My Process in Photoshop
In creating this image, I figured out my set idea first. What did I want to convey with the images
I chose? I chose three of the famous female authors that my lesson plans talks about to put into
my photo. I started with a modern kitchen as my background because I wanted to enforce the
setting of the photo. Then I cropped Emily Dickinson, Jane Austen, and Maya Angelou out of
their original pictures using the lasso tool. After that, I used the inverse tool and deleted their
backgrounds to put them inside of the kitchen. I also found pictures of tea cups, a tea pot, and a
plate of cookies to set a theme: Tea Time with Famous Female Authors. I used the same tools for
those as I used with the female authors. After that, I decided to put myself in the picture. I used
one from Christmas and there is actually another girl in the picture with me, but I cropped her
out so that’s why it looks a bit odd. I decided to put myself in there because when my students
see this picture and think about what it’s asking, I want them to put themselves in the kitchen
with Angelou, Austen, and Dickinson. It took some editing and “cleaning up” to make them fit
and look natural. It wasn’t easy, and I am not the best at it, but it turned out well.
