I am so glad that the annual magazine is being published this year. An annual magazine is always
the face of the school. It brings out the best of the performances of our children and staff. It is a
historical document of the year. I imagine the pride with which our children would take copies of the
magazine home to reminisce and to celebrate.
Let me wish you the very best.
A Jesuit school is characterized by the compassionate commitment it promotes in the staff and the
children. I thank you for the same virtue that I see manifested in St. Joseph’s Junior School.
God bless you.

I am very happy to know that the IVth issue of the magazine “JJ2015 Scintilla” is going to be
published. I am very happy to observe that with each issue of our school magazine, the quality
and standard of the magazine is improving. It is a very positive sign for the school. Now that the
first batch of ICSE students have written their board exams, the school has become a full fledged
I know the difficulty of bringing out a school magazine . While the children are eager to
contribute articles, stories , poems, and drawings, a lot of effort is required to edit them so that
they can be published. I congratulate the editor and the editorial team for their work .
The school magazine is a reflection of the life of the school .The school has been steadily growing
and there is a lot of positive energy in the school. I am sure that the magazine will reflect this
positive dimension of the school.
My good wishes and greetings to all teachers, students and readers of the magazine.

Greetings to you.
Every school is a store house of creative minds. Each and every child is born with
a spark of creativity in them. When the endeavor has been started to promulgate
the issue of this year’s school magazine, I could decipher our children’s creative
inner flame. Our children lack the empirical experience to express their creativity in a fine
language. Hence it’s our responsibility to propel them into the realm of imagination.
To an extent, we are successful in providing such an atmosphere to our children. I presume
that our whole hearted attempt to ignite the spark of creativity in a few children has been
fruitful. Our efforts were really like a key to unleash their creativity.
It is our immense pleasure to present you, the spark in creative writing, ‘SCINTILLA’,
the school magazine of the year 2014-15. Our children’s creative ideas give life to this
On behalf of the editorial board, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone
who has worked for the birth of ‘SCINTILLA’.

Respected Fathers, Sisters, beloved parents, friends,
teachers and my dear children
St. Joseph’s Junior School is a small but beautiful school.
The attractive school garden, the pleasant and welcoming
atmosphere of the school campus, the freedom and energy
in the staff and students give this school its unique image.
Students are the school. They are positive, disciplined and
energetic. Master Abith Jerry is the School Leader and
Master Hamdan Becker is the Asst. School Leader. I thank
them for their good leadership.
This is a very important year for our school. Our first batch
of 29 students is going to appear for the ICSE Board Exam,
starting on Feb.27th. ICSE is comparatively a more difficult
exam. Being the first batch it has been a big challenge
for my teachers to prepare them for the exam. I am very
grateful to my teachers for the great effort they have put in.
The parents are only silent spectators. We are all united in
our prayer to God to bless our students and the school with
a good result.
The school is facing a crisis. We have a good rush for
admission to U.K.G and the lower classes. But the attraction
of SSLC is very strong with parents and students. Hence a
good number of students want to leave the school after Std
Four and Std Seven. This creates a problem for the school
as we are forced to run the higher classes with a single
incomplete section. Our great effort has to be, to improve
the quality of the school so that the children will love to
complete their studies in the school.
The life in the school is monotonous. Celebrations break
this monotony. Children enjoy them more than others. All
our school functions are celebrations. Our school calendar
is filled with celebrations. There is at least one major
celebration every term.
The feast of St. Ignatius Loyola was celebrated on 30th
July. Rev. Fr K.T. Devasia, Principal of St. Joseph’s Higher
Secondary School, gave a message to the children.
Onam is the festival of Kerala. We conducted flower carpet
competition, Mahabali fancy dress competition and Special
games. We distributed Payasam. Students and staff enjoyed
the whole day.
This year, Onam Celebration and Teachers’ Day were kept
on Sept. 5th. Guru Vandanam was the important part of
Teachers’ Day celebration. The PTA gave a gift to every
member of the school staff. Dr P.V. Narayanan was the Chief
Guest for the Teachers’ Day Celebration.
JJ Fest, our Annual Cultural Meet was conducted on 18th
and 19th Sept. The competitions were held on 4 stages. The
two days of the meet were enjoyed by all the children. The
competitions were conducted house wise. My teachers have
good expertise in organizing it. Kumari Rithika, Soorya T V
Reality Show Singer was the chief Guest.
We celebrated Christmas on19th December, the last working
day of the second term. We had class wise and common
celebrations. Fr Vimal Francis, the Asst. Priest, Mother of
God Cathedral, gave the Christmas message. The Santa Claus
distributed gifts to the lucky ones. As part of our celebration,
we went to Sneha Bhavan with Sweets and Cash gift. We
also hosted lunch to the inmates of St. Vincent’s home.
The School Annual Sports Meet was well conducted on
27th and 28th of November. Mr K.J. Mathai, the President,
District Sports Council, was the Chief Guest. He greatly
appreciated the inaugural ceremony, the march past, the
Olympic flame and the football display. We have coaching
for foot ball, cricket and athletics. Unfortunately, the great
effort of our School P E T, Mr Deepak Lal, does not bear the
desired fruit because the students’ participation thins out
during the year. My sincere thanks to Mr Deepak Lal for all
the efforts he puts in.
This year we decided to give our children an exposure to
outside competitions. Accordingly, we took part in the
different Cultural and Sports Competitions conducted by
the Zonal and All Kerala ICSE School Associations.
Three of our students, Master Vivek Govind, Renolt Tom and
David George, took part in All Kerala Shuttle Tournament
in Ernakulam, and Master Vivek Govind was selected to
represent the Kerala Team in Bengaluru, for the National
Competition. Master Joswin Tom took part in District Shuttle
Master Adnan N.M. got 1st prize in District Fencing
Competition and took part in State Level Competition.

