3. Research
⢠The research really helped me as it really opened all my ideas and I could full research everything about my
product and go into serious detail. I spent a lot of time on my research to make sure it was super clear I did this
near the beginning so that I new exactly what I was doing and where my strongest ideas could come from.
Obviously through the whole thing some ideas I had weren't doable or as I did them didnât really do what I wanted
them to do but it didnât stray far from the original plan. I wrote so much to make sure that I had analysed every
ingle inch I could. With my audience research I did a survey which really didnât help that much as the people who
answered were people in my class who didnât really have and idea about my style, also my magazine wasnât
sexiest but it did aim more to females then males and I only had one girl in my class to ask so the results weren't
really even as more boys answered that girls. This was a set back as it meant I didnât have enough primary data to
work with only what I might know from past things I have done and how they might work with this one. I said in
one of the research that it is for both boys and girls but the more I got into the magazine it ended up going the
other way and been more for girls which is a downside to my research as I didnât follow it as strong as I should of,
but this doesnât mean that lads cant read it its just a little bit more girly than predicted. In some of the research it
benefited the styles in my work like the intimacy. At first I wanted to do a really up to beat song with some footage
that didnât really mean anything but I thought would look good but with the timing and the little help I got to
make the video it ended you been all on me and the little images I could scrape up. So the video ended up been
really random but in the while aspect I said its going to link to the lyrics which it does, the songs about been alone
and then fining friends so there's clips of me and others been alone but then been together at the end of it all.
⢠I believe if I was to do it again I could definitely followed the ropes I was going to and could have followed the
ideas I had in my research by been a little more organised with my over all video, for example I would have made
sure my musician was there when I needed him and that I did the video first instead of last. I thought that getting
all the easy stuff out the way would have been better but the main thing then had less time and I couldnât fit in all
my ideas in that time.
⢠Qualitative quantitative primary and secondary data talk about that I didnât get many responses strengths
weaknesses and what you could do to change the weaknesses
4. Planning
⢠The researched wasnât a big help for me, I already had a clear path I
wanted to go down with my own project. If It was something where
it was a set thing you had to do I would have thought the research
would have helped as it could be something I had no clue about,
but with this I had a strong idea so it wasnât a big thing throughout
the whole project. The only thing that my research helped with
was been able to write down exactly what I was going to do so that
it was clear in my mind and it was there in front of me because I
struggle to follow ideas without stepping off track so to have that
there made me stick to my idea more. I feel like I could have
considered ideas a lot more if I had not already. One thing that
really frustrated me was all the ideas were decent and I spent a lot
of time deciding which one should be the best because I wanted
this final project to be perfect so ended up been a back track.
5. Time Management
⢠I really did manage my time well everything was getting done well I was
finishing power points on time until it got up to the part where I had to start
considering my music video, previous to starting the song I asked a friend if he
could do the guitar part to my song which was a simple 4 chord part but he
each week he was forgetting to come to the studio to record so I was wanting
valuable time waiting around for him, knowing I had to get this done I
messaged my cousin who also bailed on me last minute. Knowing I had to get
a musician quick I asked around and finally found someone who could help me
out and then I finally got it done but at this point it was very late I realised
then I had to go back through my work and make major changes as the song
wasnât how I wanted it and the person I was supposed to have in my video
didnât show up, I had to make up a full new video from somewhere again not
what I was wanting but it the end I finally caught up but my work wasnât up to
the standards I set myself which could have definitely been done if people
were honest with me and showed up to help me with what I needed them to,
if they had my time would have been perfect and so would all my products.
6. Technical Qualities
The similarities between them is that they both have pictures of the
performing artists and the name written below them to identify them. They
also have tour dates and where there going to be at. They also both
advertise the single or album underneath.
The differences are that
there both different
styles Rhianna's is more
pinkie glow and mine
more raw rough touch
also there's loads of
tours for me and only
one on Rihanna's. My
single cover is a lot
bigger than Rihanna's
and mine doesn't look as
clean and crisp as
Rihanna's either.
7. Technical
Qualities
The similarities of these is the
colour theme and the large main
picture to show the artist also
they both have a tone of writing
about the artist. At quick glance
you can see there is a likeness to
them both.
The differences are that I
have used my single cover
and a picture with a singer
that was on x factor to make
it more realistic. I also added
a snapchat code so that fans
could add the artist.
8. Technical
Qualities
Both the artists are looking fierce and diva
like. Both the magazines have the name of the
artist just below them and writing underneath
they both have writing about other things on
the magazine and a date on the release.
On mine it has a lot
more to it as it has
social media links
web address deals
some magazines
put more on to
make it seem busy
and some like to
take the
contemporary
route like the rolling
stones magazine.
9. Technical Qualities
Both of the single covers have a 4
figures on them mine been more
linked to something than the
other but yet again 4 black figures
on a plain background with the
title on it.
