2. A longtime resident of New York City and the inspiration
for Ray Romano’s older brother in the hit series “Everybody

With a rich tradition of academic excellence structured
around Vincentian traditions, St. John’s University strives
to educate the mind and spirit of its student body through
academic rigor and social service. To that end, St. John’s
University has maintained a unique relationship with St.
John’s Bread and Life Soup Kitchen, providing students
with opportunities to deepen their understanding of
poverty and develop a community of stewardship.
3. In order to make an impact in the communities
most in need, the St. John’s Bread and Life Mobile
Soup Kitchen travels to select sites throughout
Brooklyn each Monday. Guided by a Campus
Ministry Graduate Assistant, a group of 12 to 30
students gets the opportunity to build
connections with each other and individuals from
underserved communities, and reflect on
connecting faith to actions. Sponsored by St.
John’s University, the Soup Kitchen and Mobile
Soup Kitchen are responsible for distributing
more than 1,000 meals every day.
