Ostrów received town privileges in 1404.
It has recently celebrated its 600th birthday.
A railroad hub was formed in Ostrów around
1875 and became a vital point of the town’s
development.
One of the town’s historic episodes was the so
called Republic of Ostrów, which was the
citizens’ upheaval of 1918.

During World war II, a Nazi labor camp
