I believe that we have all performed a great teamwork in raising
awareness and creating new set of rules to match this new life
during this pandemic, yet I still need to stress the importance of
several matters, most likely: frequent handwashing, keeping the
masks on in the office area, as well making sure to do some
physical excercises at home.
At this moment, being healthy is not what is needed—it is what
is important for all of us.
This is the time when our hard work, our professionalism,
our teamwork are being put to question—and the core to
the answers is simply: taking care of ourselves, for the sake of
others. We cannot work hard if we are unwell. We cannot be
professional if we are sick. We cannot do our team a favor if we
are not healthy.
Take a good care of our health.
I sincerely wish that my message can be heard loud and clear. It
is my only hope that we, the big family of KORINDO Group, shall
always be able to do what is best for ourselves and the company.
I am also praying for the pandemic to end as soon as possible, so
the world can have a proper healing from this devastating issue.
May the rest of the months of 2021 enlight the path to our

Dearest family of KORINDO Group,
Time flies so fast and now we have already passed the first
months of 2021. Although the year has changed, we still need to
accept the fact that the Coronavirus Covid-19 does still exist
among us. And to this date, despite the hard work of all involved,
there still isn’t any sure prediction of when the virus will end.
Since the first Covid-19 case recorded in Indonesia in March
2020, KORINDO Group and all of its branches have done
everything within our capabilities to help people and the
government fight this pandemic. We realize that this is most
likely an impossible matter to deal without a thorough teamwork
from all of us. It is also to our honor that we have contributed
relentlessly for the country for the past year, and rest assured
that we shall always continue this contribution for as long as
needed.
None of the humanitarian works provided by the KORINDO
Group and all its branches has once escaped my knowledge, and
I am honored to be able to call these wonderful people my
family.
However, this is a hard time for all of us.
I would like to remind all of us that this pandemic is still occurring
and that none of us is an exception to take a very good care of
ourselves and others. We need to be mindful of our health and
hygiene, and that is not only for the benefits of ourselves, but
also other people.
In this occasion, I want to raise our awareness concerning this
matter of the prevention of Covid-19. This is a serious situation
that is happening not only in our country, but also all over the
world. True that we should not be paranoid over the virus, but it
is also our duty to be aware and mindful of things we tend to
overlook in the past.

Message from Management

Greetings Readers of One Step Ahead,
We have together passed the year of 2020. The coronavirus (Covid-19) which spread since the end
of 2019 in China and ‘approached’ Indonesia in March 2020 has made last year a difficult moment
for all of us.
Covid-19 has claimed a large number of victims, causing the governments all over the world to
agree in restricting social and economic activities. Indonesia is no exception. The government
enforced regional quarantine, implemented Working from Home (WFH) policy, online schooling,
and various other things.
The impact was strongly felt by the Indonesian people, especially with the pressure on the
economy. Not to mention the natural disasters that hit the country one after another.
Seeing these numerous adversities, Korindo Group were moved to offer help. A real and
tremendous concern was shown by this private business entity in the country. Donations were
provided to the field of education, economy, and infrastructure which were distributed to various
regions.
The presence of Covid-19 also forced many changes in people’s lives. This change is not a choice,
but something that must be implemented so we would be able to adapt in the amid pandemic
disruption. Korindo Group also tried to keep up with the flow of changes which will be shown in
this 7th edition magazine. Health protocols that are increasingly strict are being enforced in each
subsidiary company, accompanied with educational activities to provide an in-depth understanding
of Covid-19 to employees.
Activities that were previously held face-to-face must also change their formats. Human resources
(HR) development training is held with the new normal policy which prioritize the use of
technology. This adjustment illustrates the company’s efforts to continue to innovate during the
current limitations.
To close our foreword, the Editorial team is asking the entire big family of Korindo Group to stand
together during the pandemic. Following the health protocols is a must for the sake of everyone.
New determination and innovation need to carried out continously to bring a change toward good.
We hope that what we present in the 7th Edition of 2021 of this One Steap Ahead Magazine can

JAKARTA – The management of Korindo
Group and its subsidiaries across Indonesia
have been consistently implementing the
prevention of the spread of coronavirus
(Covid-19). This includes in each
company’s internal environment.
In his new year’s remarks, Senior Vice
Chairman of Korindo Group Robert Seung
emphasized on the importance of health
protocols in order to prevent the spread of
the Covid-19 virus. Discipline and
consistency are the keys to protecting all
parties.
"Protecting ourselves from infection is as
important as protecting our colleagues and
the Indonesian people. Behaviour in
preventing transmission in the work
environment must be applied to each of
us," he said.
Various methods are used to prevent the
spread of the virus while providing a sense
of security and comfort to all employees
in supporting their performance
productivity. For instance, PT Kenertec
Power System (KPS), which has been on
alert and regularly conducting health
campaign directly to its employees since
the pandemic hit Indonesia in March
2020.
In addition to providing education, KPS
also immediately started using a thermal
scanner to all employees upon entering
the work area. It is hoped that this early
precaution will protect workers as well as
the surrounding community. Individual
health support facilities were also given
attention. Masks and antiseptic liquidsare
given to the community as part of efforts
to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
Multivitamins were also provided for all
employees to maintain immunity and
prevent sickness.
dHand washing stations are also provided
at several locationsat the company, so
there is no doubt employees can get
access to them easily.
As one of the ultimate preventive
activities, PT KPS regularly sterilizes the
environment. At least one to two times a
week, a disinfection is carried out in the
company lobby and other work areas to
keep the environment clean.
A regular cleaning is also carried out by PT
Bimaruna Jaya (BRJ). The company, which
its headquarters located in Cakung, North
Jakarta, performs weekly cleaning every
Friday involving representatives from all
divisions. Cleaning activities are also
carried out daily by each employee, but on
a smaller scale, 15 minutes before starting
work.

