The class learned what elements a detailed picture needs, such as colors, neatness, and details. Students then orally constructed Halloween-themed sentences which they wrote using phonetic spelling, adding punctuation afterward. Each student met with the teacher to discuss their writing and picture. The document lists what costumes the students drew pictures of.

2. As a class we learned what a detailed
picture needs to have. We created
expectations or a criteria chart about
colors, neatness and details.
The next day students orally
constructed a sentence of what they
would be on Halloween. We counted the
words as a class. Students then wrote a
sentence using POPCORN words and kid
writing to spell. Mrs. Williams met with
each child to talk about their writing
and picture. During this time students
added a period to their sentence.