The differences are that the
shapes are clearly different and in
a different order also the colour
scheme is more brighter and soft
compared to mine which is more
raw and fiery also I have both the
title and the artist on mine in
bigger frontage
10. Aesthetic
Qualities
I think that the fancy
writing to sat the artists
name really emphasises it
to make it look like the
name for a female artist
and then to have the rest to
e in big bold states like a
thing that the artist is
female but that doesnât
make her week she still is
strong. The use of the
single cover as a way to get
people to come is a
common thing for new
artists to do which makes it
relevant to real artists. I like
that I have done the same
background as the concert
poster to make it link as
well
I donât like that the
single cover is on the
same background as
its background as it
makes it really hard
to see even with the
grey outlining I gave
it also I think the
picture could have
been better edited I
could have done that
by going round with
the eraser to make
the edges neat and
tidy. I think the in
concert is too close
to the Rachel-Marie
and could be moved
down a little more.
11. Aesthetic Qualities
I like how there is a main picture as itâs a good
way to grab peoples attention to who it is
about as most people will look at pictures
before writing. I also like how there is a
starting paragraph to help people get into it
more.
I like how there is the snapchat code to make
it seem like there is a real feel about it, I also
like how all the writing is in line and neatly laid
out which makes it easier to read and follow.
I would maybe make the background a little
lighter as it looks like a little bit of a dirty
colour and could be more crisp
I think the black outline makes the white
stand out really well and that gives it a little
bit of layer also the black and white writing is
plain but effective as it stands out but also
matches the dress in the picture making links.
I think maybe the main title may have been
better as a different colour cos it might have
given it I little bit more colour that could have
lifted the page instead of just been black and
white but still does look good and it doesnât
look out of place but I think it could look a
little bit more jazzy.
12. Aesthetic
Qualities
When I look at this I definitely see a magazine, you can
clearly tell what it is which is always a god start. I like how
there's enough going on but not too much that you cant
concentrate.
I think the puffs are really effective and make it very much
like a women's magazine but with the layout and the writing
styles it gives a weird sense of rock and roll which can state
itâs a magazine for wider ranges of music other than pop.
I like how the title goes behind the head it gives the effect
of the artist lifting off the page and shows the artist some
importance in a subliminal way.
The use of the red/pink makes it female but puts in your
head hot and sexy as red is the colour for passion and
sexiness which also links into the artist who is very much a
diva . The red is used very evenly across the page which
makes it have a pattern and evens out the post.
The fact the background is black and white really helps as it
means most colours will look good on the background as
black and white are match colours meaning you can put
them with most other colours and it will except.
If am really honest I cant think of much I could improve I am
really happy with this piece of work and think it works well.
If anything it would be make the bar code a little smaller
and sort out the editing or the eyes as itâs a little messy.
13. Aesthetic
QualitiesI enjoy the simple cover its nothing too extreme but
and the same time easily linkable to the song and the
name of it âwildernessâ as the foot prints of these
wild animals are from the wilderness. I like how the
writing is bold and feels like it is stating something, in
some ways saying it isnât all airy fairy itâs a hard world
so it needs hard lined writing. The black paws on the
orange background brings back nostalgia from my
child hood with the jungle book when mogly does a
puppet show about the tiger and with that been a
wild story I think it links well but has some kind of
reminiscence about it
I think that there could have been a little bit more but
at the same time I donât know if this would of spoiled
it so at this moment in time I donât think there is
much I would want to change.
14. Audience Appeal
The bright colour of the poster is appealing to the younger
generation would like as it isn't dull. I said in my research
that I was going to make it colourful to attract the younger
generation so I followed it through in my work. The bold
black writing stands out well on the background. The
reason I chose the fiery orange as my background was
because my single cover was also this, with the
connection makes it more recognisable as people who
would have seen the single or own the single will see the
bright orange. This will subliminally make them notice it
as its the same as the single cover, drawing them to look
and read. This will help appeal to a younger audience as
younger people have busy lives with school college and
university this means that they are constantly on the
move, having something that jumps out will very quickly
grab their attention. With my quantitative data from the
questionnaire I can see that 100% of them that answered
like music so they would definitely read something about
music.
15. Audience Appeal
The large picture definitely captures the
audience as it stands out and is the first
thing that captures your attention.
Because it is pink it may attract females
more than males but definitely is for
both. In my questionnaire I didnât ask
anything about my magazine which
would have been more helpful but it was
just a weakness I had , if I had of asked I
probably would have had something to
work against but because I didnât I had to
do it based on general knowledge and
questionnaires from other magazine
products I have done. The snapchat logo
will appeal to the younger generation as
most of the younger people will have the
app and it will mean they can follow
their favourite artist. Because the writing
is in chunks it doesnât look like there is a
lot of writing which appeals to most
young people as they donât enjoy reading
large amounts of writing.