Just like other Korindo Group’s
subsidiaries, PT BRJ also provides hand
washing stations and hand sanitizers in all
areas or divisions. These facilities can be
used at any time by employees, as well as
guests.
Meanwhile, PT Korindo Heavy Industry
(KHI) also carries out Covid-19 prevention
activities since the beginning. Several steps
taken were mainly related to socialization
program to employees, such as putting up
posters and banners about warnings and
prevention against coronavirus.
Every employee who comes to work must
go through body temperature check to
ensure their physical condition. If there is
an employee with a body temperature
above 37 degrees Celsius, he/she is not
allowed to work and is given permission to
seek treatment at a hospital health facility
in accordance with the BPJS Health
membership they have.
PT KHI is also making effortsin compliance
with the protocol recommended by the
government to break the chain of
coronavirus spread, namely by maintaining
distance. This effort is implemented by
changing the layout of the employee
workplace in each section.
Crowd restrictions are also implemented
on vehicles. Each company car can only be
used for a maximum of three passengers.
Warnings to every employee who does not
wear a mask are also regularly carried out.
PT KHI also provides vitamin supplements
to employees every week. Hand washing
stations with running water and soap, as
well as hand sanitizers are placed at each
entrance, toilet and production area.
Similar facilities are also provided by PT
Gelora Mandiri Membangun (GMM). At
one location of the company’s work area,
Camp Kabob, Gane Dalam Village, South
Halmahera, a hand washing station
equipped with soap was built.
The facilities were built at several
locations, namely division I to III and
logistic warehouses. The existence of
these hand washing stations is expected
to increase public awareness of the
importance of keeping their hands clean
before and after carrying out work.
PT GMM also provides masks to
employees across departments and
divisions. This assistance is provided to
make it easier for workers to implement
health protocols in order to prevent the
spread of coronavirus in the company
environment. Apart from internal area of
the company or factory area, the company
also gives attention to worship places. In
mid-June 2020, PT GMM carried out
disinfection at An-Nur Mosque as a
measure to prevent the spread of
coronavirus in worship places.
To maximize the prevention efforts, PT
GMM evenregularlycarries out body
temperature check on all crew members
upon arriving at the company-owned
dockused for loading and unloading

JAKARTA – The emergence coronavirus
(Covid-19) has shocked all corners of the
world and given a significant impact on all
aspects of human life. From social,
economic, to educational activities being
limited, and even stopped. Indonesia is no
exception. Since March 2020, Covid-19 has
“approached” and seeped into every
corner of the cities and rural areas in the
country.
The need for staple foods, health supplies
such as masks and disinfectants has
become very high. However, not all people
can have easy access to them. In
particular,those who live in the rural areas
are still having difficulties in getting their
hands on these current necessities.
This is the issue that became a concern for
Korindo Group since 2020 to date. The
multinational company that operates in
Indonesia is taking one step forward:
providing massive donation to the people
through its subsidiaries that area spread
across various regions.
“This is what we can contribute from
Korindo Group to Indonesia,” said Senior
Vice Chairman of Korindo Group, Robert
Seung.
The donation was distributed to many
locations, from Java Island to the eastern
part of Indonesia. For instance, the Natai
Peramuan branch of PT Korintiga Hutani
(PT KTH) that donated a number of health
supplies in August 2020. The donation was
especially meant for the residents living
near the company’s operational area.
The items provided include thermal gun
(body temperature checking device),
masks, hand sanitizers, and hand washing
soaps. A number of sinks were also built to
facilitate people in washing their hands
clean, so the prevention of the coronavirus
can be more effective.
Previously, on April 2020, KTH has already
provided a donation of staple foods to the
Government of Umpang Village, West
Kotawaringin.
The staple foods include 100 sacks of rice
that each came in 5 kg package and 50
boxes of instant noodles.
Health supplies were also part of the
donation from KTH. The company donated
a box of medical gloves and four bottles of
500 ml liquid disinfectants to the
community. This donation was
immediately distributed by the local
government to the deserving people after
a data collection process.
A donation was also provided to the
community in Jakarta, where the Korindo
Group headquarters is located. To the
community in Pancoran, South Jakarta, to
be exact, Korindo Foundation donated 2
thousands of cloth masks since April 2020.
PT Kenertec Power System (KPS) which is
located in Cilegon, Banten, also provided
assistance by spraying disinfectants in
residential houses around the factory. At
least 700 residential houses in Banten

