 High Level Solution Description:
• AAPAT utilizes advanced RFID technology to track in real time the location of
patients and associated mobile hospital assets (clinical staff, beds, pumps,
monitors, etc.).

asset for an exact clinical need.

and recording of the condition of Durable Equipment (Beds, Pumps,
Wheelchairs, etc.) with the goal of predicting End of Life/Replacement
Necessity.

and Sunrise Financial Manager.

3. Usability and Design
 The AAPAT system tracks patients and assets as they
move through the facility using advanced RFID
technology. There is no additional work required by the
provider.
RFID portals will be installed in unit and room entrances.
They will capture RFID tags that are embedded in
patient brackets, provider badges and equipment tags.

 The RFID tag reads will be transmitted back to the
central transaction server with the tag id and portal
location.
 The read information can be used to verify movement of
patients, asset, and providers thought the facility.
 A new tab in the patient screen will display the patients
movement along with providers and equipment entering
the room the patient is located in.

 Asset movement can be tracked to get a better picture
of asset utilization.
 Assets can be matched to patient locations to verify that
the proper equipment is in the right place at the right
time.
 Assets leaving the facility with a patient can be tracked,
assigned and billed to the patient.

 The majority of the development has been completed. Links into
the Sunrise database are in place, the RFID tag programming is
developed and the RFID tag reading for the initial (Alien
Technology) RFID scanning is running.

7. Integration Description
 The majority of data for this project is related to RFID
readers, assets and RFID tag movement, so a new database
has been created to store this information. Within the
database, stored procedures have been written to securely
retrieve data from the Sunrise database.
 The system uses the Allscripts.Helios.WebServices
UserAuthentication Class, PatientInfo Class and ClinicalInfo
class.
 The Eclipsys.Clinical.Windows.Interfaces is used to integrate
the RFID tab into the patient chart.

providers and printing RFID labels and badges. Next the
interface to the RFID readers is shown, followed by the
