Plan for an adjustment phase and make sure you understand clearly what worked and what didn’t in the minds of your employees pre and during WFH. Old style management won’t work. Leadership and management based on clear accountabilities, communication and a structure and framework that provides an element of freedom and autonomy. Many standard operating practices will be inadequate in a post-COVID world. Establish through collaboration with your team members what to stop, start and continue.

Take time to understand your teams’ communication requirements and develop simple feedback systems to provide clarity and drive results. Create a confidential and anonymous employee feedback loop, publish the results and clearly detail how you will take action. Lack of transparency about progress, contribution and accountabilities at both a business and personal level. Set clear 90-day business objectives and break these down by company, department and individual. Team members not feeling confident or permitted to innovate and improve.   • When something pivots now, unless you put in real effort towards aligning on Purpose, they will fall out of realignment. Eg, if the Government says we are reopening businesses, in just a week or two, within 6 weeks, employees will say, ‘what have you done for me lately’ and it’s forgotten. And their will be in a position where there’s a sense of entitlement while the business.
     
    The greatest thing a business a business can do to give it the greatest odds to thrive in whatever new normal will be, will be to go ahead today and align on a purpose and use that purpose to inform decisions that are made.