Spraying Team (DST) for eight months,
from March to October 2020.
Not only houses, the DST members also
sterilized public spaces which are often
used as public gathering places. The
disinfection is hoped to be able to help
prevent the spread of coronavirus in the
area.
Meanwhile, PT Korindo Heavy Industry
(KHI) distributed masks and body
temperature checking device to Gembong
Village, Balaraja. This donation was
directly handed over to the village
government to be immediately
distributed to the those in need. Papua,
which is the operational area of a number
of Korindo Group’s subsidiaries, has not
certainly gone unnoticed. Robert Seung
handed over 120 thousands of cloth
masks to the community representatives
of Merauke Regency, Boven Digoel
Regency, and Mappi Regency.
The provision of masks was done
considering that Papua was one of the
regions experiencing shortage of the
medical equipment at that time. Robert
Seung hoped that the donation, which
was distributed gradually, can help the
local government in fighting Covid-19.
Other Korindo Group’s subsidiaries, PT
Papua Agro Lestari (PAL) also regularly
supplies groceries to the families living in
Ulilin District, Merauke. The donation
include 530 kg of rice and 27 boxes of
instant noodles, provided to 106
households.
PT Aspex Kumbong (AK) was no less quick
in providing donation. After donating two
units of disinfectant spraying tools, the
company once again donated staple
foods to more than 2,130 residents in
Dayeuh Village, Bojongkaso and
Parungdegdeg in Bogor Regency.
These staple food packages contained
cooking oil, rice, and sugar.
Not only health supplies, a support was
also given through the economic sector. PT
Tunas Sawa Erma (TSE), located in Boven
Digoel, gave assistance on the economy of
the local residents who have been
struggled during the pandemic by
providing a donation of fish seeds and
gardening tools. The donation was given to
the people in Getentiri Village who are still
living in Boven Digoel.
Through this donation, TSE hopes that the
community will be able to have more
varied sources of income so the basic
needs for them and their families can be

MERAUKE – PT Berkat Cipta Abadi (PT
BCA) handed over a plasma (smallholding)
plantation of 2,280 hectares to the Ziid
Kiwab Bersatu (ZKB) Cooperative on Friday
(14/2) in Selil Village, Ulilin District,
Merauke Regency. This is a realization of
the first and largest plasma plantation in
Papua, which develops 20% of the nucleus
plantation area and was officially handed
over to the cooperative in accordance
with the government regulations.
The smallholding plantation was handed
over in person by the director of PT BCA to
the management of ZKB Cooperative by
signing the smallholding plantation
handover documents and jointribbon
cutting. The handover was witnessed by
elements of the the Merauke Regency
Government, represented by the Industry,
Trade, Cooperative and SME Office
(Perindagkop UKM) of Merauke Regency,
Ulilin District Officials, the Head of Selil
Village, the Head of Subur Village and
Aiwat Village, Indigenous People
Organization (LMA) of Merauke, religious
leaders represented by Parish Pastor of
Muting Sony Walewawan PR, and clans as
customary rights owners and the company
management.

The realization of the opening of plasma
plantation did require a lot of time and
energy. Starting from socialization efforts,
plasma plantation allocation, and followed
with the preparation and formation of
community cooperative in 2016 and other
supporting efforts. The whole process
went quite smoothly, especially due to the
full support of the community and the
local government.
Naturally, the plasma plantation handover
was welcomed with joy by the community.
The community acknowledged that
thesmallholding plantation has indeed
become a necessity and they hope that in
the future it will be able to help improve
the community’s economy. “Thanks to PT
BCA and Korindo Group. We, the people,
are very happy because this plasma
plantation is a necessity and has been our
dream for a long time which is now finally
being realized,” said the Head II of ZKB
Cooperative, Yustinus Ukurop.

this oil palm plasma plantation also
received appreciation from the local

“For nearly 30 years, I have often seen them died of nothing.
I am sure this would not have happened if hospitals were
near,” I recall someone said to me upon entering Papua.
In response to this very big issue, these Papuans replied: “We have the
right to live a healthy life”.
Medical personnel from a clinic in Asiki Village, Papua took a trip to the
neighbouring village Kapoho to manage health services in mobile clinic activity.

In response to this very big issue, these
Papuans replied: “We have the right to live
a healthy life”.
My relationship with Papua began
in October 2018, upon the request
for consulting on hospital operations
established by the Korea International
Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and KORINDO
Group. The hospital is located in Asiki
village, Jair district, the Boven Digoel
Regency, Papua.
KOICA is a cooperative development
organization in Korea for realizing
sustainable development and
humanitarianism.
Meanwhile, the Korindo Group, with its
headquarters in Jakarta, first expanded to
Papua in 1993, after it had already
established its plywood, paper and
plantation businesses in the suburbs of
Kalimantan and Jakarta.
In the early days of its entry into Papua,
the company started its business based on
the plywood factories, creating a huge
number of jobs by operating oil farms as
well. Among its various business areas,
however, there were no healthcare
facilities.
Despite that, they established one hospital
there to improve the health and quality of
life of the residents of Asiki.
Now Korindo Group’s joint business with
the KOICA has ended, and the former will
fully manage its business operations and
the costs by 2025. From there, the local
government will bear the full operating
expenses from 2030 and by then, the local
government and Korindo Group will share
the operational expenses.
What made me wondered was, “Why
is Korindo Group so passionate about
running this hospital that brings no profit
and will be handed over to the local
government in the future?”
Firman Jayawijaya, a doctor from the Asiki
clinic answered my curiosity: “The purpose
of hospitals is not just to treat sick people
but also to act as a catalyst to protect
human rights and the lives of residents so
that they can stand on their own feet and
live their own lives”.
After 36 hours of travel from Seoul, South
Korea and in transit in Jakarta, I finally
entered Asiki clinic in the middle of the
forest and it was a modern building with
basic medical facilities.
This went against the stereotype that
companies will prioritize profits when they
get involved with local businesses.
Papua, a place geographically left behind,
is a place that needs a lot of help,
especially in the health and medical sector.
According to the statistics of Boven Digoel
Health Center in 2016, the infant mortality
rate that year was 115 per 1,000 people
and the neonatal mortality rate was 54 per
1,000 people during the same period,
ranking first and seventh in all Indonesian
provinces, respectively. The percentage of
pregnant women visiting hospitals also
stood at 22 percent, far below the
Indonesian average of 87 percent.
Papua has traditionally been more
dependent on traditional remedies than
on modern medicine. The nearest hospital
that can provide simple first aid in the Asiki
region is a two-hour walk, and the only
hospital that can accommodate severely ill
patients and patients in need of first aid is
more than six hours away.
For these various reasons, the situation in
Papua’s local health care system was not
good, and a company that had been
watching the situation for a long time
provided a solution to the problem.
More than simply building a hospital and
installing medical equipment to provide
services to the community, Korindo Group
is training local medical personnel,
including doctors, pharmacists and nurses,
to establish a framework for local health

