OWLMandatory components of Discourse Transcription and Reflection:Summary of the
interaction should include brief information about the speakers, contents of the interaction,
and context of the interaction (as well as any other background information you think is
relevant) in order to contextualize your transcription and reflection. Also, indicate the
length of the transcribed interaction (e.g., 8.5 minutes or 8 minutes 30
seconds);Transcription system that you utilized in your transcript (consult the resources
provided in Discourse Transcription and Reflection Module). Provide a clear and consistent
transcription system including (1) all of the symbols that you actually used in your
transcript, and (2) a description of each transcription symbol;Transcription of the
interaction should be done as accurately as possible following the transcription system that
you used for transcribing. In your transcript, also provide the line numbers and the names
of the speakers (or their initials). For this assignment, you are not required to indicate the
precise length of pauses (unless you would like to explore this discourse feature later in
your Discourse Analysis Paper). If the interaction is in a language other than English,

conventions introduced in class may be treated as academic offense.Reflection should

observations of the transcript. The reflection may focus on any aspect(s) of discourse of
interest to you.APA references for the external sources you used (e.g., the website where
you found the interaction, resources for transcribing that are provided in Discourse
Transcription and Reflection Module, etc.).Some examples of the transcriptions and symbols
