impact that could happen if Line 9 were to burst. To see an
individual so inspired about an issue and take it to court and fight for justice for his community and
their surrounding environment engaged my knowledge of the environment greatly. It engaged my
learning and how looking after environmental issues that pertain to our community has the ability to
bring individuals together and conduct forms of resistance that can be transferred through future
generations (Henry, 2016, Lecture).

The Protection Of The Environment
Introduction
Information and public participation play an important role in the protection of the environment. To
that end they have become rights which are protected internationally, continentally and domestically,
ensuring that all citizens and organizations are able to play an active role in the management of the
environmental at all levels. By enabling public participation, governments are inevitably providing
transparency in governance and therefore reinforcing the legislative and institutional safeguards that
have been put in place to protect the environment. It is important that some level of transparency is
available regarding environmental decisions in order to allow the public be aware of
decision–making procedures, as well the...show more content...
Under Principle 10, public participation is a creature of three distinct requirements Firstly, there is a
recognition that participation does not occur in a vacuum; rather, it is facilitated by a healthy
understanding of the current state of the environment. The Rio Declaration recognized that "at the
national level, each individual shall have appropriate access to information concerning the
environment that is held by public authorities, including information on hazardous materials and
activities in their communities ."
As such, there is a responsibility on governments to make available information on the environment
and the current risks faced to the citizens. The Rio Declaration states that "states shall facilitate and
encourage public awareness and participation by making information widely available" . This
includes educating local communities as to the environmental risks they specifically face and their
sources. It also means providing an adequate mechanism for governmental bodies to provide this
information.
Secondly when the public is fully aware of the status of their environment, then citizens and interest
groups should be provided with "the opportunity to participate in the decision making–process ".
Individuals and organizations should have a say in the drafting of legislation, regulation and
guidelines.

Protection Of Environment Essay

  • 1. Statement Of Purpose: AP Environmental Science I signed up to take AP Environmental Science this year because I was more interested in taking it than expanding on solely biology or chemistry. This course includes several different fields of study which is why I thought it would be very interesting and I would learn about several subjects compared to just one. Before completing any work for this course, my definition of environmental science would have been, the study of elements of the environment such as climate, soil, and water. I also would have thought that the term environmentalism meant simply protecting the environment. The difference between environmental science and environmentalism is that environmental science is the study of the environment which runs more tests and experiments Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Environmental Protection Agency Essay 1)When was the environmental protection agency (EPA) formed? –1970 What events prompted its formation? –The U.S. was rocked by a series of waste land toxic materials, the earth's automatic, self–cleansing, life support systems became increasingly threatened and consequently people from all walks of life and from every part of the political spectrum were expressing their anxieties on the streets and this happened to b the largest public American demonstration ever seen in America. Hence prompting President Richard Nixon transmitted Reorganization Plan No. 3 to the United States Congress by executive order, creating the EPA as a single, independent agency from a number of smaller arms of different federal agencies. 2)How did...show more content... –The citizen suit provision of the Clean Water Actis an important tool to protect and improve rivers, creeks, streams, and wetlands especially as state agencies may not have the resources to conduct regular water quality monitoring on every water body. Citizen involvement in monitoring and reporting pollution problems is key to watershed protection; hereby helping the government enforce the laws. 4)The expression "canary in the coal mine" means an early warning of danger. (Coal miners would carry canaries or small animals with them into mines to detect deadly but odorless and tasteless methane gas.) a)To what does the expression "canary in the coal mine' apply in poisoned waters? I will say that as much as the expression "Canary in the coal mine" implies an early warning of danger in mines so does it in water too. In this case the fish directly helps us know the extent to which our ecological sphere is damaged, and helps humans to take the necessary precautions to save the environment. 5)Twenty million Americans took to the streets for the first earth day in 1970 as a result of pollution they could see an smell: the Cuyahoga river in Cleveland burned, with flames that towered eight stories high; the 1969 oil spill in Santa Barbara closed virtually all the beaches in southern California; people had declared Lake Erie dead. a)How according to the film, have both pollution and people's reaction to Earth day

