In the small intestine, nutrients enter the bloodstream and are circulated to the body’s cells. The villi help because they are covered with tiny, nutrient absorbing cells that pass nutrients into the bloodstream.
The small intestine is a muscular tube that is about 2.5 cm in diameter. The villi is located on the inside walls of the small intestine. The duodenum is the name of the very first part of the small intestine.
In the duodenum chemical digestion of proteins (click), carbohydrates (click), nucleic acids (click), and fat (click) take place.
The large intestine is larger in diameter than the small intestine. It’s 1.5 m long and 7.5 cm in diameter. The large intestine surrounds the small intestine
The large intestine stores, compacts and eliminates indigestible material from the body. It enters large intestine as a soupy mixture. Then it absorbs most of the water in the mixture and changes liquid into semisolid waste called feces or stool. Whole grain, fruits, and vegetables, contain a carbohydrate called cellulose (which humans cannot digest). Bacteria help because they feed on cellulose
