Anuradha Koirala is a woman from Nepal who started an organization called Maiti Nepal to rescue women and girls from sex trafficking. She was inspired to begin this work after suffering domestic abuse and miscarriages from her own husband. Through Maiti Nepal, she has saved over 12,000 girls from trafficking since 1993. She operates a shelter that provides rescued victims with education, vocational training, counseling, and medical care. In 2010, she won $100,000 as the CNN Hero of the Year for her work saving women from sexual exploitation and abuse.

• Anuradha Koirala was born in Nepal and grew up to be an English teacher at
a primary school at a young age.
• Anuradha Koirala once said, "human trafficking is a heinous crime, the shame
of human nature. She called all together to create a global society, where
there is no longer human trafficking, because "we have to do for our
daughter"
• Anuradha Koirala received domestic violence from her husband and even
made her have three miscarriages. This inspired her to stop sex trafficking
and men abusing women.
• She left her husband in later years and spent her salary of $100 to hire
women to support her in stopping sex trafficking and domestic violence.
• In the early 1990’s, more women needed Anuradha Koirala’s help and she set
up a “House Mother” to help these girls recover.
• Anuradha today is 61 years old and wants to continue her work of saving
children and girls until she dies for it to carry on forever.
