The document describes an experiment on osmosis using eggs in different solutions. The purpose was to observe osmosis in a cell. An egg was placed in vinegar, and another in corn syrup, and their weights and sizes were measured before and after. The water egg gained weight and size as water moved into it, while the corn syrup egg lost weight and size as water moved out. The conclusion was that osmosis caused water to move between the solutions and eggs based on concentration differences.
2. Purpose
To observe osmosis in a
cell .
Measure weight of egg
using balance .
Measure size of egg
using measuring tape .
Place one egg in
vinegar, place the other
egg in the corn syrup .
Weight and measure
again .
3. Hypothesis
Egg in water :
The egg will
weight more .
Keep it’s natural
white color .
The size will
increase .
4. Hypothesis
Egg in Corn Syrup
:
I think the egg will
weigh more .
The egg will turn
brownish-
yellowish .
The size will
increase .
6. Observation
Before After
Corn Syrup W- 71.5 W-50.6
S- 16 cm S-14.5 cm
Water W-71.4 W- 87.5
S-16 cm S-18.5 cm
7. Visual
Observation
Vinegar :
Squishy and bouncy .
Egg sat in vinegar for 24 hrs.
Beaker full of foam on top .
Water :
Egg sat in water for 24hrs .
Looked fatter
Got bigger (Water went into
egg)
Corn Syrup :
Egg sat in corn syrup for 24
hrs.
Looked dented and deflated
Also got smaller (Water
came out of egg) .
8. Conclusion
Water Egg :
Water egg got larger
(because water moved into
the egg) .
The egg had lower
concentration then water .
Egg would get bigger and
would weigh more because of
osmosis .
And I was right about my
hypothesis.
I also guessed the would
keep it’s natural white colour
and it did .
Weight-Right.
9. Conclusion
Corn Syrup Egg :
The corn syrup egg got
smaller (because water
moved out of egg ) .
Water moved from higher
concentration (egg) to
lower concentration (corn
syrup) .
So I was wrong about my
hypothesis .
I also guessed that the egg
would be yellow-brownish
and I was right .
Weight-Wrong.
Size-Wrong.
Looks-Right.
