A mandala , originally seen it tibet , is a circular picture that is created to show something of
meaning to a person or a group of people. The mandala is also used to show religious beliefs,
which was its original purpose in the fourth century. The mandalas circular shape can also have
meaning as well as the content, or symbols, that are inside of it. The circular shape can symbolize
the circle of life or even the lack of a beginning or end that the circle has, but everyone has a different
meaning to the circular shape and its meaning depends on the creater. The mandalas center picture is
very important to the creator because it shows the most important thing to them in life, while the
perimeter of the mandala circle is symbols that represent...show more content...
I did this because I have always loved the city and I would love to move to one some day, and I
added the different times of day because I love to watch the sun rise or set and see the stars and
planets at night. On the left of my mandala I have a line of music because I love listening to
music all the time, and next to that are five polaroids and that is because I love to take pictures to
show people how beautiful the Earth is. I have also added a drawing of the earth because I think
it is important to remember that there is so much to do on earth and so many places to go so if
you want to do something do it there is nothing holding you back. It also could mean that there
are places that need your help and to help as much as you can even if it is a little it still helps
someone. Lastly I have a sunflower with a baseball bat as the steam with a camera dangling from
one of the leafs. The sunflower is to show where my grandma lived, when she was little she had
planted sunflowers in her backyard which she did until she moved to PA with my grandfather. I
added the bat because I love to play softball and also love to watch baseball

Mandala is one of my experiences of patterns and sequences that I have enjoyed learning about in
these several days. The more I learn and understand how everything is created by the
fundamentals of art the more I become appreciative our Creative God. Mandala is a name that I
have not heard of before. When Professor Lori gave me a chance to research Mandala, I was in
awe; because Professor Lori gave me something that I was interested in, the art of sequence and
pattern. I became even more appreciative because my instructor was sensitive to my interest, the
detail of art. I love beautiful details in the art. From our text, Art and the Bible, Schaeffer
expounds very well on the detail of God's beauty of Solomon's temple. "The temple was to be
filled with art work, "And he [Solomon] garnished [covered] the house with precious stones for
beauty: The temple covered with precious stones for beauty" (Schaeffer, F. A. 2006, p. 26). God
wanted His beauty to be in detail so that it can give the qualities of pleasure to the soul of the senses
to enjoy. His beauty reminds me of the beauty and the details that are in the sequence and the pattern
of the Mandala, the Fibonacci and the Fractal....show more content...
When following the instructions to make a Mandala, it was fascinating because you must start
with a middle point from nothing to create something that is beautiful in the circular in a pattern
of the sequence. From the source to finished I found myself in what I use to do years ago in the
imagination of creating. I could see the images of patterns as I move forward in designing.
Creating this Mandala gave me the opportunity and the time to myself to visualize the beautiful
details that came by being creative. Imagination is what I was able to do when I use to do banners,
floral arrangements and other things that I loved to do. A chance to capture the gift that God has
given me was awesome and essential for me to

E D U C AT I O N A L I N N O VAT I O N Creative Learning: The Mandala as Teaching Exercise
Margaret Cole Marshall, MS, APRN, BC ABSTRACT Faculty committed to undergraduate
education have discovered the need to address teaching strategies that focus on the new generation of
students. In teaching an undergraduate course on Nursing the Client with a Mental Illness, the
affective domain of learning is used to develop interpersonal competence, self–awareness, and
self–reflection. The teaching technique used is an experiential exercise that asks students to create
group mandalas using art materials on circular pieces of butcher–block paper. The mandala concept
is derived from the Buddhist tradition and means "circle" or "center" in...show more content...
Groups are perhaps the most potent media through which to develop self–awareness (Burnard, 1986).
The undergraduate programs at the 517 November 2003, Vol. 42, No. 11 EDUCATIONAL
INNOVATION author's institution emphasize critical thinking (i.e., reflective and reasonable
thinking directed toward adequate and appropriate decision making) (Valiga & Bruderle, 1997).
Faculty determined that strategies that promote and guide students in critical thinking include: A
questioning attitude of openness. Evaluation of one's own thinking. Faculty considered strategies
that would couple critical thinking strategies with focused, group–process strategies. Both would
strengthen students' affective learning domains and be reinforced in the clinical applications for
psychiatric mental health concepts. Therefore, faculty implemented and evaluated the mandala
teaching strategy. mandala "can be used as a valid path in its own right, as a vehicle to self
discovery" (Fincher, 1991, p. 24). "When we create a mandala, we make a [group] symbol that
reveals who we are at the moment" (Tucci, 1961, p. 177), and Cornell (1994) sees the mandala as a
reflection of our place in life, showing us our own inner processes. The Mandala Process To achieve
the course objectives of self–awareness, critical thinking, and group process, faculty used the
creation of mandalas as a teaching

Mandala Essay There are many ways to convey who I am and what is important to me, one such
way are symbols in a mandala. What I chose for my mandala were symbols that represented as
strength, independence, friendship, family, and success. These consist of my personality, who is
important to me, and what is important to myself in the future. One of the symbols that represents
me can be symbolized as the Lotus Flower. I put it in the center of the mandala, because it is the
symbol that mainly represents me. For me it symbolizes strength. I did not choose this based on
physical strength, but more on emotional strength. I need this strength for when something bad
happens, I can pull through the hardship. It is also based on what I can handle...show more content...
Without the strength that I have to have, I would give in and not have very good grades. This
would probably occur because stress can get the best of me occuasualy. Another symbol that I
choose was the X. In certain situations it means freedom and independence. I choose this symbol
because I am a very independent person. If I have a problem, then I like to solve it on my own. In
spite of the last symbol, I chose the symbol of friendship. This kind of contradicts my last symbol,
but I can be social and independant.Another symbol I chose was the two arrows crossing over each
other. This symbolizes friendship. My friends are an immense part of me. What this represents in
my life is how my friends support and help me. They can be my emotional support, and are
always there when I need them. Even I cannot me independently strong forever. My close
relations help me rejuvenate my strength by cheering me up and helping me. The next symbol is
a triangular symbol. It is a Celtic symbol for family. My family is my biggest support system.
They are the reason why I am here today. They are also a main part of my life so I represent that
through symbols. My next and final symbol in my mandala to represent me is the upside down
