Changing the Face of
Literacy with The ASL
Accessible Materials Project
What if professionals, parents, and students had daily access to quality American Sign Language
educational materials in the school setting and at home? What if these materials were free and
readily available with the purchase of companion texts, enabling young children and students to
have opportunities for repeated viewings that can support them in developing language, literacy
and academic skills?
The Accessible Materials Project Team will share multiple examples of ASL accessible
instructional materials including assessments, guided reading materials, children’s books
and original ASL stories and poetry. We will demonstrate how teachers and families are
implementing these materials to accelerate student progress in language, literacy and the
acquisition of content standards.
