telephone exchange was Hungarian TivadarPuskás in 1877 while he was working for Thomas EdisonGeorge W. Coy designed and built the first commercial telephone exchange which opened in New Haven, Connecticut in January, 1878
Strowger's undertaking business was losing clients to a competitor whose telephone-operator wife was intercepting and redirecting everyone who called Strowger - he first conceived his invention in 1888, and patented the automatic telephone exchange in 1891.On March 10, 1891, Almon Brown Strowger, an undertaker in Kansas City, Missouri, patented the stepping switch, a device which led to the automation of telephone circuit switching.
It was short war, but US government was in need to fill up budged holes and looked in new opportunity to collect..They introduced telecom tax – targeting about 200,000 VERY WELTHY users ….War ended quickly, but this tax still in books until today…. Like a phone system…
Yes, even today , major landline phone system are build accordingly to the same principles as 100 years ago….In mid 70, someone with clear hope of soon to be innovation in phone system, invented a term Plain Old Telephone System to describe major phone architecture…But it still a core of TODAY phone services , despite introduction of VoIP, mobile and so on…And nessesityto be backward compatible with POTS , keep all industry from rapid innovation…
