About Suwon Hwaseong Fortress Suwon Hwaseong Fortress was built when King Jeongjo, the 22nd king of Joseon, moved the tomb of his father, Crown Prince Sado, who died unfortunately in Duju to Suwon. It was designated as a historical site on January 21, 1963, and was also listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. In January 2016, about 1.83 of Suwon Hwaseong Fortress was designated as a special tourist zone.
  4. 4. Each Gate of Suwon Hwaseong Fortress Janganmun Gate is the north gate and main gate of Hwaseong Fortress in Suwon. Changryongmun Gate is the east gate of Hwaseong Fortress, and the name of the person who participated in the construction is engraved. Hwaseomun Gate is the west gate and a unique style that cannot be seen in other fortresses in Korea.