The Asiki Clinic, furthermore, is a primary
care institution that focuses on changes in
awareness and behavior. It has a maternity
class for those who are reluctant to visit
hospitals to enable a healthy pregnancy
and childbirth through education on the
importance of prenatal and postnatal
examinations and safe childbirth.
It provides customized health education of
chronic diseases such as high blood
pressure and diabetes to high-risk
residents, and regularly visits the valley
villages and forest villages with no nearby
hospital to provide vaccinations,
medication, and other treatments.
The Indonesian government is trying to
provide integrated primary health care as
a part of its public health policy but it
seems to lack the finances and manpower
to cover geographically marginalized areas
like Asiki village.
The village was in the blind spot of primary
healthcare facilities; therefore, its access
to the healthcare services for local
residents was limited. Under these
circumstances, the Asiki clinic is
contributing to the local health care
system of local governments in a
complementary manner by providing
essential health and medical services to
underprivileged local residents under the
keynote of Indonesia’s public health policy.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the
Korindo Group has also donated masks
and protective clothing to the Papua
community, which lacks medical and
protective equipment, while asking them
to pray for the safety of residents and
medical staff.
Private companies are making such an
invisible move to the community for the
least human rights that Papua’s neighbors
should deserve.
Now I’m thinking again about the meaning
of primary healthcare, with the memories
of Papua embedded on my thoughts. In
the Declaration of Alma Ata in 1978, we
set our sights on achieving Health for All,
yet we are still endeavoring to achieve that
goal after more than 40 years. Many
countries, including the Indonesian
government, still seem far away from the
goal, despite their constant efforts to
achieve it.
But I believe that company like the Korindo
Group, albeit having a business line that
seemingly is unrelated to healthcare, has
developed clinic Aski to achieve this goal
and that the local unit’s efforts to learn
how to protect its health through this
place will one day help it to achieve this
goal of ensuring health of all.
Local government officials, clinic staff
members and local residents whom I met
to discuss the future operation of the
clinic were all calling the Asiki clinic as
“our clinic”.
Just as this clinic belongs to the Asiki
region, it will not be long before one
day, “health has truly become ours” with
various cooperation and efforts.
Even today, the Asiki clinic is still treating
patients, providing health education,
first aid to patients with severe diseases,
taking them to higher-level hospitals, and
checking on residents who are not visiting
the clinic.
Meanwhile, the Korindo Group, like the
patronizing eldest brother of the region
who always keeps a strong guard, will
always be involved in these efforts.
The clinic is an excellent example of

banana tree at the plantation site, Komnas
HAM representative of Papua received
three different statements of information,”

victim, but legally the status of the land was

The presence of S-Mart in Merauke, which
is a border area was warmly welcomed by
both the company employees and the
community in Nakias. “The presence of S-
Mart is very beneficial because the items
are sold with relatively cheaper prices,”
said one of the employees of PT Dongin
Prabhawa, Hendrik Resubun.
As an example, he mentioned that before
S-Mart existed, he had to spend
Rp40,000,-just to buy a toothpaste. But
now, he only spent Rp18,000,- to buy the
exact same product. “I’m very grateful
because the presence of this supermarket
has been very beneficial,” he added.
The people in Nakias Village also
welcomed the presence of S-Mart. As
stated by Benni Samkakai, a representative
of the indigenous community, who said,
“S-Mart is really helpful for the
community. The prices of the items are
affordable with trusted quality. We thank
the company for setting up a minimarket
between the two border districts of Mappi
and Boven Digoel, which are the border
areas of Indonesia-PNG.”
As we know, items sold in remote areas
tend to be more expensive compared to
the ones in urban areas. This is triggered
by the distance which highly affected the
distribution; long distance and locations
that are hard to reach have doubled the
shipping cost.
Luckily, this difficulty was not seen as an
obstacle by PT Dongin Prabhawa; with
capable logistic facilities, the company has
helped realize a fast and safe shipping. In
addition to a guaranteed quality, the
prices offered are not highly increased
either. So S-Mart can maintain the same
prices just as the ones from the

eucalyptus trees that were planted

On the occasion, Ade Yasin said that
the development of an urban forest in
Pakansari is an effort to fulfill green open
space in urban areas, while also functions
for water absorption and maintaining the