Competition in Bengaluru. Master Gautham Krishna got
third place in the State Kalarippayatu Competition in
Master Jacob Sebastian took part in the All Kerala Amateur
Athletic Competition for long jump. Master Anantha
Krishnan and Gautham Krishna took part in the Amateur
Athletic Competition in Ernakulam.
We took part in the ICSE Zonal Youth Festival, held at I.C.E.T

There is no dearth of activities in the school. Different school
Clubs animate the life of the school. All the clubs, namely,
Science , Maths, Social Studies, Literary, Music, Sports and
Eco clubs are involved in conducting at least one program
in the year .Science club organized a special program
Sastrabodham to create an awareness about the common
myths among people and the role of science in daily life.
They conducted a special assembly on World Anti Narcotics
The Social Studies Club organized the Independence Day
Celebrations in an impressive way. They conducted a quiz
competition on Indian History. They arranged a field trip.
The members cleaned the campus on Gandhi Jayanthi.
The Eco Club organized world Environmental Day. They
planted plantains, papayas and vegetables in the limited
space available. The Staff and students enjoyed the sweet
taste of the first plantain and papayas.
The Sports Club conducted a quiz competition on world
cup – football. An inter house football tournament was
conducted by them .
Vayana Dinam in the school was conducted by the Literary
Club. They conducted a literary quiz and also drawing and
hand writing competitions.
Ramanujan Day was celebrated by the Maths Club and
World Music Day by the Music Club.
Education is incomplete without a study tour. This year on
Nov. 27th all the classes went for study tours to different
idyllic parts of Kerala. Tenth standard students enjoyed
their first major tour to Hyderabad from Sept.28th to Oct
As part of our co -curricular activities, we have dance,
guitar and key – board classes. We introduced Smart
Class rooms this year. Mr. Ashique is the coordinator of
the program. Teachers and Students seem to appreciate
the smart classes. I thank Mr. Ashique for his help. This
year, we started Abacus, coaching in Chess and SUPW
( Socially Useful and Productive Work). A class room is
filled with the artifacts made by children. The students
of standards nine and ten conducted a food fest as
part of this training. The School has a trained student
Counsellor this year for group and individual counselling.
The School has a very helpful and active P T A. It plays an
important part in the life of the school. We had our General
Body Meeting on June 28th and Dr Balakrishnan
Nambiar addressed the parents. Mr Rasheed Ali
was elected President and Mrs Fathima ,Vice
– President. The Executive Committee meets
every month to help in the running of the
school. The President has taken a very keen
and active interest in all the activities and is
very helpful. I express my sincere gratitude
to Mr Rasheed Ali and to all the members
of the Executive Committee.
This is a well run school. The full credit
goes to my teaching and non-teaching
staff. They are the back bone of the
school. They plan, organize and execute every activity
and program of the school. The school has developed a
system of committees. All the committees work well and
are very carefully monitored by Br Bastin. Today’s School
Day Program is totally the work of my teachers from A to
Z. We have student volunteers who help the teachers in
conducting all the functions. There are two Vice Principals,
Mrs Leeshma and Br Bastin. Their efficiency is the key to
the remarkable functioning of the school. Br. Bastin is due
to go for his Theology next year. We will miss his creative
dynamism. The School wishes him well. I express my sincere
gratitude to all my teaching and non teaching staff for all
their support, help and cooperation.
Our school comes directly under the Provincial, Fr M.K.
George. This is our first school day after he took charge as
Provincial. I am very confident that our school will climb
to new heights under his guidance. On behalf of the whole
school, I express my sincere gratitude to you for accepting
to be our Chief Guest today. You are an eminent educationist
and my children are eagerly waiting to hear you. Mr K.
Aboobacker is a friend of St. Joseph’s Higher Secondary
School. Sir, we are very grateful to you for coming to give the
key –note address. I am grateful to my Manager , Fr Pious
Vachaparambil for his guidance and to our ward Councillor
Mrs Jean Moses.
Dear Parents, you are the strength of this school. It is your
support and generosity that has brought up our
school to this level. You have given me
whole hearted support in developing
this institution. I am very grateful to
you. My children have prepared an
enjoyable evening for you today.
Your presence is an encouragement
for them. Please stay till the end of
St. Joseph is the heavenly