16. Audience
Appeal
The bright colours and the large mid shot image is the first thing that will
stand out to my audience. The pink and reds are vibrant colours that the
eye spots very quickly as it is a dominant colour, which mean your eyes will
spot this easily. The black and white stand out as well on the black clothing
of the artist, this is also a very appealing aspect as it will catch the eye as it
pops out the page against the black. The white block at the bottom will
sure catch anyone's attention and is a big block of white on black again,
this will make the younger audience look to see what it is and therefore
read the writing on it. Younger generations will like deals as in high school,
college and university students donât have extravagant amounts of money
they will try and catch deals where ever they can find them. This will
appeal as the magazine is only cheap and has lots of great offers for them.
Also in the higher left of the magazine there is chance to win tickets to see
the voice, as many student will (as already said) like deals this will also be a
great thing to lure someone in as they may be able to get there hands on
some tickets and not have to pay anything (this could even attract older
people as a secondary audience that like a good âbargainâ.) There is some
social media logos on the bottom this will be a great appeal to the younger
generation as most if not all young people living in the UK (where the
magazine would be distributed) will have some from of social media
meaning they can find there favourite magazine on them and keep up will
all the latest gossip. A weakness I have is I didnât ask about magazines on
my questionnaire so there wasn't many things I could have absorbed from
the people who did the questionnaire as there was nothing for them to
answer to relate to my magazine. If I had of asked them things I might
have been about to add more visual things that the âpeopleâ would want
but because I didnât I had to make the magazine out of general knowledge
that I already had.
17. Audience
Appeal
The simplicity of the image is effective as much as it is
plain, this will stand out the my audience as the younger
generation like things that get straight to the point and
symbolises something. The black writing and the paw
prints on the vibrant orange background really make the
cover pop, this will grab attention and also shows a
hidden story within the cover. The bold easy writing will
stand out to not just younger people but those with
dyslexia or reading difficulties as it is clear and bold also
the orange is easier to read off rather than white or
lighter colours. The fact I have taken this into
consideration means that I havenât ruled out any of the
audience as I could have totally forgotten about the few
with hard times reading. In other ways the large writing
which is a appealing to most as it can connote a personal
feelings. As a younger person when I see this is see
aggressiveness and power and strength which is what
most younger people feel with there stress of exams and
life in general the song might seem like it is that then
when they listen to it they realise its calming which can
be better for them.
19. Feedback 1
⢠What did you like about the product?
The front cover is very fierce looking, it stands out a lot. It
appeals to the audience as it draws the attention to them. You
have many sub headings on, which shows your magazine will be
full of interesting stories. The poster shows a clear
advertisement of the concert. The single cover matches in with
the single cover.
⢠What improvements could have been made to the product?
The eyeliner looks a little off a if it is photo shopped which I
presume it is but apart from this everything seems fine.
20. Feedback 2
⢠What did you like about the product?
â I really liked the bright colours and fierceness of it all
really can tell the artist is a diva the schemes all fit
together well throughout the whole project also
⢠What improvements could have been made to
the product?
⢠I think the single cover could have had a little
more on it.
21. Feedback 3
⢠What did you like about the product?
â I loved the music video as you have to watch it and
feel the lyrics to understand what the video means as
if you donât the video makes no sense which I like as it
is make you connect which can make it more powerful
especially if you read what the songs about prior.
⢠What improvements could have been made to
the product? I didnât understand why the single
cover and the concert poster were very raw and
then the magazine pink and girly.
22. Peer Feedback Summary
⢠What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
⢠I really do agree with the single cover needing more but unfortunately I ran out of
time to think about what could do I also, with the eyeliner my tutor said it was a
good idea but then carrying it out was harder than expected.
⢠What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
⢠With the last comment on feedback 3 the reason it is:
⢠if you take an artist and you give them a crew to work on there designs, they will
link them and the crew would design the poster and the single cover.
⢠but the magazine would be designed by the people at âSpotlightâ so they would
take a different approach to it. Also they're magazine is full of different content not
just the artist so there have to do a very mutual front cover to make sure its not
too focused on one thing. Also itâs a very girly magazine that talks about gossip and
not just the music so it has to be a little more feminine as girls are the biggest
target audience.
23. Peer Feedback Summary
â I would make many changes if I could personally I donât think anything
can be done to perfection you could make it better and better each
time but there would be still something that could be done better but
realistically with the time given and the equipment not always there to
use some things just cant be done to the fullest quality you imagined
but what I have done n the time I have had to do it in not to mention
all the many power points I had to do as well I believe I did a very good
selection of work. I would have made my magazine a little bit more my
style with greens, I would have also liked to make my music video
longer and more of a better quality, taken a larger verity of pictures for
me to use as I didnât like most of he pictures taken and not many fit
the screen as tops of my head were taken off, I would have recorded
the backing music in a better way to make it sound more professional.
Made sure my editing was more crisp and neat and that there isnât any
confusion to what things mean.
