Water is the basis of all life
Water distinguishes Earth from
other planets
One can survive without food for a
few weeks, not without WATER!
Why is it important to
save water?
The current rate at
which water is being
used will lead to
complete scarcity if
not cared for
promptly
 About 70% water is used in
agricultural activities, 95% in
developing countries
 10% of all foods we eat come from
crops cultivated with wastewater
 By 2030 population will grow by 2
billion people putting a strain on
water resources
 It takes 2000 – 5000 liters of water to
produce a person’s daily food
Interesting Facts
Water is used for:
 Agriculture
 Manufacturing and Construction
 Cooling processes
 Drinking
 Domestic purposes
 Bathing
 Cleaning utensils
 Sanitation
Water is technically considered a
renewable resource because it can
be used over and over again and it
has a rain cycle
Amount of water on planet
Sources of water
Fresh water
as water falling from the skies and
moving into streams, rivers, lakes, and
groundwater, provide people with the
water they need every day to live
Surface water
wells and boreholes
Desalination of water
Effects of Water Shortage
 There wont be enough water to grow crops
 People would fight for water and could be the
cause of World War 3
 Will lead to a change in climate due to prevalence
of dry weather
 May lead to desertification of large areas due to
reduced rainfall
 Women are forced to find water wells
located far away from homes
 Female children are forced to leave
school just to find water for families
 Many children drink untreated sewage
water leading to Cholera, Dysentery
and Hepatitis
Some Useful Tips To Avoid Water pollution
Water Treatment
By Proper Waste Management
Solution For Water Pollution
3R’s to prevent Water Pollution
 Refuse : Say No to Water Pollution
 Reduce : Minimize the use of water
