TITLE: Child care project 
TABLE OF CONTENTS: This page should be completed when the folder is finished 
BRIEF: “Carry out research on any aspect of child development (0-12 yrs). The study 
must provide evidence of independent research and be presented in a logical 
sequence in a folder” 
ANALYSIS: State the brief in your own words and outline the key requirements 
e.g. I have been asked to…….. 
My research must be independent….. 
POSSIBLE 
SOLUTIONS: 
List the possible topics you could research e.g. physical development from 
conception to birth, foods for babies, pre-school……. 
SOLUTION: Give your solution/title for project and two good reasons why 
AIMS: List at least two aims of your project 
e.g. I aim to research the physical development of a baby from 
conception to birth 
WORK PLAN: Give a six week outline of how you intend to complete the project 
CONTENT:

D) Questionnaire/ 
Interview: 
E) Survey: 
F) Visit 
Use at least two methods of research from the following list: 
 Use books relevant to your aim and summarise the information in your own 
words 
 Use websites relevant to your aim and summarise the information in your 
own words 
 i) Introduce the letter – to whom and why you are writing it 
ii) Include a copy of the letter and response if you receive one 
iii) Summarise the key information received in your own words 
(i.e. what you learned from it) 
And use at least one method of research from the following list: 
 i) Introduce the questionnaire – to whom and why you are conducting it 
ii) Include a copy of the questionnaire and answers 
iii) Summarise the key information received in your own words 
(i.e. what you learned from it) 
 i) Introduce the survey – to whom and why you are conducting it 
ii) Include a copy of the survey and results ( could include bar charts) 
iii) Summarise the key information received in your own words 
(i.e. what you learned from it) 
 i) Introduce the visit – where and why you are visiting 
ii) Give an account of the visit including relevant info for your project 
iii) include sample questions, photographs or other relevant info 
iv) Summarise what you learned from your visit 
EVALUATION: 1) Did you achieve your aims? Why? 
2) What skills did you learn from carrying out this project? 
3) Which research methods did you find particularly useful and why? 
4) What changes you would make if you were to carry out this project 
again? 
BIBLIOGRAPHY: Give a list of books + author, Website + address, Organisations you obtained 
information from and places visited throughout your research project

JUNIOR CERT CHILDCARE PROJECT © PDST Home Economics TITLE: Child care project TABLE OF CONTENTS: This page should be completed when the folder is finished BRIEF: “Carry out research on any aspect of child development (0-12 yrs). The study must provide evidence of independent research and be presented in a logical sequence in a folder” ANALYSIS: State the brief in your own words and outline the key requirements e.g. I have been asked to…….. My research must be independent….. POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS: List the possible topics you could research e.g. physical development from conception to birth, foods for babies, pre-school……. SOLUTION: Give your solution/title for project and two good reasons why AIMS: List at least two aims of your project e.g. I aim to research the physical development of a baby from conception to birth WORK PLAN: Give a six week outline of how you intend to complete the project CONTENT: A) Books: B) Web sites: C) Letters: D) Questionnaire/ Interview: E) Survey: F) Visit Use at least two methods of research from the following list:  Use books relevant to your aim and summarise the information in your own words  Use websites relevant to your aim and summarise the information in your own words  i) Introduce the letter – to whom and why you are writing it ii) Include a copy of the letter and response if you receive one iii) Summarise the key information received in your own words (i.e. what you learned from it) And use at least one method of research from the following list:  i) Introduce the questionnaire – to whom and why you are conducting it ii) Include a copy of the questionnaire and answers iii) Summarise the key information received in your own words (i.e. what you learned from it)  i) Introduce the survey – to whom and why you are conducting it ii) Include a copy of the survey and results ( could include bar charts) iii) Summarise the key information received in your own words (i.e. what you learned from it)  i) Introduce the visit – where and why you are visiting ii) Give an account of the visit including relevant info for your project iii) include sample questions, photographs or other relevant info iv) Summarise what you learned from your visit EVALUATION: 1) Did you achieve your aims? Why? 2) What skills did you learn from carrying out this project? 3) Which research methods did you find particularly useful and why? 4) What changes you would make if you were to carry out this project again? BIBLIOGRAPHY: Give a list of books + author, Website + address, Organisations you obtained information from and places visited throughout your research project
