A READING FROM THE BOOK OF JOEL 2: 21-27
3. Read by Dr. Neville Reid
Do not fear, O soil; be glad and rejoice, for the Lord has done
great things! Do not fear, you animals of the field, for the
pastures of the wilderness are green; the tree bears its fruit, the
fig tree and vine give their full yield. O children of Zion, be
glad and rejoice in the Lord your God; for he has given the early
rain for your vindication, he has poured down for you abundant
rain, the early and the later rain, as before. The threshing floors
shall be full of grain, the vats shall overflow with wine and oil.
I will repay you for the years that the swarming locust has
eaten, the hopper, the destroyer, and the cutter, my great army,
which I sent against you. You shall eat in plenty and be
satisfied, and praise the name of the Lord your God, who has
dealt wondrously with you. And my people shall never again be
put to shame. You shall know that I am in the midst of Israel,
and that I, the Lord, am your God and there is no other. And my
people shall never again be put to shame.
Hear what the Spirit is saying to God’s People:
Thanks be to God.
PSALM 26 (sung)
Give judgment for me O LORD
for I have lived with in-teg-ri-ty; *
I have trusted in the Lord and have not falt-ered.
Test me O LORD and try me; *
For your love is before my eyes; *
I have walked faith-full-y with you.
I have not sat with the worth-less, *
nor do I consort with the de-ceit-ful.
I have hated the company of e-vil-do-ers; *
I will not sit down with the wick-ed.
4. I will wash my hands in innocence O LORD, *
that I may go in procession round your al-tar,
Singing aloud a song of thanks-gi-ving *
and recounting all your won-der-ful deeds.
LORD I love the house in which you dwell *
and the place where your glo-ry a-bides.
Do not sweep me away with sin-ners, *
nor my life with those who thirst for blood,
Whose hands are full of e-vil plots, *
and their right hand full of bribes.
As for me, I will live with in-teg-ri-ty; *
redeem me O LORD and have pi-ty on me.
My foot stands on le-vel ground; *
in the full assembly I will bless the LORD.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son
and to the Ho-ly Spi-rit.
As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be:
world with-out end A-men.
A READING FROM THE FIRST LETTER OF PAUL TO
TIMOTHY 2: 1-7 read by Jenny Reid
First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers,
intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone, for
kings and all who are in high positions, so that we may lead a
quiet and peaceable life in all Godliness and dignity. This is
right and is acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour, who
desires everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of
the truth. For there is one God; there is also one mediator
between God and humankind, Christ Jesus, himself human, who
gave himself a ransom for all—this was attested at the right
time. For this I was appointed a herald and an apostle (I am
telling the truth, I am not lying), a teacher of the Gentiles in
faith and truth.
5. Hear what the Spirit is saying to God’s People:
Thanks be to God.
Gospel Acclamation
Cantor: Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!
All: Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!
Cantor: The heavens declare the Glory of God,
and the firmament shows his handiwork.
All: Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!
Gospeller: The Lord be with you.
All: And with thy spirit.
Gospeller: The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ
according to Matthew 6: 25-33.
All: Glory be to thee, O Lord.
Jesus said, “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life,
what you will eat or what you will drink, or about your body,
what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body
more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air; they neither
sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly
Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And
can any of you by worrying add a single hour to your span of
life? And why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies
of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell
you, even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of
these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive
today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much
more clothe you—you of little faith? Therefore do not worry,
saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What
will we wear?’ For it is the Gentiles who strive for all these
things; and indeed your heavenly Father knows that you need
all these things. But strive first for the kingdom of God and his
righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

Music Notes:
Considered by many to be his masterpiece, The Creation was
composed by Franz Josef Haydn (1732-1809) over a 2-year
period beginning in 1796. It’s an oratorio in three parts that
depicts and celebrates the creation of the world as described in
the Book of Genesis and in “Paradise Lost” (John Milton). The
chorus “Achieved is the glorious work” is an acknowledgement
that, on the sixth day, God completed his work.
Siegfried Karg-Elert (1877-1933) was a German composer of
considerable fame in the early twentieth century, best known for
10. his compositions for organ. Among his many compositions are
66 ‘chorale improvisations’, or preludes on hymn tunes. Born
in Denmark, Karg-Elert moved to Germany as a child and spent
all of his life there, composing and teaching. Although his
music was greatly admired in the UK and USA, it was generally
ignored in his adopted country.
“REMEMBERING”
The choir is planning a special Remembrance Day concert on
Sunday 11 November at 4 p.m. It will feature our choir and
lead singers with special guest Rob Crabtree, a Juno-nominated
bagpiper, all performing a variety of both sacred and secular
music (Scottish, Welsh, English and Canadian) that is associated
with both World Wars - and maybe a sing-along or two! A
programme is posted on various bulletin boards around the
church. It would be a wonderful thing to fill the church for this
concert, so please tell your friends and relatives. Advance
tickets at $8 ($10 at the door) are now available from choir
members and the church office. The money raised will be used
to support the Organ Restoration Fund.