  • 4. Caring About Our Environment Essay Caring About Our Environment Improving and maintaining the earth's environment is becoming a more important task every day of our lives. Due to ignorance and frequent carelessness, this important task is quickly becoming a critical one. For this reason, I took it upon myself to construct a strategic plan to enlighten my peers to the problems of our environment. I did this in hopes that it would encourage everyone to act responsibly towards improving and maintaining the environment. With ongoing threats to the earth's water supply, atmosphere, and surface, I found it necessary to devise a method of environmental enlightenment. I plan to apply this method at my place of academic study, The University. If supported by the faculty...show more content... I recently discovered that one cheeseburger takes more than 700 gallons of water to produce (includes water consumed by cows, water used to irrigate the cornfields that feed the cows, and the water used to produce the beef and cheese). When considering the millions of cheeseburgers that are consumed worldwide everyday, it is evident that the earth's water supply is declining rapidly. Due to air pollution, the ozone layer is also being consumed at an extreme rate. Its arch nemesis is the various fumes from cars and factories. Scientists estimate that each 1% drop in ozone levels causes a 3 to 6% rise in skin cancer cases. Since the ozone layer prevents most ultraviolet and other high–energy radiation from penetrating to the earth's surface, this is a crisis that has to be rectified. The ozone's depletion has dropped to a level so thin that if we brought it down to Earth, it would only be as deep as the thickness of three dimes. The only positive outlook concerning this matter is that the ozone has the ability to reconstruct itself when UV–C rays break the bond of O2. Single oxygen atoms combine with O2 to form ozone (UV–B rays limit this process still yet). This evidence shows that the world is in dire need of an environmental resurrection. In order for this to occur and be successful, it would require an effort by every individual nation of our world. My resolution requires that The University of South Carolina Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. The Protection Of Environmental Quality Introduction Protection of environmental quality is a globally growing concern, and there has been an increasing use of economic instruments in the environment protection policies, such as tradable permits or pollution charges, to reduce environmental harm by harnessing economic incentives to encourage the industries. In New South Wales, the Environment Protection Authority ("EPA") introduced the load–based licensing ("LBL") scheme as a new approach of environment protection licence under the Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997 (NSW) ("POEO Act") and the Protection of the Environment Operations (General) Regulations 2009 (NSW). Subsequently, a broader range of pollution issues is now embraced under the LBL system by...show more content... In the past, a fixed fee was charged to the industries, and it was difficult to find a relationship between pollutant discharges and the licence fee. Inequity in licence fees was resulted therefrom, and there was very little incentive available for licence holders. Consequently, this approach was regarded as an unpleasant cost, and the earnest licence holders had to be economically disadvantaged by the neglected licensing system. Furthermore, ineffective system in environment protection licence failed to reduce emissions and irreversible impacts on the environment were perceived. To overcome those issues stated above, the EPA of New South Wales updated the POEO Act, and as a result, legislations including the Waste Minimisation and Management Act 1995 (NSW), were repealed and incorporated into the POEO Act. Under the Chapter 3 of the POEO Act and the Protection of the Environment Operations (General) Regulation 2009 (NSW) , LBL is implemented as a new method of charging a licensing fee based on the amounts of the pollution emission resulted from the licensed activities. In accordance to the LBL scheme, licence holders are charged an annual licence fee which consists of the administrative fee and the load–based fee. The load–based fee depends on the amounts of the pollutant discharged, and the administration fee is payable in each reporting period. Unlike the traditional approach, the LBL enhances Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Environmental Stewardship And The Environment The environment is a reflection of the individuals that occupy it. The quality of the environment is the result of the choices and actions that have been made by the occupants. It is the population 's responsibility to validate that the activities that are taking place are environmentally responsible and not harmful to its people. It is extremely important to sustain the environment and its natural resources for the future generations. Therefore, environmental stewardship is the responsible use and protection of the natural resources and environment through conservation, ecological, recycling, regeneration, and restoration practices. There are practices that are put into place to increase the environmental stewardship, which include the efficiency of using resources, reducing the waste, and providing an efficient and a healthy work environment. However, the three most important concepts are the efficiency, ecologically, and healthy. Efficiency is using the minimum required resources while producing the minimum amount of waste. Ecologically refers to recycled and non–toxic products and healthy refers to generating the least amount of noise, visual, and physical pollution. It is essential to implement an environmental stewardship regime; there are many benefits of these implementations such as economic benefits, human health benefits, and conservation and protection of the environment itself. • 7. Importance Of Protecting The Environment Essay Our environment undoubtedly has many things we can