 Size: Size is the relationship of one shape to another.

 Color: Color has three main characteristics: hue or its name (red, green,
blue, etc.), value (how light or dark it is), and intensity (how bright or dull it
is).

6. Alignment refers to how text and graphics are placed on the page. Alignment creates
order, organizes page elements, indicates groups of items, and emphasizes visual
connection. Interestingly, good alignment is rarely noticed by the reader, while
misalignment is immediately detected. There are two basic types of alignment: edge and
center. Edges can be aligned along the top, bottom, left or right. Center alignment can be
either horizontal or vertical. When designing a page, be sure that each element (text,
graphics, photographs) has a visual alignment with another item.

7. Contrast
Contrast adds interest as well as organization to the page, and is created
when two elements are different. Common ways to create contrast include
varying size, color, thickness, shape, style or space. The greater the
difference between elements, the greater the contrast. Besides adding
interest to the page, contrast can be used to direct the reader around the
page and to emphasize importance or differences. Contrast is only effective
when it is evident.
Contrast happens when there is a difference between the two opposing
design elements. The most common types of contrast are dark vs. light,
contemporary vs. old-fashioned, large vs. small, etc. Contrast guides a
viewer’s attention to the key elements, ensuring each side is legible.
Ways to create contrast through different elements
● Color: Changes in hue, value, and intensity
● Tone/Value: Darker or lighter shades of color
● Size/Shape: Size of text, images, and objects

9. A layout is the play in placement of given text and suitable images on a given surface
area. Layouts can be classified in three categories:
• Text Dominant
• Image Dominant
• Image and Text
Text Dominant: If there is too much or large text then it will have to be text dominated.
But from the layout point of view the headline could be used in large display fonts
occupying more area if that creates the desired effect.
Image Dominant: These layouts are seen regularly in our newspapers and magazines,
where a picture of a celebrity takes center stage or the product is shown in all its glory
like in most automobile advertisements.
Image and Text: In these types of layouts, image and text are used in equal measure, and
given a balanced exposure.
