• Never give out personal information such as name, address or
telephone number.
• Neversend a person a picture of yourself without getting

Subject Line - Always include your last name and a brief explanation of the email topic.
Emails without subjects are often filtered into the junk box.
Be Clear - Choose your words wisely and clearly explain the reason for your email.
Emotions - Don't send an email if you are upset, take a cooling off period and re-read
before pushing send. Never use all capitals as it displays anger. An occasional emoticon
or acronym is acceptable depending on the context of the email, as long as they are
not overused.
Spelling Counts - Words should be spelled correctly. Academic settings require
academic language. When in doubt look it up in a dictionary.
