Learning frameworks portfolio project
1. Ryan Tillett
Major- Grayson College- General Studies, SOSU- OSHA
Personal Affirmation- I am an intelligent, humbled, strong man and I am
dedicated to better myself, so that I may better those close to me.
Biblical Affirmation- I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
2. Top Three Class Assignments
ā¢ 1. Service Learning Project- This project at itās core allowed for me to help others
by giving my time and labor. I worked with Meals on Wheels in Collin County, and
saw what hard work it takes to support those in need in the community. This was
a humbling experience that helped me grow as a person.
ā¢ 2. Goal Setting Assignment- Goals are set objectives that we set out to
accomplish, and are vital to everyone looking to improve themselves. Goals are
also great way to organize what you want to achieve in life. This assignment also
allowed for me to prioritize what is important now and where my focuses should
be.
ā¢ 3. Journals- The journals as we all know can get extremely personal, which allows
for introspection into ourselves. They are philosophical in nature, and require you
to ask questions about yourself that you would not normally contemplate or ask. I
think this is a great exercise to hash out personal conflicts, set goals, organize
priorities, and improve your overall quality of life.
3. Top Three Favorite Journals
ā¢ Self Assessment- I always enjoy taking self assessment surveys in general so naturally this
appealed to my liking. I find them interesting because they are usually not accurate with
me for I think a number of reasons. I think some of the fault of inaccuracy lies with me,
as I overthink the questions completely. Still, I find them interesting and fun to think
about.
ā¢ Chapter 2 Journal Entry- In this journal entry we had a conversation with our inner critic
and inner guide regarding various topics. I found throughout this journal that I am quite
pessimistic. I knew that I was a pessimist before the exercise, but I found my inner critic
to be negative to the point where it was not healthy. I think realizing your flaws is a good
thing, but you need to realize the good you bring as well, which the journal highlighted
for me.
ā¢ Ending Self Assessment- I was looking forward to this journal to see if or how much my
self assessment had changed from the beginning semester. The areas of which I was
most critical of before had mostly improved from the previous assessment which I was
happy to see. I worked hard this semester, and this assessment made me realize that I
realize how I did, which is a positive for me.
4. Favorite Module
ā¢ Module 4 How People Learn- This was my favorite module, because if
Iām not mistaken this is when we were introduce to Dr. Chew, whom
we got to know very well throughout the semester. Also in the video
he discusses the best way to learn, and discusses the idea of deep
thinking. This is a philosophical approach to learning that I found
interesting as well as true, and helpful in life and my college career.
5. Lessons For Next Semester
ā¢ First and foremost I will take away from this class, what my goals are.
There will be tough, stressful times ahead, but I need to remember
why Iām doing all this hard work. Goals are way to keep your priorities
straight.
ā¢ Secondly I will make an active effort to think positively about myself
and my accomplishments. I need to realize that I am trying to better
myself, and to only look forward.
ā¢ Third I will take away Dr. Chewās deep thinking. I think this is a way to
think critically about what you are learning. If you can think critically
about something, then you will have a better understanding of the
thing.
6. Self Assessment Scores
ā¢ Category Before After
ā¢ Accepting Personal Responsibility 74 71
ā¢ Discovering Self-Motivation 74 76
ā¢ Mastering Self-Management 38 51
ā¢ Employing Interdependence 40 42
ā¢ Gaining Self-Awareness 44 55
ā¢ Adopting Lifelong Learning 56 47
ā¢ Developing Emotional Intelligence 51 61
ā¢ Believing in Myself 54 42
ā¢ As I mentioned before I am my own biggest critic. What I need to focus on is now and
going forward is action. I know what I need to do. I know what my goals are. Part of
taking responsibility is changing what it was you were doing wrong. Mere reflection is
not enough. Now I have to work hard and achieve the goals that I have set for myself.
7. Goals and Dreams
ā¢ Graduating from SOSU with a Bachelor degree in OSHA in three
semesters, and a summer semester.
ā¢ Landing a job within three months of graduating.
ā¢ Having a baby in the near future
8. Why Accomplish My Goals and Dreams
ā¢ If I accomplish my goals and dreams I would have a college degree, a less
stressful job. Iād be financially secure. I would have a confidence knowing
that I accomplished something great. I would be able to be an example for
my future kids.
ā¢ I would have a new house in the future. I would have weekends off to
spend time with family, and more of a social life. I would work, spend time
with family and be able to better myself in other ways.
ā¢ I would be working as a safety officer for a company. I would be able to
make a better living financially and adequately able to support a family.
ā¢ My wife would be there with me, and hopefully two healthy children in the
near future.
