2. El proyecto “Arte y Naturaleza” trata de crear una colección de obras que tienen una voluntad de
futuro y, por tanto de ser objetos para la historia y el patrimonio contemporáneo, ya que su
finalidad es ser testigos de la actualidad.
The Arte y Naturaleza [Art and Nature] project aims to create a collection of works of art that looks
to the future, and as the objective of these works is to stand as a testament of the present day they
will, therefore, soon become the objects of contemporary history and heritage.

3. La historia no es sólo una manera de conocer e interpretar el pasado sino que puede ser también
entendida como una herramienta que nos ayude a situarnos en el presente y proyectar el futuro.
History not only provides us with a way of knowing and interpreting the past, it may also be
employed as a tool to help us better understand our present and plan the future.

4. En el paisaje de Huesca se articulan una serie de intervenciones cuyo fin último es estudiar y
potenciar las relaciones entre el arte y la naturaleza utilizando como marco territorial la provincia
de Huesca.
A series of art interventions has been arranged for the landscape of Huesca. The desired
outcome is to study and foster relationships between art and nature using the territorial framework
of the province of Huesca.

5. La filosofía del proyecto Arte y Naturaleza intenta involucrar a los artistas más significativos
dentro de este género de trabajo con la creación de una obra pensada para lugares específicos
de la provincia, con libertad de elección del territorio.
The idea behind the Arte y Naturaleza project is to strive to engage with the leading artists in this
genre and encourage them to create site-specific works of art designed for places in the province
of their own choosing.

7. Entre los objetivos de la creación de estas obras figura asumir desde las miradas de los artistas
nuevos criterios paisajísticos como un referente más a la hora de planificar y crear una conciencia
paisajera.
One of the aims of the creation of these works of art is to apprise, via the artist’s viewpoint, of new
landscape criteria that can serve as additional factors to be taken into account when designing and
building landscape awareness.

There are unlikely places like this where it becomes possible to fleetingly reconstruct a notion of
art that is as wished-for as it is impossible: an art that frees us from cultural preconceptions.

Desde su propio título esta obra revela el talante del artista: nada de monumentos elevados, nada
de propuestas artísticas intelectualmente inaccesibles; por el contrario, algo sencillo, simple y
sobre todo utilizable, algo que pueda responder a las necesidades reales de una comunidad
concreta y que contenga en su misma simplicidad y utilidad toda su belleza.
The title of the work already says a great deal about the artist’s approach. Armajani is not
interested in grandiose monuments or intellectually inaccessible artistic trends. Instead, what he
wants to create is something simple and, above all, something that can be used, something that
responds to the real needs of a specific community, and whose beauty lies entirely in its simplicity
and usefulness.

Las obras de Fernando Casás no son alegatos de denuncia ni llamadas de atención, ellas
responden a otra lógica de la que emerge la imagen de la duda. Son figuras que ofrecen una
muestra de lo que el hombre hace a través de la acción particular de uno de esos hombres. Las
obras de Fernando Casás son, por tanto, testigos emblemáticos de la acción humana.
The works of Fernando Casás are not denunciations; nor are they intended as a means of drawing
attention. They reflect another logic, from which the image of doubt emerges. They are figures that
show what man does through the individual action of one man. The works of Fernando Casás are
therefore emblematic witnesses to human action.

Tres vessels de roble (430 x 90 cm) y rosa de los vientos de bronce (120 cm diámetro)
Nash ha proyectado la obra Three Sun Vessels for Huesca que puede interpretarse más que
como un reloj de sol como un observatorio, un gnomon que permite observar los solsticios, los
cambios equinocciales y sobre todo, determinar el lugar. Nash toma en cuenta la dimensión
ceremonial del lugar en el que instala los Sun Vessels, esa pequeña ermita de Santa Lucía a la
que ahora se añade una visión de otra dimensión del tiempo.
Nash has developed a work entitled Three Sun Vessels for Huesca. Rather than a sundial, the
work can be seen as an observatory, a gnomon that allows for observation of the solstices, the
equinoctial changes and, most importantly, that marks the place where it stands. Nash takes into
account the ceremonial dimension of the place where the ‘sun vessels’ are installed, at the site of
the Santa Lucía hermitage, to which a view of another dimension of time has now been added.

