2. Miley Cyrus – Wrecking ball
This video includes a wide variety of camera angles and shots such as close ups and long shots. At the
beginning of the music video, the artist is miming the lyrics and the close up shot of her face shows her
emotions really well and the tear which could symbolise sadness and pain. The music video is both
narrative and performance. Throughout the video, the lyrics match with an action from the artist e.g. I
came in like a wrecking ball and all I wanted was to break your walls.
3. Klangkarussell - Sonnentanz
The costumes (shorts, sleeveless tops etc) at the beginning of the music video reflect the warm feeling
of the song and relate to the name of it. The young females who are used in the video are sunbathing at
the start which shows what most people do when it is sunny, particularly girls therefore this suggests the
artist is targeting this song and video more at the female than male audience. The use of sunglasses
and other props all relate to the sunny weather which all link to the main subject, the sun. The bright
lighting throughout the video reflects the heat and strength of the sun. Towards the end of the video, the
showing of the sunset is effective because it represents the end of the day.
4. Ellie Goulding - Burn
At the beginning of the music video, the people look like silhouettes and the song starts off slow but in
some parts it speeds up in which the video does too. The video is seen as aesthetically pleasing with
the sun shining through the corn fields. Towards the end of the video, the people dance more which
creates more movement as the song becomes upbeat so this is what the audience would expect.
Throughout the whole of the music video, the main focus seems to be on the artist because we are
consistently shown shots of her reminding the audience of who she is making her become more familiar
in the public eye. The artist is generally liked by the younger female audience which links to how the
artist is dressed. This works well because it helps to engage with her specific target audience which
might result in more people, females in particular watching the video more because they could see her
as an idol and relate to the way she dresses.
