Othello Unit Plan

Analyze the learner
Ages range from 17-19 years old
14 females, 11 males
Grade 12
1 African-American, 1 Indian, 1 Jewish, 1
 with ADD
Main Objective
The students will be able to demonstrate
 close reading, as well as critical thinking
 skills from reading the play Othello. As well
 as participating in in-class
 discussions, short writing
 assignments, observing videos, and a final
 group project by the end of the week with
 97% competency in the Shakespearean
 play.
Day 1
      Intro to the play
 Students will watch a trailer to the movie Othello.
  (youtube)

 Students will then complete a short free-write
  prompt on revenge.
Day 2
    Acts I & II.
Podcast
Discussion – theme: Revenge
Writing assignment
Day 3
    Acts III. & IV.
Powerpoint
Discussion – theme: Manipulation
Writing assignment
Day 4
   Act V.
Powerpoint
Discussion
Day 5
    Close Reading activity
Students will be placed in to four groups.
 Each group will represent a character
 through twitter creating an account for
 them. The groups will then paraphrase the
 text and tweet the dialogue to the other
 groups.