Esta obra compromete indistintamente al lugar, al ubicarse en él y dotarlo de un nuevo sentido, y
también al cuerpo de quien penetra en su interior. Los grandes muros ciegos de piedra no
configuran ni una casa ni una nave agrícola sino que constituyen una “arquitectura poética”, un
mandala, en cuanto que se elevan para ofrecer una potente estructura geométrica sin
funcionalidad, que sirve para encerrar en su interior una metáfora del árbol, la escultura en bronce
que se deja ver parcialmente en el interior de un gran gnomon, un menhir contemporáneo.
The work engages with the place by virtue of its presence there and the new meaning it gives its
surroundings, as it also engages with the bodies of those who penetrate in its interior. The blind
stone walls do not form part of the structure of a house or agricultural building; instead they
constitute a ‘poetic architecture’, a mandala, rising up to offer a powerful geometric structure
without function, a structure that serves to enclose a metaphorical tree, the bronze sculpture
partially visible within a large gnomon, a contemporary menhir.

La obra que a la vez está y no está. Que no hay necesidad de rodear porque se puede entrar en
ella. Que es de apariencia maciza y, no obstante, transparente. Que semeja un edificio pero que
no lo es, que no es una escultura ampliada y que tampoco fluctúa entre ambos. Es totalmente lo
que es y no plantea estas cuestiones.
The work that is and is not there at the same time. One has no need to circumvent because it
offers the possibility of entering. That has a solid and yet transparent appearance. That looks like
a building, but is not a building. That is not an expanded sculpture, nor does it fluctuate between
building and sculpture. It is entirely what it is, and it does not pose those questions.

Se trata de analizar a través de cursos, exposiciones y publicaciones, los problemas y las
condiciones a las que se encuentran sujetas estas obras de arte público, intentando aportar los
elementos teóricos y prácticos necesarios para su comprensión y recepción social.
The idea is to analyze –by means of courses, exhibitions and publications– the issues and the
conditions affecting these public art works, and to endeavour to contribute the essential
theoretical and practical knowledge for understanding it and its social impact.

60. El CDAN trata de fomentar un amplio debate en el terreno intelectual. En 2006 se inició un ciclo
de cinco cursos anuales dedicados a un tema más específico: el paisaje.
The CDAN strives to encourage wide-ranging intellectual debate. In 2006, it launched a
programme of five annual courses devoted specifically to the subject of landscape.

64. El Centro, como editor, publica las conclusiones derivadas de estos encuentros y apoya o
coedita obras que tengan como eje fundamental el arte contemporáneo y la naturaleza.
The Centre has edited and published the conclusions arrived at in these meetings and, in
addition, it supports and co-publishes similar works which revolve around the subject of
contemporary art and nature.

66. El CDAN cuenta con un centro de documentación específico, el INDOC, un espacio para la
reflexión e investigación sobre arte contemporáneo y, más concretamente, sobre arte y
naturaleza, arte público, estudios sobre el paisaje.
The CDAN houses its own specialized research centre, the INDOC, a place for thinking and
research into contemporary art and, more specifically, into art and nature, public art and
landscape studies.

67. Con la voluntad de acercar el arte contemporáneo a todos los públicos, desde el CDAN se
realizan una serie de programas didácticos que acompañan a las exposiciones temporales, de
esta forma se pretende convertir el Centro de Arte y Naturaleza en un espacio vivo donde tengan
cabida encuentros y acercamientos entre el público y el arte contemporáneo.
In its efforts to bring contemporary art closer to all audiences, the CDAN organizes a series of
didactic programmes to accompany the temporary exhibitions. In this manner, the Centro de Arte
y Naturaleza aims to be an active venue where encounters and interaction between the visitors
and contemporary art are encouraged.
