MODERATOR- DR ANAND KUMAR (DNB, ORTHOPAEDICS)
PRESENTER- DR ATUL KUMAR SRIVASTAVA, JR2
2. Approximately 1 to 2 % of all fractures
60 % of all tarsal fractures in adults
Most frequently fractured tarsal bone
Male to female ratio of 2.4 : 1
Approximately 70 % of calcaneal fractures
results from falls
INTRODUCTION
33. SANDERS CLASSIFICATION
• Useful for planning operative treatment
• More detailed
• Reflecting the fact that primary fracture line can often consist of
two or more separate fracture lines breaching the articular surface
• Describes number and disposition of these fracture lines through
the posterior facet as seen on CT scan
34. The number of fragments is first indicated by a numeral :
I. all undisplaced fractures
II. Two fragments
III. Three fragments
IV. Any comminuted fracture
The location of primary fracture line through the posterior
facet is indicated by a letter :
A. a fracture line through the lateral portion of posterior facet
B. a fracture line through the middle portion of posterior facet
C. a fracture passing medially at the neck of sustentaculum
36. a. incongruity of posterior facet articular surface
b. loss of length and height of calcaneus
c. increase in heel width
d. varus malalignment of tuberosity
e. subfibular impingement from the lateral wall
fragment, which entraps the peroneal tendons.
