Calcium lactate was added to concrete as a mineral admixture to improve its compressive strength. Testing of concrete cubes showed that compressive strength increased with the addition of calcium lactate, with the highest strength achieved at 3% calcium lactate replacement of cement by weight. Calcium lactate can be directly added to concrete or encapsulated within lightweight aggregates to reduce the concrete weight.
