Ensuring technology integration in a school campus
1.
2. While many schools differ in terms of
available technology, there are a few key
factors that will facilitate technology
implementation with what is available at
each school.
3. Professional Development
There needs to be effective professional
development that is:
Planned and intentional: Carefully selected
and geared towards the intended goals of
the school.
Ongoing: Occurs on an ongoing basis
throughout the school year.
4. Professional Development
A systemic process: Should involve having
teachers take active roles as well as
leadership roles. Teacher leaders should be
encouraged to create a culture where
professional development is school-wide
and long-lasting.
5. Leadership
School leadership needs to take on
multiple roles such as:
Role model: Lead by example
Leader of a Learning Organization: Set the
tone by setting high standards.
Motivator and Cheerleader: Encourage and
support teacher efforts
6. Leadership
Resource provider: Ensure teachers have
the resources they need
Facilitator: Provide learning opportunities for
teachers and identify barriers in order to
resolve problems.
7. Organization and School
Structure
There needs to be a school culture that
supports and encourages change by
allowing teachers the freedom to
collaborate.
School leaders should draw attention to
teacher successes in the
implementation of technology.
8. Resources and Support
There needs to be strong support in order
to implement the use of technology in the
classroom.
Technology Support: Help when
technology fails
Support for participation: Offering
incentives to encourage participation
9. Resources and Support
Administrative support: Administrators
are hands on and supportive through the
implementation of technology
Community support: Fundraisers by
stakeholders in the community to
purchase additional technology