Builds Rubber
Plantation for
Community
Ambon, BKA – Through a creating
shared value (CSV) program, PANBERS
JAYA conducted the first planting of the
establishment of a private community-
owned rubber plantation in Waetina
Village, Waelata Sub-district, Buru Regency.
Rubber plant (Hevea brasiliensis) is
an annual plant that can live up to
approximately 30 years. This plant is not
native to Indonesia. However, the growth
is very fast.
Based on the data from the Ministry of
Agriculture in 2019, the national rubber
plantation area reached 3.67 million ha
with a production level of 3,630,268 tons,
or a productivity level of 1,161 kg/ha.
This proves that both area and production
of the national rubber plantation have
so much potential. Moreover, 85 percent
of the land area and production are
controlled by smallholders.
Taken from the data, rubber plantation
area in the country has been able to create
jobs for 2.5 million households, with an
average land ownership area of 1.25 ha,
and has been able to produce an export
volume of 2.99 million tons with a value of
US$ 5.10 billion.
When viewed as a whole, of the 3 million
of national rubber production, 80 percent
is produced from smallholder plantations.
A total of 247 thousand tons of national
rubber are produced from large state
plantations, and 378 thousand tons from
private plantations.
Meanwhile, in reality, opportunities for
rubber plantations are very promising,
because synthetic rubber raw materials
are increasingly limited, while the need for
natural rubber continues to increase by 2.5
percent per year.
The most beneficial thing is, Indonesian
natural rubber has a technical specification
required by the tire industry and various
types of industries that use other rubber
raw materials.
Therefore, in order to increase the rubber
absorption from domestic smallholders,
the first planting for the private
community-owned rubber plantation
development was carried out on July 13,
2020 through the creating shared value
(CSV) program of PT PANBERS JAYA, in
Waetina Village, Waelata Sub-district, Buru
Regency.
The CSV program is a concept in which
the company (PT PANBERS JAYA) plays an
active role in creating economic and social
values simultaneously for the surrounding
community, as part of the company’s
mission and existence. For that reason, the
CSV program is a form of cooperation that
aims to improve the farmers’ welfare.
With the CSV implementation, PT PANBERS
JAYA hopes that in the future, the existence
of private community-owned rubber
plantations can be realized, by utilizing
unused land or private non-production
agricultural land, especially for those who
are interested in planting rubber, own an
individual capital, and are able to manage
and maintain the rubber plantation.
Privately-owned rubber plantation
is a good form of investment for the
community, especially as an effort in
improving the economy and welfare.
Because with owning a private rubber
plantation, the community would not force
their own physical strength too hard in
maintaining plants just like other farmers/
planters of other types of plants, because
rubber require easier maintenance. Within
the period of 4 to 5 years, the sap can be
harvested. In fact, harvest can run until 25
years to 30 years in the future.
The Director of PT PANBERS JAYA, Lee
Hyun Shin, expressed that the first planting
activity for the establishment of private
community-owned rubber plantation
which was carried out through the creating
shared value (CSV) program from PT

PANBERS JAYA must be able to be utilized
by the community to improve welfare in
the future.
“This is an opportunity for people to be
more prosperous,” said Lee Hyun Shin, who
also attended the event.
The same tone was also expressed by the
Head of Waelata Sub-district, represented
by the Section Head of General Affairs of
Waelata Sub-district, Hariyanto. He said
planting a rubber tree was like planting
a money tree. “So the community will
be prosperous, if they own a rubber
plantation. I myself have a big interest in
establishing a private rubber plantation
someday,” he said.
Procurement of rubber plant seeds can
be carried out using a credit system,
where by depositing a down payment of
Rp3,500,000 (three million five hundred
thousand rupiah), the community can
obtain 555 (five hundred and fifty five)
seeds of these trees. Meanwhile, the
remaining costs for the seeds procurement
will be paid in installments, if in the future
the community’s rubber plantation has
been harvested.
The need for rubber plant seeds for an area
of 1 ha is as many as 555 (five hundred
and fifty five) trees, with a spacing of 6 x
3 m. Meanwhile, the price of the rubber
plant seeds is Rp15,000 (fifteen thousand
rupiah) per tree. So that the procurement
of rubber plant seeds for an area of 1 ha
(one hectare of area) is Rp15,000 x 555 =
Rp8,325,000 (eight million three hundred
twenty five thousand rupiah).
The cooperation to develop private
community-owned rubber plantation is
basically the company’s contribution in
providing solutions to improve the welfare
of the surrounding community, which
is according to the written statement si
carried out with an agreement to develop
a private community-owned rubber
plantation.
The agreement contains a cooperation
system, whereby the company facilitates
the procurement of rubber plant seeds and
guarantees that if the community rubber
plantation has been harvested for its sap,
PT PANBERS JAYA is obliged to buy rubber
latex with a price adjusted to the latex
price in the national market.
In addition to utilizing unproductive
private lands and improving the welfare
of the community, especially farmers, the
development of privately owned rubber
plantation through the CSV program is
also a new business opportunity that can
absorb labor, so that the unemployment
rate can be reduced, while also serves
as a form of land rehabilitation because
basically rubber plants do not need soil
with high fertility levels to grow.

launch of the podcast aims to provide

the remote area of Papua anytime and

through the podcast,” he said.
Asiki FM Radio itself is located in Asiki
Village, Jair District, Boven Digoel Regency,
Papua. The presence of this radio is a
contribution in the broadcasting sector
from PT Tunas Sawa Erma (TSE), an oil
palm plantation company operating in the
area, and is part of the Korindo Group.
The radio broadcasts on a frequency of
107.7 MHz which can also be accessed
through live streaming on website

