The internship report summarizes Sooraj Seshan's 2-month internship at enParadigm. He was responsible for designing and revising their existing product catalog, including UI/UX for simulations. He gained experience in web design, understanding how users interact with interfaces. enParadigm focuses on design for complex products aimed at older users. It has grown successfully while facing some competition and remains profitable. The internship provided valuable learning and skills for Sooraj's continued education.
4. Introduction Goal of the Internship
History of the Organisation
The main objective of the internship was to learn how to implement
the skills that we have learnt in college over last two years . Apart from
execution of ideas and skills on field, learning industry skills and trade
secrets was very important and improving our overall skills was a
major objective.
enParadigm was started by Kumar Veetrag and John Cherian.Their
idea was to build a business model which started positive cash flow
from the beginning, rather than focussing to first get a huge market
share and then think of monetizing the business.
Over time, enParadigm has done well (last year, enParadigm was
ranked 9th fastest growing tech company in India, and 105th in Asian
pacific). They have included two more partners - Arun and Hanuman.
5. Organisational Structure
Context Environment
enParadigm is managed by four people, John, Veetrag, Arun and
Hanuman. John has two responsibilities - He is the CEO as well as the Head
of Sales/Marketing. Veetrag is the COO and takes care of Hiring as well.
Arun is Head of Products and He manages all the software engineers/Prod-
uct Managers and Designers etc.
Aditya reports to Arun. Hanuman is Head of Labs, He is in-charge of build-
ing new products. Prashanth reports to Hanuman. Apart from this, we have
a delivery team, which delivers workshops, this team
comprises of Veetrag, Arun, Aditya, Prashanth and Suhas. Now the team
size is 25.
“The Organisation was started in Ahmedabad and in 2011 we moved our base
to Bangalore for 2 reasons - First, we wanted to move closer to our clients, which
were present in Mumbai, Bangalore and New Delhi region. Second, we wanted
to have better access to software engineers who are the main foundation for this
company. In 2013, we moved our headquarters to Mumbai where most of our
clients are. We currently main 2 offices - Mumbai mainly for Sales and Market-
ing, and Bangalore for Product development, Operations and R&D.”

6. My Internship My Role in the Organisation
In the company from day one myself with my other batch mate were
given the responsibility of the designing and revamping all the existent
products in the catalog. (i.e. UI/UX for simulations). Every new projects
, their conceptualization and to the Design and Delivery part and
making sure its executed the way it was meant to was solely my
responsibility.
Responsibility
I was consulted on every design aspect, from conveying the basic
ideas to the engineering and to presenting new ideas and concepts to
the team. I was given complete freedom in terms of design and devel-
opment and like every assignment every project was well researched
and presented and executed.
Work Culture
Every day I was briefed early morning on the work that has to been
done, be it an on going project or on a project that has just come up.
I was provided with ample time to research and come up with ideas. I
had complete freedom to approach anyone at any time and discuss
concepts, it also included sitting for hours and brainstorming with the
team and solving problems.
7. Mission & Project
My major objective behind every project was to deliver designs for the
"Target Group" which would help make learning more interesting and
easy. Following the company's objective of simplifying learning, the
designs were part of the learning process not something that distract-
ed the user or had more emphasis than the learning content.
The different projects that I worked on included designing user inter-
face for various simulations which could be run across various web
platforms, as well as mobile apps and illustrations for case studies and
articles. All of the simulations are live and are being used by the com-
pany at workshops.
Understanding of the Work
The job was very well briefed to me from the time of personal inter-
view, knowing my limited knowledge regarding Web design I was well
trained at the office by them and was helped at every step. This knowl-
edge was what also helped to understand almost every aspect of web
design, be it how to make a website responsive or why CSS is used to
modern day design trends.
8. Analysis of the
Organisation
Focus on Design & Creativity
“We spent a lot of time on design, especially because most of our products
are complex with numbers, and is for people who are aged 40s and 50s,
and are not power users of computers. We spend a lot of time in figuring
out User Experience, Data representation etc. We do not spend much time
in creativity in this organization, but in recent months we have built a team
of designers are our focus is moving on product for masses, where creativi-
ty is must for faster growth.”
Competition
“We have some competition in market, for our leadership products a com-
pany called Capstone competes with us. For some of our smaller products
Knolskape is our competition. But most of the competition does not work
like ours, we do simulation plus sessions, othercompanies just do the
simulations.”
Financial Standing
“We are a profitable company since the first month of inception, we were
awarded the 9th fastest growing company by Deloitte Fast 50 in 2014.
We made INR 3.5 crore revenue in 2014.”
- Kumar Veetrag
COO, enParadigm
9. Human Resource
enParadigm is managed by 4 people, John, Veetrag, Arun and Hanu-
man. John has two responsibilities - he is the CEO as well as head of
Sales/Marketing. I am the COO and take care of Hiring as well. Arun is
head of products and he manages all the software engineers/product
managers and designers etc. The 25 employees are based in two offic-
es, one in Mumbai which handles the sales and Marketing where as
the Bangalore office takes care of product development and work-
shops.
Management
“Our main challenges going forward are how to scale up, since number of
people who can deliver workshops and limited and its hard to get highly
competent people in that team. That is why Hanuman's team is building
new generation products to help us get out of workshop delivery and move
to new app based learning products.”

COO, enParadigm
10. Conclusion Knowledge acquired and Global appreciation
The two months of internship was a very good experience, not only did
I acquire a new set of skills and techniques. I was introduced to web
design and how a user interacts with a interface works. Learning about
the user and how to execute design for a set of generic individuals to
a group of middle age corporate people. How learning is just not good
content its how the good content is conveyed to the user, communi-
cating to the user in a interactive way for him to go away with a experi-
ence which creates learning easy as it creates more recall than just
reading few paragraphs.
Executing design was just the first phase of the work, I was lucky
enough to go out in the field and see it being used and observe the
difficulties faced by the user and rectify it later. Overall those two
months were a very good learning curve.
Future Project
My work during the two months of internship was well received, the
organization has expressed there desire to use my skill set for further
projects on a full time basis. Since I am a still studying I am involved in
short term projects with the company.