use to benefit our everyday lives. Even if our environment is not in tip–top shape, we need to start taking care of it better. If we don't many things will happen. These things include plants dying, animals going extinct, air becoming polluted, coral reefs dying, and water rapidly coming contaminated. Another problem our environment has to face, overcome, or adapt too is Global Warming. Global Warming has and will continue to impact our environment worldwide if we do not begin taking immediate action and do something to protect our environment. Protecting our environment is indeed the first action that should be taken. Protecting the environment should take place locally and globally in my opinion. There are many things that our local environment could do that would have have a tremendous impact on our environment that genuinely would not take oodles of effort. A few of these could be as easy as recycling soda cans, old school or work papers, and glass bottles and taking them to a local recycling center. When you recycle you are reusing things or making them into new things. Two more examples would be hosting or participating in a highway clean up, or planting a community garden at a park. Globally, humans are responsible for Greenhouse Gasses, pollution, and fossil fuel shortages. Globally, if everyone pitched in just a little bit, greenhouse gas emissions could go down drastically. The way we could cut these emissions Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. The Problem Of Environmental Protection Essay Theodore Roosevelt had once said, "The nation behaves well if it treats the natural resources as assets which it must turn over to the next generation increased, and not impaired in value". These words have resonated since and have been an example as to why it is our duty as inhabitants of this planet to provide protection to the ever so fragile environment. But what is Environmental protection exactly? Well it is one of the most important, and expensive problems businesses and society are facing today. Why you may ask? Since the industrial age all the countries around the world have been burning an assortment of fuel to power factories, vehicles, heat homes, and even to cook with and when these fuels are burned they emit carbon dioxide and various other chemicals which over time add up and take a very long time to breakdown. As a result they trap heat from the sun in the earth's atmosphere raising the global temperature and causing a domino effect on the environment. Likewise companies produce hazardous waste and dump them illegally in waters which kills vast amounts of marine life. Although laws are in place to protect the planet, inventions are slowly being created to provide alternative sources of energy and agencies already exist to protect the environment. However it is our duty as people in a society to act on our own by demanding for our government to show greater concern for the environment by reforming environmental protection laws with stricter guide lines, Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Broad Topic: Environmental Protection/Nature Conservation Narrow topic: Animal protection Research Question: What are some of the measures that need to be implemented by the Jamaican Government to protect endangered animal species? Introduction: "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be measured by the way its animals are treated." This proclamation that is attributed to the great Mahatma Gandhi has frighteningly opposed the graphic and upsetting images of slaughtered, abused and neglected animals that are so often seen in newspapers and on social media. All animal life is important and worth protecting because they help to maintain an equilibrium in the ecosystem. II.Secondly, teaching animal welfare in schools should be employed as the primary tool to execute protection of endangered animals in our Jamaican society; since not everyone is aware that some animals are at risk of extinction. A.Teaching animal welfare will educate the active and passive abusers about animal protection so that they can implement better measures to protect endangered species. B.According to Phillips (2009) teaching animal welfare in schools will result in an improvement in animal wellbeing. Thus, the use of education is an effective avenue to achieve an improvement in the treatment and care of endangered Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 11. Epa's Role In Protecting The Environment The earth supplies humanity with a plethora of natural resources, but what has mankind done with these gifts? The modern world is a marvel of carefully constructed skyscrapers, painstakingly pieced together palaces, and brilliantly fabricated bridges. The United States has eliminated diseases that used to plague entire nations, constructed hypersonic jets, and made advancements in technology only dreamed about by past generations. However, society's beautiful and convenient design has a cost. Habitat loss has forced thousands of species of animals to become endangered or extinct. The improper disposal of toxic wastes has made a multitude of rivers and lakes unfit for sustaining life. The use of pesticides has ill–effects on not only the environment and the wildlife, but on people, too. However, the United States has made great strides in preserving the environment, and fixing the damage done. This essay will explore environmental protection in regards to organizations and legislation. One organization contributing to the conservation of the environment is the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The EPA works nationally to assure the protection of the environment through a variety of methods. For instance, the EPA enforces environmental laws and regulations. According to the organization's website: EPA works with its federal, state and tribal regulatory partners through a comprehensive Clean Water Act