The Diversity AND Inclusion Talks + Awards
THE DANDIs
New York Times Center
The Times Center
242 West 41st
Street
New York, NY
Dear Friends:
We are pleased to announce the 4th
Annual 2015 DANDI Talks + Awards on Friday, November 13th
. It will
be a DANDI day bringing diversity and inclusion conversations to New York!!! We’re blowing the horn loud
and clear.
Cheryl Gentry and Sherry Snipes, friends since 1995, met while both were working as HR Specialists at the
Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). After working together on several projects over the
years, and often discussing the success and failure of corporate diversity initiatives, the DANDI Awards
was born.
The day kicks off with a DANDI Talk, then features a DADNI Chat, and highlights a DANDI Conversation.
And finally the DANDI Awards which heralds individuals and organizations for demonstrating outstanding
commitment to creating a more diverse and inclusive world!
We invite you to join us in celebration as a sponsor of the Talks + Awards Ceremony . The levels of
participation are described in the enclosed information. As a sponsor of this event, you will support
continued commitment to diversity and inclusion. Our sponsorship opportunities offer something for
everyone and include Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze, or DANDI Supporter. Also, we can tailor partnerships
to suit your goals and objectives.
We need your response as soon as possible so that we
may acknowledge your participation in our publicity
materials.

FORUM8:30 a.m. Welcome and Opening Remarks
8:40 a.m. Conversations Race
An ethnic group or ethnicity is a population group whose members identify with each other on the basis of
common nationality or shared cultural traditions. The term race refers to the concept of dividing people into
populations or groups on the basis of various sets of physical characteristics. While many countries shy away
from classifying individuals according to these classifications, this continues to be a critical social issue in the
United States from access to job opportunities to profiling to resources. This opening conversation will focus on
the impact of race as a social construct and how to move past it for the greater good.
9:30 a.m. Conversations on Health, Disabilities and Mental Health
In the United States, mental disorders account for more than 15% of the burden of disease from all causes and
ethnic minorities are less likely to have insurance and seek help for health issues the World Health Organization
(WHO) defines these “social determinants of health” as the conditions in which people are born, grow, live, work
and age that can contribute to or detract from the health of individuals and communities. During this eye
opening session, these individuals will discuss the subject of health disparities and mental disorders and how
these critical topics influence perceptions, impact opportunities and impact performance.

play.

Conversations on Gender and the Race to Be Fashionably Beautiful
The global continuum on diversity continues to become more diverse, many organizations in the beauty and
fashion industry continue to be challenged by underrepresentation of diverse images? During this conversation,
our experts will discuss the status quo and openly challenge societal views on gender.

Interactive Workshop on Implicit Bias (Sponsored by Cornell University)
2:15 p.m. Networking Break
2:30 p.m. Conversations on Values Based Leadership, Supporting Social Causes and Giving Back
Diversity impacts each and every one of us in different ways, whether at work, socializing, at your children’s
schools, shopping or walking down the street. During this interaction conversation, we will hear from individuals
who are making a difference through their work by focusing on values and supporting causes to make an
impact.
3:30 p.m. Executive Conversations on STEM
Innovations resulting from science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields have positively
touched nearly every aspect of human life. Despite a national focus on directing more students toward science,
technology, engineering and math fields – particularly women and minorities – the STEM workforce continues to
be challenged to be more diverse. We have engaged Diversity Executives who are leading the charge at
Science, Technology and Engineering companies to discuss the impact of the work at their respective
organizations.

  • 11. THE DANDI EXECUTIVE FORUM8:30 a.m. Welcome and Opening Remarks 8:40 a.m. Conversations Race  An ethnic group or ethnicity is a population group whose members identify with each other on the basis of common nationality or shared cultural traditions. The term race refers to the concept of dividing people into populations or groups on the basis of various sets of physical characteristics. While many countries shy away from classifying individuals according to these classifications, this continues to be a critical social issue in the United States from access to job opportunities to profiling to resources. This opening conversation will focus on the impact of race as a social construct and how to move past it for the greater good.  9:30 a.m. Conversations on Health, Disabilities and Mental Health In the United States, mental disorders account for more than 15% of the burden of disease from all causes and ethnic minorities are less likely to have insurance and seek help for health issues the World Health Organization (WHO) defines these “social determinants of health” as the conditions in which people are born, grow, live, work and age that can contribute to or detract from the health of individuals and communities. During this eye opening session, these individuals will discuss the subject of health disparities and mental disorders and how these critical topics influence perceptions, impact opportunities and impact performance.   10:30 a.m. Networking Break  10:45 a.m. Conversations on Culture, Social & Environmental Justice During this enlightening session our speakers will explore the impact of culture on social justice, the view that everyone deserves equal economic, political and social rights and opportunities and the intersection of culture on with environmental justice, the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people. Our experts will discuss solutions and provide insight into how social and environmental justice impact how we work, live and play.  11:45 p.m. Conversations on Gender and the Race to Be Fashionably Beautiful  The global continuum on diversity continues to become more diverse, many organizations in the beauty and fashion industry continue to be challenged by underrepresentation of diverse images? During this conversation, our experts will discuss the status quo and openly challenge societal views on gender.  12:45 p.m. Interactive Workshop on Implicit Bias (Sponsored by Cornell University) 2:15 p.m. Networking Break  2:30 p.m. Conversations on Values Based Leadership, Supporting Social Causes and Giving Back  Diversity impacts each and every one of us in different ways, whether at work, socializing, at your children’s schools, shopping or walking down the street.
