these are the SWOT's to my ideas exploring the audience feedback received from my ideas. these involved my Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats.
2. Idea 1 - Summary
• My first idea was on the importance of sports
and the impact sports has on SEN students.
Here my documentary will explore the
support and influence sport gives these
special educational students have.
3. Strengths
• There were a number of strengths offered for
the idea:
- Good/original topic
- good message to send as sport doesn’t
prevent you from succeeding.
- Unique idea/good style
Affects a lot of people but they never explore or
talk about it
4. Weaknesses
• People that gave me feedback thought:
• Not many people will want to speak on it
• Not necessarily a valid topic to cover
• Might be exploiting the abilities of individuals
• Story can’t be covered in 10 minutes.
5. Opportunities
• The opportunities suggested for me was
primarily cutaways:
- Filming/footage of special needs students
- Special needs students playing sports
- Relate to Paralympics
- Interview an LSA in school(s)
- Compare lifestyles between students with and
without SEN symptoms/needs
6. Threats
• The threats suggested to Idea 1 were:
- Interview someone professional who works in the
field
- Might be hard to explore any career as I may not
have any links or ties to people in successful fields
- Reflecting on my idea, I realized the threat that I
may not find any one willing to speak on their
child or themselves. Not having anyone willing
enough to express their situation will make it
hard for me to craft a good informing
documentary.
7. Idea 2 - Summary
• My second idea was a presenter lead
documentary. It was about an individual
informing me and the audience on his
situation regarding the challenges he faces
trying to become a successful basketball
player.
8. Strengths
• There were a number of strengths offered for the idea:
- A lot of people can and will be informed
- Not a lot of basketball players coming from the UK allowed the idea not
the documentary to be original; giving me a USP.
- Limited people in the UK playing the sport allows me to show how small
the basketball market is for people living in the UK.
- Well thought of
- Niche audience good for the documentary as It becomes easier to
advertise/market.
- Good idea to follow the leads life. Gain perspective
- Documentary relates to me so I emphasize with it more. This may mean I
take this idea more seriously as I’m most passionate about basketball.
- Relates to more sports other than basketball
- Original idea to take forward.
9. Weaknesses
• People that gave me feedback thought:
• Hard to appeal to more than one sport as it is
following the sport of basketball. Other sport
players might not associate the topic instantly
with their selves
• Genuine topic to explore
• Might be too serious
10. Opportunities
• Opportunities received were:
- Cutaway footage of people playing basketball
- Gaining contact with professional basketball
players
- Archive footage presentations of Basketball
games
11. Threats
• The threats received were:
- May be too informal for some audiences
- Gaining access in appropriate locations
- Gaining trainging time if the participant is also
currently in school/education
12. Idea 3 - Summary
• Idea 3 was a observational documentary
about the publics views on the construction
sites taking place in the south of London.
13. Strengths
• There were a number of strengths offered for the
idea:
- Interesting
- The documentary will be educating the audience
as it is giving them an insight to how it has
changed over the years
- Relatable to a younger audience
- Good idea and conventions
- Good argument to fight as the environment is
damaging
14. Weaknesses
• People that gave me feedback thought:
• Common topic
• No access or ties to gain
professional/expertise views
• Builders wont be able to talk about the site as
they will be working
15. Opportunities
• Opportunities received were:
• Could interview environmentalists speaking
about how the industry affects our daily lives
• Cutaways of building sites
• Expert interview
16. Threats
• Not that original
• May have too much to cover
• It could possibly lose specific/subject focus
17. Idea 4 - Summary
• Idea 4 was an observatioinal yet investigative
documentary about the use of young girl
wearing makeup. Here we are talking about
girls below the ages of 15 freely having access
to makeup. Is this tool aging them? Is it
exploited?
18. Strengths
• Strengths gained from feedback were:
- Interesting topic that should be explored
- Good topic affecting everyday lives of individuals
- Works well with other focuses e.g. social
networking
- Gaining both positive and negative views is good
to give a balance
- Good argument to fight
19. weaknesses
• People that gave me feedback thought:
• Topic can’t necessarily go into depth to
explore
• Young girls (intended audience) aren't going to
be interested in a 5 minute documentary that
is already expected to be one sided.
• Not really able to gain personal views from
younger girls who do and do not wear
makeup.
20. Opportunities
Opportunities received were:
- Could interview both male and females about
young girls wearing makeup and the attention it
can raise.
- Reassures and could be useful for females to gain
information
- Might influence their future decisions
- Talk to makeup company
- Can compare views o young and older girls
21. Threats
• No threats was offered in this idea however, I
reflected on my idea and thought that:
• The idea doesn’t seem to original, hard to
attain a USP hard to gain
• It would be hard to structure the documentary
varying the views of the public
