Linda asks…
What time of day do u find is the best to test using ovulation test
strips?
What time of day do u find gives u the best results when testing with urine ovulation test
strips?
I’ll be testing everyday from the day my period ends until i get a positive opt so we don;t
miss ovulation.
what did u find worked best for u when using the opt’s?
Pregnancy Advisor’s answers:
I test at 5:00pm
I make sure I don’t load up on too much water, don’t pee to many times before I test, AND hold
my bladder for at least 3 hours before I test. The urine needs to have a build-up of the hormone
in it for a positive reading.
Good luck!

2. Donna asks…
can ovulation test strips detect pregnancy as well?
My best friend is ttc. She ran out of pregnancy test strips, Her period is 4 days late, so she
decided to try an ovulation strip test (just incase) and it came up positive! All 4 tests she used
were positive infact! is it possible she is getting a positive pregnancy result from hc ovulation
tests?
Pregnancy Advisor’s answers:
They certainly can. LH (the hormone that surges during ovulation) is very similar to HCG (the
pregnancy hormone). OPK’s are only looking for LH, but because of the chemical similarities,
and the fact that it’s a less sensitive test, HCG can cause a positive on OPK’s. The same is
NOT true the other way around, though – pregnancy tests would not mistake LH for HCG.
I would caution her against using an OPK as the sole means of diagnosing a pregnancy – since
it’s possible it’s just an abundance of LH (which is always present in a woman’s body, to one
degree or another) but I’d say it’s quite likely she is pregnant. She should confirm it with an
actual pregnancy test and/or with her doctor, but it’s a good sign!

3. Nancy asks…
Do ovulation test strips tell you when you are fertile or ovulating?
I have been taking ovulation test strips for a few weeks and for the past 2 days there has
been one faint line and one bold line (meaning negative according to the packaging). Then
today I took one and it was 2 bold lines (I have taken 3 so far today and all have 2 bold lines)
which is a positive for ovulation. I am just wondering if it is testing for being ‘fertile’ or the
actual day I am ovulating. Thanks
Pregnancy Advisor’s answers:
You’ll ovulate the day after your positive test usually. What you’re testing for is the LH surge
preceding ovulation. This happens about 24 hours before the egg is released. Its a good idea to
have intercourse the day of and the day after a positive opk to make sure you have the best
chance of catching the egg

4. Im using the ovulation test strips. there is a dark line b4 it gets
pale on the test line is this normal?
My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant and I don’t have regular periods so I bought
a box of ovulation test strips. Each morning as far as I can tell it has been negative. The
control line is always darker than the test line but the test line has a dark line at the beginning
and then gets lighter. Is this normal?
Pregnancy Advisor’s answers:
Yes, for a positive ovulation both lines need to be the same color. 1 dark & 1 light is a negative
result. Get a clear blue easy fertility monitor a lil pricey but very accurate to the exact week of
ovulation. You can buy a used monitor off ebay & then all you have to do is buy the test strips
that last 3 months at like $30 a box from amazon or ebay. I also been trying for a baby several
years & i wouldn’t use any different. Good luck & sticky baby dust 2the both of us.
Carol asks…
How do you properly read ovulation test strips?
I got a negative test result on an ovulation test strip, I had two lines one was lighter so it said
4 / 6
5. that meant negative. What I want to know is why would a line show up at all, what is it picking
up does that mean you already ovulated or your getting closer to it? I know it means negative I
just wanted to know what the test is picking up in our urine?
Pregnancy Advisor’s answers:
Ovulation test detects lh surge. When it is as dark or darker than the line to compare to, then it
is positive. If it is lighter it is not positive. When i get a lighter read it usually means i will get a
positive read the next day. Also can be lighter post ovulation.
Mandy asks…
Help me figure out how to use the ovulation test strips?
I’m so confused at how the ovulation test strips work. I took a test on wednesday and it was
positive so i had intercourse. I took a test on thursday and friday and it said positive also so i
had intercourse those days also. Saturday it said negative. Is this right? Do i actually ovulate for
3 days or how does the ovulation test strips work? Did i do the right thing in having
intercourse those days? Please help me understand. I hope it works though!!!

6. Pregnancy Advisor’s answers:
Ovulation tests check test for a surge in LH, the luteinizing hormone (aka LH) that preceeds
ovulation.
LH surges 12-48 hours prior to ovulation. The egg can survive up to 24 hours after ovulation.
And sperm can survive 3-5 days.
Because LH surges for 1-2 days, it’s normal to get 2-3 positive lh surge tests in a row. So
getting three days worth of tests means you caught the begining of lh surge at hour 1, the
middle at hour 24, and the end at hour 48, completely normal.
That means your most fertile days are the day days leading up to ovulation til one day after.
Peak fertility is the day before ovulation to just after.
You managed to have sex on all of your peak fertility days. That puts your chances of
conceiving this cycle at about 25% chance (the highest they can get). So you did everything
absolutely right, there’s nothing more you could have done. Now its time for the killer two week
wait. Good luck!
