This presentation was after a showing of Robot & Frank and Livermore, CA public library. The point of the session was to explore AI basics and discuss the potential of the movie coming true.
2. • Member company at the downtown startup incubator i-Gate
• Computer Science & Mathematics major from Regis University
• Past member of the singularity institute advisory board - seed
for singularity university
• Developer of an “AI” software development toolkit based on
genetic algorithms
• Leveraging “AI” in a real-world application
• Author on the subject of text, voice, and object recognition
technology
• Philosopher and theorist – not a scientist
• Not a robot, but wish I was
a Pragmatic AI Optimist
3. • Better sense of what AI is
• Explore the various movements and forms of AI
• Contemplate what “Intelligence” means
• Call out ways AI impacts us today
• Speculate on the future
My Goal
4. You have been tricked!
Artificial Intelligence is a horrible term
5. Why the trick works
We are wired to spot … Human-ness
16. The Turing Test
• Some of being human is un-intelligent
• Can you simulate consciousness?
• Reverse Turing test
• The anthropomorphic fallacy
17. Problems
• We created it – Gödel's Incompleteness Theorem
• Real use cases are sparse
• Spies
• Companions
• Infrastructure
• Power?
• Internet Speeds?
• Data Storage
• Economical Feasibility
• The human brain has a 1 million times more
computational power than the standard laptop
18. Thought Experiment
Estimate Sensory Input at:
3.2 MB/s Video and Audio
2.3 MB/s Touch
2.3 MB/s Temperature
2 MB/s Olfactory
Over a 16 hour day consisting of 57,600 seconds. IF:
Store 10% of just sensory data
55 GB a day
20 TB a year
1.5 PB over avg. life
Store 100% of just sensory data
551 GB a day
196 TB a Year
15 PB over avg. life
.000012 PB (brain) + .19 x age
19. Key Trans-humanism Figures
- Invented text recognition
(OCR)
- A founder of Singularity U
- Brain scanning – Download
your brain to the cloud
- Author of ”The age of
spiritual machines”
- Literally living trans-
humanism
- Find his TED talk
Dr. Natash Vita-More
Ray Kurzweil Aubrey de Grey
20. Life extension is not
Transhumanism
“In the past 200 years avg
lifespan has doubled from 40
to nearly 80 years”
Argument: Everything
Decays
Mitochondria
Rejuvenation
Better cell duplication
Lysosome
21. My Opinion
• Humans and AI will always be integrated.
And it wont be considered artificial.
• The most advanced AI will not come in
human form.
• Mind blowing technology is already here.
• We need the Kurzweil's of the world.
• We will experience many human to
human tragedies before we see a single
robot to humans one.
