3. 4 Tools to Discuss
Today
• Setup Manager
• Notification and Alert Framework
• Pivot Grids
• Pagelet Wizard
• None of these tools require developer skills or in-depth
technical knowledge
• Purpose is to provide an overview of each, not a Deep
Dive
• Appropriate security access is required for each
5. What is it?
• Tool for automating PeopleSoft Application Configuration
• Produces step-by-step list of setup tasks for a module or
business process
• Provides ability to create Data Mover Scripts or Excel to
CI templates for some items
6. Why Use Setup
Manager
• When implementing a new module
• To review existing configurations to see if they are optimal
or if additional functionality can be leveraged
• To serve as a template for large and infrequent
configuration tasks (Example: setting up a new Business
Unit)
10. Key Columns
• Help hyperlink takes you to PeopleBooks for that task
• Setup Task hyperlink takes you to the page for that task
• Columns for Assigned To, Start Date, End Date, and
Percent Complete – useful for managing project
• Discussion hyperlink to record issues encountered,
questions about tasks, strategy for task or SQL Scripts
16. Summary
• Use Setup Manager for a New Module, Review Current
Configurations, or Configuration Changes
• Make use of Excel to CI for large amounts of data entry
• Make use of Data Move to test changes out and then
programmatically move the changes from Test to
Production
18. Framework Overview
The Framework provides 3 features that can be used to
monitor business process and create messages when
unusual situations occur.
• Events
• Notifications
• Alerts
19. Event
• Define, implement and run business logic for specified
events
• Define event and then build event handlers to
automatically manage the event with minimal impact to
delivered code
• Business logic is contained within an Application Package
• Requires Programming
20. Notifications
• Monitor the system and send notifications when
exceptions are found
• Notifications can be sent to the Notification Dashboard,
email, Worklist, or external system via XML.
• Some notifications pre-delivered such as those related to
inventory pegging. Others require customization.
• Notifications occur in “real time”
• Requires Programming
21. Alerts
• Functionality is similar to Notifications
• Instead of system customizations to send alerts in real
time, the system is relies on PeopleSoft Query.
• Benefit is simplicity – if you can write a PeopleSoft query,
you can create an alert.
• An Application Engine program is run to generate the
alerts based on whatever schedule we feel is appropriate
30. Notification Overrides
• If you put a User ID in the Query results, then the Alert
can be sent to that individual
• Option to send all notifications for a single BU to a specific
user or list of users
• Option to send all notifications for the entire system to a
specific user or list of users
36. Summary
• Use Alerts to bring situations to people’s attention – Avoid
need to read reports or go inquiry screens regulary
• Create a PS/Query to identify the condition that needs the
Alert
• Create the Alert, tying it to the PS/Query
• Decide to should receive the Alert – by OPRID, BU, or
System-wide
• Decide how alert is to be delivered
• Schedule App Engine Program to generate Alerts
38. What is a Pivot Grid?
• Pivot Grid enables users to visually display data in a
dashboard
• Display data in different views by pivoting and filtering
• View data in Grids or Charts
• Uses PSQuery as the Data Source
• Simple Wizard to create Pivot Grid
50. Pivot Grid Summary
• Provides basic BI functionality right in PeopleSoft
• Uses PSQuery as the input
• Simple 5-step Wizard
• Can publish Pivot Grid as a Pagelet using Pagelet
Publishing Wizard
52. What is Pagelet
Wizard?
• Pagelets are small pages that provide display-only
snapshots of applicable content
• Portal administrators and nontechnical users can use
Pagelet Wizard to integrate and transform data from a
variety of data sources
• Pagelet Data Sources can include OBIEE Reports,
PeopleSoft Query, Pivot Grids, External URLs, and more
• More advanced functions do require technical skills
70. Summary
• Any of these 4 tools can be used by non-technical users
• Some capabilities of these tools may require technical
skills
• Best practice: Play with these in a test environment but
get consensus in your organization before using them in
Production
• Look for other opportunities to unlock the capabilities of
your PeopleSoft system
