THE PASSIVE VOICE
the object of the active voice become the subject in the passive voice:
Example:
Active:
 Mario Vargas Llosa wrote many books.
Passive:
 Many books were written by Mario Vargas Llosa
The passive voice is used:
 when the person who does the action is unknown, unimportant or obvious from the
context
Example:
 She has been arrested.
 A car has been stolen.
 This picture was painted.
 In the passive voice, by is used when we want to know who done the action. Also in
some occasion is used with to refer to the instrument or thing that was used.
EXAMPLES:
 One hundred years of solitude was written by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
 The pancake was made with butter, eggs and milk.