Improvement at TSE-A CPO Mill

Palm oil is an oil derived from the fruit
of oil palm tree. The fresh fruit bunches
harvested from the oil palm trees are sent
to the palm oil processing mill for the oil to
be extracted.
TSE-A CPO Mill is the first palm oil
processing mill owned by KORINDO
Group. TSE-A CPO Mill processes palm oil
produced from the plantation in POP-A.
In palm oil processing, it takes several
machines with high production capability
and efficiency in order to avoid losses
in the process. However over time, the
capability of production machines may
decline which will impact on production
target not being achieved. This cannot be
ignored and requires a repair to regain
factory performance.
2019 was a year of innovation for TSE-A
CPO mill; the management set a target
for continuous improvement to increase
productivity and efficiency while also
reducing losses.
This is the basis of the forming of Task
Force Team (T/F) which mission is to
increase productivity, rendement/OER (Oil
Extraction Ratio), repair of FFA and other
indicators. T/F is led by the Manager of
TSE-A CPO Mill, Yosrizal, along with the
team from Learning & Innovation Center
from the Jakarta headquarters as a mentor
and chaperone.
After the T/F kick off meeting, the activity
started with analyzing problems in each
processing station in CPO mill A. This aims
to find out which process is the main cause
of low productivity and efficiency.
All members of T/F team performed
Gemba walk or taking a walk directly
to each processing station. From the
Gemba walk activity, several things can be
concluded as follows:
1. The condition of mill area and
machine tend to be dirty
2. Many unplanned and uncontrolled
stops in machines
3. Many working tools that cannot
function normally
From the findings above, T/F held a
discussion to create a repair plan, and
agreed on a repair through TPM Approach
(Total Productivity Maintenance).
TPM is a system used to maintain and
improve the production quality through
the maintenance of working tools and
equipment, such as machines, equipments,
and working tools. The basis of TPM
activity is 6S.
TPM began with 6S implementation in the
mill environment: how to create a cleaner,
tidier, and more organized mill. The
socialization of 6S activities is carried out
massively to all employees.
Sorting out unnecessary items, organizing,
and putting identification on necessary
items, and also cleaning the machines and
the entire mill area. All employees took
part in the activities. The morning briefing
was held to build spirit of all employees.
The 6S implementation began to show
results. The factory area was starting to
look clean and tidy because unnecessary
items have decreased significantly, and
the necessary items were starting to look
organized and identified. All machines
and the factory area have also started to
look clean and tidy. Most importantly, the
6S implementation has also changed the
mindset and built awareness from mill
workers on how to create a cleaner mill.

All repairs were carried out in stages in the entire mill area and are still ongoing up to date. Machine
maintenance is carried out by following the set standard and carried out periodically. The
Maintenance Preventive method was implemented to replace the previous method, namely
Breakdown Maintenance.
The rule enforcement and employees’ discipline were implemented in order to change the mindset,
because improvement can not go well without changing the mindset of all employees.
All of these efforts have brought out significant results, which can be seen from the following
indicators:

In addition to the 6S activities, repair was
also made to reduce unplanned stops on
machines: machines must be returned to
their normal condition. This is not an
easy task considering the machines at
TSE-A CPO Mill are already old, however
T/F tried their best so the machines can
run normally.
The condition of boiler as the heart of the
mill was normalized to allow the steam to
be produced optimally. The press station
as the one that determines OER (Oil
Extraction Ratio), consisting of nine
machines, previously had problems with
shift being broken over and over due to
foreign object, now has been managed
to return to normal condition so all press
station machines can operate normally.
The grille on the thresher which had
always been broken were repaired
according to the standard so it can run
normally again.

Jakarta – In an effort to help prevent the
spread of COVID-19 outbreak in Papua
region, Korindo Group has distributed
3,500 Personal Protective Equipments
(PPE) or hazmat suits for health workers at
Regional General Hospitals (RSUD) in the
Regencies of Merauke, Boven Digoel, and
Mappi.
This PPE donation was given symbolically
by the Senior Vice Chairman of Korindo
Group, Robert Seung to 3 representatives
of the regencies at Wisma Korindo
Building, Jakarta, Friday (29/5). With
support from the National Agency for
Disaster Management (BNPB), the
donation will be straightly distributed
to Regional General Hospitals in the 3
regencies.
As stated by Robert Seung, this donation
from Korindo Group complemented the
previous donation of 12,000 masks which
was distributed to the same 3 regencies
last April 9, 2020. “Korindo’s action
is a form of caring for others and our
appreciation for the high dedication from
the medical workers in facing the Covid-19
pandemic,” Robert Seung stated.

