Monetizing the edge continues to be a top priority for telcos, and not a day goes by where we don’t have a meaningful conversation on the topic with a telco partner. While the edge’s killer app continues to elude the industry, private mobile networks and video analytics are quickly becoming the critical building blocks for bringing it to market – whatever it is.
So where can you learn more about monetizing the edge? The TM Forum Digital Transformation World Series 2021 provides a collaborative environment for operators and suppliers to come together, share ideas, and solve the industry’s toughest problems. Microsoft is an active participant in this year’s event, sharing best practices, successes, and industry insights across wide-ranging areas including edge, artificial intelligence, cloud transformation, and customer experience.

Monetizing the edge continues to be a top priority for telcos, and not a day goes by where we don’t have a
meaningful conversation on the topic with a telco partner. While the edge’s killer app continues to elude the
industry, private mobile networks and video analytics are quickly becoming the critical building blocks for bringing
it to market – whatever it is.
So where can you learn more about monetizing the edge? The TM Forum Digital
Transformation World Series 2021 provides a collaborative environment for
operators and suppliers to come together, share ideas, and solve the industry’s
toughest problems. Microsoft is an active participant in this year’s event, sharing

2. MICROSOFT IN TELECOM
Optimize your private mobile network and accelerate innovation with
hyperscale cloud
The convergence of 5G, multi-access edge computing (MEC), and the cloud
make it possible for operators, managed service providers, and enterprises to
create private wireless networks that are ultra-fast, secure, and scalable and
that can take advantage of powerful cloud applications for analytics.
Bringing the Power of Hyperscale to Operator-Enabled Private Mobile
Networks
Key features in 5G, such as the cloud-friendly Service Based Architecture
(SBA) and network slicing, will enable low-latency communications (URLLC),
massive machine type communications (mMTC), and time-sensitive
networking (TSN), which will allow operators to offer new services oriented to
the developers of high-performance industrial applications and empower the
introduction of new, disruptive commercial models
Deploying Private Mobile Networks on Azure
Private LTE/5G networks give businesses the speed, security, mobility, and
quality of service they need to process data efficiently, while edge compute
supports latency-sensitive industrial applications, data localization, and data
processing at the edge.
3. Video analytics at the edge, an ideal technology for 5G cloud
monetization
In this blog, we focus on video, the dominant traffic type on the internet
since the introduction of 4G networks. With 5G, not only will the volume of
video traffic increase, but there will also be many new solutions for
industries, from retail to manufacturing to healthcare and forest
monitoring, infusing deep learning and AI for video analytics scenarios. The
symbiotic evolution of video analytics and edge computing provides
opportunities for operators to offer new services which they can monetize
with their customers.
The Evolution of Public Cloud to Support Telco Network Functions
Over the last few years, the technology used by network operators to build
network functions virtualization (NFV) infrastructure has evolved quite
successfully to address the mission of NFV, namely to replace physical network
appliances with virtual ones. But network operators have learned first-hand that
building and operating this kind of NFV infrastructure is difficult and costly and
that the right mission for the softwarization of their networks is not
virtualization but cloudification.

5 essential business outcomes for media and telco organizations
Over the past 18 months, organizations in media & entertainment and
telecommunications turned to digital technologies for the resilience and agility
necessary to maintain business continuity and, in many instances, simply
survive. With a host of lessons now learned—and with a marketplace that has
been forever changed—the urgency for these two industries to continue to
transform at scale has never been greater.
Using scenario driven methods to teach about 5G, AI and the Edge
In this post, Ajit Jaokar will explain how we are using Microsoft LEARN to
teach concepts of 5G. I hope the wider edtech community can benefit from
our experience. I also welcome your feedback, especially if you plan to
teach 5G from an Enterprise perspective.
