I. INTRODUCTION
Indiviudal and society are inseperable the existence of one being depend
on the other. The progress and development of man and society both depent
upon succesful interaction between them. Man is a social animal because he is
born in a society. Hence for succesful social living of an individual;
socialisation is essential.Through education socialisation become possible.
Education make the relation between man and community. Community
provides concrete, visible, resources which are extremely dynamic,interesting
and meaningful for the teaching and learning of Social Science.
Here,we discuss about one of the community resource Social Science
Library.
II. SOCIAL SCIENCE LIBRARY
A library is a collection of information and similar resources, made
accessible to a defined community for reference or borrowing. It provides
physical or digital access to material, and may be a physical building or room,
or a virtual space, or both. A library's collection can include books,
periodicals, newspapers, manuscripts, films, maps, prints, documents, CDs,
Microform, Cassettes, Videotapes, DVDs, Blue-rays, Discs, e-books, audio
Books, Databases, and other formats.

Library is the hub and centre of the intellectual activity in the literary life
of the recognized school and place the same part, that is as the laboratory place
for science subjects and the workshop for technical subjects. A good library is a
sign of good teaching and effective learning.
The Social Studies as an area of school curriculum demands a lot of
reading on the part of both teacher and pupils. There is the utmost necessity for
the provision of bookas well as non -bookresources for the proper teaching and
learning of Social Science.
III. OBJECTIVESOF SOCIAL SCIENCE LIBRARY
To create interest on the subject.
To stimulate the students mind into a fine restlessness.
To develop in the student a critical attitude and a capacity for independent
judgement .
To cultivate the students, a taste for extra reading.
To acquaint the pupils with the various forms in which Social Studies
materials can be had.
IV. IMPORTANT LIBRARY RESOURCESFOR SOCIALSCIENCE
1. Book resources
Books are essential for presenting different point of view, that
would provide adequate background reqired for understanding the people
the places and the processes being discussed in social science instruction.

Text books.
Unit booklets.
Related general books.
Reference materials .
Non book resourse:
Periodicals.
Pamphlets.
News papers.
Internet etc.
2. Reference materials
The library should be fairly well-equipped with reference materials
standard or conventional reference book and non conventional reference
book.Conventional reference books include dictionaries, encyclopedias,
year books, atlas, maps, charts, pamphlets, handbooks, manuals, syllabi
of different classes and books of knowledge. The non conventional
reference material consist of all other library books that may be employed
for reference service of any other kind. They include books on
miscellaneous information and books on special subjects History,
Economics, Civics, Sociology, Anthropology, Goverment and Political
theory.

3. Non- book resources
The field of Social Studies is connected with happening in the local
community, the state, the native and the world. The following non-book
resources should be available in the Social Studies library.
Periodicals
Some good periodicals and magazines which throw light on current
event and various aspects of life showing art, literature,music,dance,etc
should be available in the library.
Phamphlets
Phamphlets published by various Goverment agencies and bureaus
for specialized service also very important source of information about
different walks of our social ,economic and political ife.
Newspaper
It is essential that the Social Studies teacher and pupil should well
informed of events national and international importance. News paper is
a wonderful source of such information.
V. HOW TO UTILIZE LIBRARY RESOURCES
The following guidelines will help effective use of library resources
Library instructions may be given in two ways individual or to
groups
Acquaint children with the use of catalogue

The librarian and the teachers should decide procedures suited to
the need of their particular situation
The efficient use of dictionaries,encyclopedias and atlases should
be taught to all pupils as early in the year as possible
Assignment should be given in the form of problems
Compell the pupil to investigate and examine multiple source
Make the students aware about the importance of books and
libraries.
VI. SIGNIFICANCE OF SOCIAL SCIENCE LIBRARY
A good library assist pupils to become skillful and discriminating users of
printed materials .
It provide help in the cultural growth of the students.
Library helps the pupils in profitable use of their leisure hours.
Library helps to develop the habit of supplementary reading.
Library reduce the chance of indiscipline in the schoolcampus.
VII. CONCLUSION
The library is considered to be the intellectual laboratory of the school.A
library is the treasure vault of ideas, the store house of knowledge and flowing
stream of living thought. If social Science is to be a living and vital discipline
the library must be accepted as an integral part of the entire Social Science
programme.