Task Force of Papua Province recently
stated that 34 medical workers were

BOVEN DIGOEL- Korindo Group distributed

BALIKPAPAN – PT Balikpapan Forest
Industries (BFI), one of Korindo Group’s
subsidiaries has repaired road access in
Gersik Village, Penajam Subdistrict, North
Penajam Paser Regency, East Kalimantan
Province. The area was chosen because
it is one of the access points to Jenebora
Village which is also the main route for the
surrounding community so that later it can
support the activities of the surrounding
community.
Previously, the community through the
Community Empowerment Agency (LPM)
had asked the company’s assistance to
repair the local road. This request was sent
by mail to the company in January 2019.
“LPM of Gersik Village is asking PT BFI
to repair the road from RT. 004 to Jalan
Batu Bara,” LPM wrote in the letter which
was signed by the Head of LPM of Gersik
Village, Edy Sud.
The request was sent considering that the
road in Gersik Village was a widely used
public access for the community. The road
was badly damaged. In fact, at several
points of the road, the condition is very
dangerous for road users, including after
the rain.
Roads with uneven contours that only
consists of soil have the potential to
cause a slip for anyone passing through,
especially users of two-wheelers. When it
rains, the road is almost impassable.
In total, the estimated cost incurred by the
company for repairing the community road
is Rp 105.2 million. Most, which was Rp
88 million, was allocated to purchase and
assemble rocks with a total volume of 220
square meters.
The repair process used the EX-200
heavy equipment especially rented by
BFI. Rocks were placed on the soil road
by the excavator to prevent the surface
from becoming slippery, so it would not to

LAMANDAU – PT Korintiga Hutani (KTH)
distributed 500 staple food packages for
people affected by the flood in Lamandau
Regency, Central Kalimantan Province. The
donation was sent through the Lamandau
Regency Government, Monday, July 13,
2020.
As is known, since the beginning of July
2020, the regency which is nicknamed
Bumi Bahaum Bakuba, was hit by severe
flood. Thousands of residents’ homes,
public facilities, and transportation access
were drowned. Moreover, thousands
of families spread across 7 subdistricts
in Lamandau Regency have sufferred
from the flood. Usual work activities are
impossible to do.
The General Manager of PT KTH, Rais
Sugito said, in response to the invitation
to the business world from the Regent of
Lamandau, H. Hendra Lesmana, to help
ease the burden of people affected by
the flood, PT KTH decided to participate
in distributing hundreds of staple food
packages to the flood victims through the
Lamandau Regency Government.
“Today (Monday, 7/13/2020), PT KTH
through the CSR program distributed 500
staple food packages to the Lamandau
Regency Government to be given to the
residents affected by flood,” Rais Sugito

(Covid-19) prevention is one of the most

entire community to comply with health

Thousands of
Residents Receive
Staple Food Donation
from Aspex
BOGOR – In 3 consecutive days in last mid-May, PT
Aspex Kumbong distributed aid packages of nine
staple food items to 2,130 people affected by the
COVID-19 pandemic in Dayeuh, Bojongkaso, and
Parungdegdeg Villages, Bogor Regency, West Java.
This staple food packages contain rice, cooking oil,
and sugar. It is hoped that this donation will be able
to meet the daily needs of the poor.
“We are trying to ease the burden on the
community by providing staple food donation which
is part of the company’s social awareness program,”
said the GM of HRD and GA at PT Aspex Kumbong,
Kim Geun Tai.
Assistant Manager for HRD and GA, Renaldi added
that the staple food distribution program is the
company’s caring activity for the community and will
be a regular activity every year.
The Head of Dayeuh Village warmly welcomed the
efforts that have been done by the company so far.
“The people of Dayeuh Village and I have always
supported the company’s operations and would
like to thank PT Aspex Kumbong for its donation
distribution, for caring about the conditions of the
community, especially underprivileged people who
are in need of help in dealing with this Covid-19

of West Kotawaringin (Kobar), Ahmadi
Riansyah made a visit to oversee the
construction of a road connecting Nanga
Mua Village and Pangkut Administrative
Village, North Arut Subdistrict (Aruta),
Tuesday, June 16, 2020.
In the activity, Ahmadi Riansyah was
accompanied by the Head of Public Works
and Housing (PUPR) of Kobar, Juni Gultom,
the Head of Aruta Subdistrict, and Aruta
Millitary Command. Ahmadi said this
road construction is the third stage of the
consortium carried out by PT Korintiga
Hutani. “In the midst of this Covid-19
outbreak, we are not only focused on
accelerating the handling of Covid-19, but
we must also remain consistent with the
infrastructure improvement programs, one
of which is by opening access to alternative
road from villages to subdistricts and
districts, and this is an effort to explore
economic growth,” Ahmadi explained.
This third consortium which was carried
out by PT Korintiga Hutani was originally
stated on the MoU as a 7.5 Km road, but
it turned out to be 17.5 Km. Based on
the budget calculation, the cost would be
Rp9.5 billion.
Ahmadi expressed his appreciation
to PT Korintiga Hutani for the strong
commitment and consistency to realize and
help the local government in development
acceleration, particularly in infrastructure.
Ahmadi hopes that the road construction
can run well and smoothly, so villages in
Aruta Subdistrict can develop and progress,
in terms of infrastructure and economy.

PT BCA Donates
Vegetable
Seeds and
Gardening Tools
to Indigenous
People of Papua
GETENTIRI – PT Berkat Cipta Abadi POP D
(BCA-D), which is a part of Korindo Group,
continues to strive to help improve the
economy of the Papuan people through
the Pillar of Economy of Corporate Social
Contribution (CSC) program by providing
an assistance of vegetable cultivation
and gardening tools to the family of Mrs.
Martina Kriban from Ateka Clan in Getentiri
Village, Jair District, Boven Digoel Regency,
Papua on Saturday (11/7).
“This donation from PT BCA-D is the
realization of the companys’ concern
for the community around the company
area who are experiencing economic
difficulties, so the company was moved
and took the initiative to provide assistance
in vegetable cultivation in the hope that
it can be utilized properly to support the
family’s economy,” said the representative
of PT BCA, Chan Ho Jung when met at the
handover ceremony.
This assistance starts from cultivating of
vegetable beds, mixing ordinary soil with
compost soil, making planting holes, and
planting seeds. Vegetable seeds provided
by the company include seeds of kale,
mustard greens, eggplant, tomato, chili
and corn. In addition, the community were
also given gardening tools, such as shovels,
hoes, and sprinklers.
Mrs. Martina Kriban who was present at
the handover ceremony was very grateful
and thankful to the company. “Thank you
to the company PT Berkat Cipta Abadi
POP-D for the assistance of this vegetable
garden, hopefully it can be useful to
improve our family’s economy,” she said.

