Why In-District Services?
Each year, child study teams
struggle to assist classes
overwhelmed by students with
special needs. Schools that lack
the time and resources to offer
quality therapeutic services can
benefit from supplementing in-
district programs. Placing
qualified mental health
professionals in school districts
is crucial for offering convenient,
on-site support that allows
students to achieve growth
while remaining in a familiar
environment.
Offers Early Intervention
In-district programs are key
for identifying the first signs
of academic struggle. State-
approved clinicians use
classroom observations and
extensive documentation to
locate and proactively
address common behaviors
like anxiety, panic attacks,
and school avoidance. The
sooner problems can be
identified, the easier they are
to mitigate. If left unchecked,
issues can become more
severe and require intensive
treatment.
Reduces Out-of-District Placements
In-district programs aim to make students
feel accepted in their own community.
Auxiliary professionals work with schools to
minimize the need for out-of-district
placements, assisting by:
• Prescribing treatment that is in line with
specific areas of importance at individual
institutions.
• Providing training and support to
existing school personnel.
• Coordinating care with third-party
practices.
• Offering flexible hours to facilitate family
counseling.

With in-district
specialists in place,
there are fewer delays
in the recovery process.
Frequent on-site
supervision affords a
fast response time to
foster ongoing
development for
troubled students.
Having a professional
team on hand can also
minimize risk of student
decompensation and
provide immediate help
in crisis situations.
Supports School Faculty
Many in-district programs hire licensed
clinical social workers, counselors, and
psychologists that have experience in
both public and charter school settings.
In-district staff are specially trained to
help school faculty and administration
with day-to-day needs, such as:
• Leading presentations and training
for school personnel.
• Creating curriculum designed to
meet needs of both student and
district.
• Providing psychoeducation for
parents and guardians.

Discouraged
students often need
a trusted supervisor
to confide in. In
many cases, this
need is met with
individual
counseling. In-
district staff can
provide one-on-one
treatment to create
a consistent support
system that urges
optimal results.
Assists with Group Therapy
In-district counselors work
extensively with other school
personnel and educators when
considering the personal, social,
emotional, and academic well-
being of each student. For some
students, a combination of
individual and group therapy can
achieve desired results. In group
counseling, students learn from
and gain support from one
another, which can be a very
effective way for teens to explore
their needs and emotions.
Designed to Work with Families
In-district specialists
also have the resources
to work closely with
students’ families. This
helps extend the
therapeutic relationship
from school sessions to
the home. Many
professionals will even
make time after school
hours or on weekends in
order to meet varied
schedules.
Sage Day is a network of therapeutic institutions located in northern New Jersey.
We provide an alternative learning environment for students who struggle with low
academic performance due to emotional challenges. In addition to leading several
New Jersey campuses, we also offer Sage Day In-District Services to fill the gap in
service between traditional in-school support and out-of-district placement. We
have experience with running a successful institution and know how to integrate
support into every school day.

The Benefits of Using In-District Programs and Services

  • 2. Why In-District Services? Each year, child study teams struggle to assist classes overwhelmed by students with special needs. Schools that lack the time and resources to offer quality therapeutic services can benefit from supplementing in- district programs. Placing qualified mental health professionals in school districts is crucial for offering convenient, on-site support that allows students to achieve growth while remaining in a familiar environment.
  • 3. Offers Early Intervention In-district programs are key for identifying the first signs of academic struggle. State- approved clinicians use classroom observations and extensive documentation to locate and proactively address common behaviors like anxiety, panic attacks, and school avoidance. The sooner problems can be identified, the easier they are to mitigate. If left unchecked, issues can become more severe and require intensive treatment.
  • 4. Reduces Out-of-District Placements In-district programs aim to make students feel accepted in their own community. Auxiliary professionals work with schools to minimize the need for out-of-district placements, assisting by: • Prescribing treatment that is in line with specific areas of importance at individual institutions. • Providing training and support to existing school personnel. • Coordinating care with third-party practices. • Offering flexible hours to facilitate family counseling.
  • 5. Creates Convenient On-Site Support With in-district specialists in place, there are fewer delays in the recovery process. Frequent on-site supervision affords a fast response time to foster ongoing development for troubled students. Having a professional team on hand can also minimize risk of student decompensation and provide immediate help in crisis situations.
  • 6. Supports School Faculty Many in-district programs hire licensed clinical social workers, counselors, and psychologists that have experience in both public and charter school settings. In-district staff are specially trained to help school faculty and administration with day-to-day needs, such as: • Leading presentations and training for school personnel. • Creating curriculum designed to meet needs of both student and district. • Providing psychoeducation for parents and guardians.
  • 7. Uses an Individualized Approach Discouraged students often need a trusted supervisor to confide in. In many cases, this need is met with individual counseling. In- district staff can provide one-on-one treatment to create a consistent support system that urges optimal results.

Assists with Group Therapy In-district counselors work extensively with other school personnel and educators when considering the personal, social, emotional, and academic well- being of each student. For some students, a combination of individual and group therapy can achieve desired results. In group counseling, students learn from and gain support from one another, which can be a very effective way for teens to explore their needs and emotions.
  • 9. Designed to Work with Families In-district specialists also have the resources to work closely with students’ families. This helps extend the therapeutic relationship from school sessions to the home. Many professionals will even make time after school hours or on weekends in order to meet varied schedules.