compliance monitoring program to protect human health and the Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 16. The Importance Of Environmental Protection Introduction According to Merriam–Webster dictionary, sustainability is defined as "of, relating to, or being a method of harvesting or using a resource so that the resource is not depleted or permanently damaged" (Merriam–Webster, 2017). The Federal Government regulates the specific use and protection of natural resources through the Environmental Protection Agency (henceforth, EPA). In 1962 Rachel Carson published a book called "Silent Spring" which popularized the idea of environmental protection (EPA History, 2017). The momentum for protection of the environment grew until, in 1970, President Richard Nixon established the EPA (EPA History, 2017). The EPA bases their sustainability efforts on the idea that, "everything that we need for our survival and well–being depends, either directly or indirectly, on our natural environment. To pursue sustainability is to create and maintain the conditions under which humans and nature can exist in productive harmony to support present and future generations." (Learn About Sustainability, 2016). The stated mission of the EPA is to ensure Americans are protected from health and environmental risks, national policies are based on available scientific data, environmental laws are enforced fairly, environmental protection is a consideration during the creation of United States foreign and domestic policies, environmental information provided to Americans is accurate, and ensuring that the United States is a world leader in environmental Get more content on HelpWriting.net

In 1997 President William J. Clinton issued (CLINTON, 1997). The EO was designed to protection children from environmental health and safety risks. Multiple reasons support the idea that kids are more likely to come in contact with environmental health hazards. To educate the populous on such matters the EPA formed the (TEACH) website. The goal of the TEACH project is to complement existing children's health resources. TEACH does not provide an evaluation or critique the validity of the relevant scientific studies; nor does TEACH derive toxicity values. Instead, the goal of TEACH is to summarize, compile, and organize information obtained from numerous resources into one online resource. TEACH is designed to support numerous efforts throughout the country that target the protection of children's health (EPA, 2009). Molds can be found roughly everywhere on the planet as long as the two most basic life requirements are available, moisture and oxygen. • 18. Should we keep the Environmental Protection Agency? The EPA is the environmental protection agency and they deal with keeping the environment clean and they enforce the laws to keep it clean. The agency was put together by President Richard Nixon on December 2, 1970. He put them together to enforce the fines, sanctions and other measures. Their headquarters is in Washington D.C.The Environmental Protection Agency always has people wondering where they get the money, what they will change, and how they help the world. Bill Clinton elected the head of the environmental protection agency when he was elected and he chose Florida's secretary of environmental regulations. To start off, President Bill Clinton elected Carol Browner to run the environmental protection agency (Carol M. Browner 50). Carol Browner sticks up to what she feels is important for today's society. To continue, Browner won her role by getting her respect gained in 2 cases as Florida's secretary of environmental regulations (Carol M. Browner 50). Browner was standing her ground when the federal government went after Florida to restore the everglades. Lastly, Roosevelt and Pinchot were focused on the wise and efficient use of natural resources (Geary 226). Roosevelt and Pinchot did whatever they needed to get more information on natural resources. Bill Clinton chose Carol M. Browner because he knew that she would do her best in this position and with all of her experience for this position and also Roosevelt wanted to make the environment better for today's society and also for all of the societies to still come. The Environmental Protective Agency works hard to make the environment better and they also work hard to get enough money to fund it. According to multiple reports President Lyndon Johnson, "took an interest in preservationist issues" (Girard 100). President Johnson was interested in the Environmental Protection Agency and wanted to do whatever it was to be a part of it. This semester I felt privileged to be able to listen to and observe a group of individuals who shared a common passion that they all felt strongly towards; the environment. Human health is vulnerable to disturbances in the ecosystem which was noted through Myeengun's attempts to promote the devastating impact that could happen if Line 9 were to burst. To see an individual so inspired about an issue and take it to court and fight for justice for his community and their surrounding environment engaged my knowledge of the environment greatly. It engaged my learning and how looking after environmental issues that pertain to our community has the ability to bring individuals together and conduct forms of resistance that can be transferred through future generations (Henry, 2016, Lecture). As such, there is a responsibility on governments to make available information on the environment and the current risks faced to the citizens. The Rio Declaration states that "states shall facilitate and encourage public awareness and participation by making information widely available" . This includes educating local communities as to the environmental risks they specifically face and their sources. It also means providing an adequate mechanism for governmental bodies to provide this information.
