4. WSN
WSN consists of hundreds to millions small,
inexpensive, low-power, distributed devices, which are
capable of local processing and wireless
communication.
These small devices are known as nodes
WE have two types of nodes
Sensing node
Sink node
5. WSNs commonly comprise of tens, hundreds or even
thousands minimal effort, low power and
multifunctional sensor nodes that are deployed in the
sensor fields.
The sensor fields are the area of our interest where we
want to deploy our sensor network. The sensor fields
may range from land, water, mountains, forests,
environment, agriculture, tracking, military and home
monitoring.
These sensor nodes or motes (a sensor node with its
complete architecture) monitor the environment,
collect the data and then pass this data to the BS.
6. They are commonly used for monitoring of
environment based on different parameters
such as pressure ,temperature, direction
speed etc
8. Parts of sensor nodes
Computing : consist of microprocessor used
for controlling senor and executives
communication protocol.
Communication: It consists of a short range
radio which is used to communicate
with neighboring nodes and the
outside world
9. Sensing : It link node to outside world
Power supply: Consist battery supply power to
other parts
10. Application of (WSN)
Wireless sensor network can be use for monitoring
applications in military, medicine, agriculture, industrial,
transportation, environmental and smart home
monitoring.
11. Smart Home Monitoring
Through wsn we can connect all the appliances of our
home like electric lights, alarms, T.V etc. sensing of
movements in any area/room can automatically turn-
on the lights and it can also adjust the temperature of
that room.
Moreover, it also provides us remote monitoring of
residence e.g. we can also control different electrical
appliances by our cell-phone and similarly if the
sensors sense some activity going on at our house then
it can also send us an alarming message/e-mail to our
cell-phone.
13. Environmental application
Air Pollution Monitoring
Wild-Fire/Forest-Fire Detection
Water Quality Monitoring
Snow-Level Monitoring
14. Challenges in WSN
Ad hoc deployment
Unattended operation
Untethered
Energy constrained nature
Routing
15. AREA OF RESEARCH IN WSN
New routing protocol
Data management /agregation
Target tracking
Topology control
Power issues
Mac protocols
Coverage and connectivity
16. We are working to improve the power efficiency by
Clustering
Cluster head selection
Clustering: Dividing the task among the node and making
group of node to perform that task
Cluster head selection: selection of head in cluster so that it may
can communicate with Bs(sink node) rather then cluster.
