PRESENTATION ABOUT
PRINTERS
 WHAT IS PRINTER?
PRINTER ARE OUTPUT DEVICES USED TO PREPARE PERMANENT OUTPUT
DEVICES ON PAPER ARE CALLED PRINTERS.
TYPES OF PRINTERS
THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF PRINTERS
(1). IMPACT PRINTERS
An impact printer makes contact with the
paper.it usually forms the print image by pressing
an inked ribbon against the paper using a
hummer or pins.
TYPES OF IMPACT PRINTERS
Dot matrix printer.
 The dot matrix printers uses print heads containing from 9 to 24 pins.
 These pins produce patterns of dots on the paper to form individual characters.
 The word get printed on the paper when the pin strikes the carbon.
Daisy wheel printer.
 In order to get the quality of type found on typewriters, a daisy wheel impact printer can be used. In a
daisy wheel printer a hammer strikes a petal containing a character against the ribbon, and the
characters prints on the paper. It’s speed is slow typically 25-55 characters per seconds.
PRESENTATION ABOUT
PRINTERS
Dot matrix printer
Line printer
 In business where enormous amount of material are printed, the characters at a time
were two slow, therefore these users need line at a time printers. Line printers use
special mechanism that can print a whole line at one. They can typically print the
range of 1200 to 6000 line per minute.
Drum printer
 A drum printer consist of a solid cylindrical drum that has raised characters in bands
on it’s surface. The numbers of prints position across the drum equals the numbers
available on the page. The typically range from 80-132 print position. Typical speed
drum printer are in the range of 300 to 2000 lines per minute.

Line printer
Chain printer
 A chain printer uses a chain of print character wrapped around two pulleys. The chain keeps rotating
until all the required print positions on the line have filled. The page moves up to print the next line.
Speeds of chain printers range from 400 to 2500 characters per minute.
Band printer
 A band printer operates similar to chain printer except it uses a band instead. Band
printer has a steel band divided into five sections of 48 characters. Characters are
rotated in to place and struck by the hummer. Font style can be easily changed by
replacing a band or chain.

(2). NON-IMPACT PRINTERS
NON-IMPACT PRINTER DO NOT USE A STRIKING DEVICE TO
TO PRODUCE CHARACTERS ON THE PAPER, AND BECAUSE THESE PRINTER
DO NOT HAMMER AGAINST THE PAPER THEY ARE MUCH QUIETER.
TYPES OF NONIMPACT PRINTERS
Ink-Jet printer.
 It is non-impact printer producing a high quality print. A standard inkjet printer has a resolution of
300dpi.
 Ink jet printer were introduced in the later half of 1980s and very popular having to their extra ordinary
performance.
 It prints head having four ink cartridges moves, software instructs where to apply the dots of ink, which
color and electrical pulses are sent to the resister behind each nozzle.
 Vapor bubbles of ink are formed by resistors and the ink is forced to the paper through nozzles.
 A matrix of dots forms characters and pictures.
laser printer.
 Laser printer use very advanced technology and produced a high quality output. Laser printers can also
produced high quality graphics images. Resolutions is 600 to 1200dpi.
