WORKS(IS:1200 PART XXII)
MATERIALS

2. INTRODUCTION:
This IS part is about measurement of
materials used in civil construction. This Indian
Standard (Part XXII) was adopted by the Indian
Standards Institution on 20 April 1982.
This part is adopted to clear
inconvenience of material measurements
between different construction agencies and
also between various Central and State
Government Departments.

3. OBJECTIVES:
• Measurements of such materials
• Limits of measurements
• Variation of measurements for same items
Measurements of such materials:
Measurements of materials used in
construction are explained according to the
material type,usage, and occurence.some of
the meaurements of materials are described
in this code are as follows.

5. Limits of measurements:
Dimensions shall be measured net in
decimal system to the nearest 0.01 m, area to
nearest 0.01 in 2, volume to nearest 0.01 in3,
weight to nearest 1 kg.
Variation of measurements for same items:
Measurements of same material was
change according to their usage and quantity.
EXAMPLE: Bitumen is measured in sq m while
using as a DPC , and also measured in kgs while
using in a road works.

6. CONCLUSION:
Finally i conclude that measurements of
materials very important for any civil
construction work. We must follow this code
for inconvenience.