BOVEN DIGOEL, PAPUA – As a form of the
company’s commitment to the surrounding
community, PT Papua Agro Lestari has
finished building one unit of clean and
livable long house for the community in
Guiss Village, Rawa Kasat, Boven Digoel
Regency, Papua. In early September
2020, the management of PT PAL has also
officially handed over the building to the
local community.
The donation was provided through
the company’s CSC (Corporate Social
Contribution) Program. The long house,
which construction started in 2019, has
5 doors with a total area reaching 200
m² complete with bedrooms, bathrooms,
living room, and a kitchen.
Several community representatives were
also present in the key handover ceremony
and expressed their gratitude for this
donation—one of them was Louis Walter
Maikuin, the Chief of Maikuin Clan, who
gave his appreciation for the company,
“Thank you to PT PAL for always being
present to help the people.”

Korindo Abadi Sprays Disinfectants
in Worship Places and Markets
BOVEN DIGOEL – Through the Corporate
Social Contribution (CSC) program, PT
Korindo Abadi (PT KA) in collaboration with
the Covid-19 Handling Acceleration Team
(P2C) and Tripidis Jair on Saturday (27/6)
sprayed disinfectants in all worship places
around Asiki Village, Boven Digoel. The
same thing was also done by the company
in Prabu Market, two places where many
people gather.
“During the pandemic, we try to spray
disinfectants regularly with the hope
that people can avoid the pandemic
and feel comfortable and safe in doing
their activities,” said Jimmy Senduk, the
Chairman of P2C Team of Korindo Papua.
The spraying was carried out in in all
worship places and markets located around
PT Korindo Abadi. Worship places where
the spraying was done include the Catholic
Church of Santo Fransiskus Xaverius- Asiki,
Indonesian Protestant Church of Ora
et Labora- Asiki, Pantecostal Church in
Indonesia, Evangelical Christian Church
in Papua Land, Oikoumene Christian
Church in Indonesia, Al Hidayah Mosque
– Asiki, An nuur Mosque – Mess for Staff,
Nurul Iman Mosque – Prabu, Pura Agung
Siwaloka – Asiki and also Prabu Market.
“We are very happy and comfortable
because the company has always paid
attention to the surrounding community.
Because of that, the relationship between
the community and the company is always
well-maintained,” Petrus said when met in
the corner of Prabu Market.
A similar sentiment was also expressed by
the representative of the Catholic Church

stated that he and the congregation felt

28 Outstanding
Students
JAKARTA – Korindo Foundation held
a scholarship award ceremony for
outstanding students from 5 universities
in Indonesia on September 28th and 29th,
2020. The event, which was held virtually,
involved 28 scholarship recipient students
and representative lecturers from UI,
UNAS, UGM, UPI, and IPB. For this year,
participants were not only selected based
on their academic scores, but it was also
prioritized for the ones whose families
were financially affected by Covid-19.
“We felt so many impacts during this
pandemic, that we are forced to meet
virtually like this. But this limitation does
not prevent us to always support the
education in Indonesia,” said the Secretary
General of Korindo Foundation, Yi Sun
Hyeong in his speech during the Korindo
Foundation (virtual) scholarship award
ceremony.
Furthermore, the students felt an
immense help with the scholarship from
Korindo Foundation. “We would like to
express our deepest gratitude to Korindo
Foundation that continues to care for us
and the education in Indonesia, even in
these difficult times. My parents, who
own a business in tourism sector have
experienced firsthand the financial impact
of this pandemic. Thanks to Korindo
Foundation, our burden has eased and
we can continue our study smoothly,” said
Hamna Hanafi, one of the scholarship
recipients from Korean Studies Program of
Universitas Indonesia.
Since 1998 until 2020, Korindo Foundation
has provided scholarships worth of
Rp6.6 billion to 2,647 students through
scholarship programs such as scholarship
for outstanding students, scholarship for
employees’ children, and exchange student

company. “After conducting a review and
speaking with the community, we decided
that we cannot let this problem go on any
longer,” he explained.
However, in addition to building a clean
water well, the company also made sure
that the source of water truly comes from
the flowing springs—so it can be ensured
that the residents will have no trouble
obtaining clean water even in the dry
season. “By building a clean water well that
comes directly from the springs, the
company hopes that the community won’t
have to worry about water crisis,” said Bae
Sung Tek. He hopes that this well could be
beneficial for Kukurantap Village.
“PT TSE will continue to strive to provide
the best for the community,” he ensured.
The Chief of Mikan Clan, Ignasius Mikan as
the community’s representative welcomed
the donation with enthusiasm. “We often
experience problems in obtaining clean
water during the summer, so we are very
grateful and thankful for the clean water
well built by the company,” he said after
