1. MICROBIOLOGICAL ANALYSIS IN YOUR POCKET
Bio Conteri is the result of a university
project from the course Tech Challenge
offered and conducted by UnternehmerTUM
of the Technical University of Munich.
During the project, a prototype of a new
revolutionary product that could change health
care was developed based on a simple and cheap
testing device with a focus on developing
countries.

2. Almost 80 years ago, Alexander Fleming a Scottish
biologist discovered something that changed
worldwide health.
Bacteria are one of the oldest and
most remarkable living organisms.
This breakthrough was antibiotics,
they became crucial for the prevention
and treatment of bacterial infections.

3. According to the World Health Organization,
superbugs will become the biggest cause of
death by 2050.

4. How?
Through a simple and cheap device
consisting of:
• A Smartphone
• Optical Microscope
• A machine learning software
• A Microfluidic sample test Chip
We are convinced that the best solution is to
prevent the abuse of antibiotics by identifying
bacteria and their characteristics.

countries to ensure HUMANITY and BACTERIA,
THRIVE.

Time-consuming and

In developing countries:
- Scarce medical staff

- NOT possible to provide the right antibiotic prescription

DOCTORS do not give the
right treatments and
patients are not
guaranteed to get healthy
again.

6. Our Solution consists of a:
- Microfluidic chip
- An optical equipment
- Machine learning software
- A smartphone
Microbiological Analysis on a Phone by
It can be used right at the point of care.
- Doctors can analyze the sample of an infected person to ensure
personalized prescriptions.
- It analyzes patients sample right on the smartphone and does not
require any laboratory.

7. Use Case
About 150 million people will
develop urinary tract infection
per year, which is one of the
most common bacterial
infections among women.
We want to change those
numbers, and that is why our
device can provide solutions
for urinary infections. The procedure is very
simple:
- First we introduce the
urine sample together
with some medium in to
our chip.
- After some hours, the
type of bacteria can be
identified with our optical
device.
Afterwards, we also add
some antibiotics in order to
check if the bacteria of the
patient are already resistant
or not.
Thanks to this procedure, the
doctor will be able to provide
an accurate prescription.

- Moreover, their prices are around several thousand dollars.
- We expect that BioConteri device will be available for around 200 € plus a monthly fee for the
software license of 20 € per month per device.
