This multimedia publication summarizes the results of the Erasmus+ project "Power up! Get active for your future" which aimed to encourage students to take initiative and recognize their skills. The project involved 5 schools from France, Spain, Romania, Greece and Germany.
The publication is divided into two parts. The first part "Power up!" focuses on promoting a responsible lifestyle among students through exploring topics like nutrition, physical activity, internet safety and stress management. The second part "Get active for your future" helps students develop career skills like creating profiles and practicing interviews. It also provides insights into the job markets of each country through company visits.
1. Preamble
The chances for young people to find an attractive and challenging job does not only
depend on the quality of their school education but also on a variety of competences
such as the ability to work on their own initiative, the willingness to perform on a high
quality level, self-confidence and the readiness for lifelong learning. In the Erasmus +
project ‘Power up! Get active for your future’ we aim at encouraging and enabling our
students to employ their self-initiative and commitment as well as to recognize their
personal skills and competences in order to build their professional future.
Five European schools were involved in this Erasmus + project: The “Collége Louis
Pergaud” in France, the “IES Clara Campoamor” in Spain, the “Colegiul National
Ionita Asan” in Romania, the “Experimental Zosimaia Junior High School” in Greece
and the “Realschule Uetze” in Germany.
This multimedia publication summarizes the results of our project activities, and
provides with tools that could be used by teachers eager to carry on similar activities
with their students. It consists in two main parts: ‘Power up!’ and ‘Get active for
your future’.
The main aim of the first part ‘Power up!’ is to rise our pupils’ awareness for a more
responsible and active lifestyle. Habits concerning food, physical activity and the
critical use of digital media are seen as an important precondition for a successful
working career and for a fulfilled course of life as well. In form of brochures, power
point presentations and recipe books, typical food and eating habits of the
participating countries are presented. Different surveys show the students’ habits
concerning food and physical activity. ‘What is healthy food and what does our body
need?’ – a video gives answers to these questions. Furthermore, detailed information
about a balanced diet, nutrition and physical activity, eating disorders like obesity and
the influence of exercise on the psyche are given in this e-book as well. ‘A recipe
book for youngsters’ contains recipes for healthy dishes which can be prepared in a
short time – a combination that meets the requirements of the future life of the young
people. A fitness test compares the sportiness of the students in the participating
countries and short video clips show the different sportive activities during the
Learning / Teaching and Training Activities. A video clip informs about dangers of the
internet and existing European laws to protect personal data on the web. Finally it
presents ways to achieve an optimal work-life-balance. Different methods for stress
relaxation in form of games and dances are illustrated. As playing music is especially
valuable for stress relaxation, the contents of the project are processed in a rap
which is performed by the students of all nations in form of a podcast.
The second part ‘Get active for your future’ deals with shaping the students’ future
working careers. This part starts with the presentations of the different educational
systems in the participating countries. Brochures and power point presentations give
answers to the questions: ‘How does school prepare the students for their
professional future?’ and ‘What are the possibilities for vocational training that are
offered in the different nations?’ In close collaboration with a professional coaching
institution, general rules for a job application are worked out. Individual profiles of the
2. students with their goals, strengths and weaknesses are developed in different
workshops and job interviews are prepared and performed. Four video clips show the
situation in a job interview and demonstrate possible DOs and some absolute
DON’Ts. In order to offer the students a variety of impulses for translating their
personal skills into their professional future, selected companies were visited during
the Learning/ Teaching and Training Activities in each nation. In this way, the
students are offered an insight into the various possibilities of the European job
market. The researches on these companies are summed up and presented in form
of different podcasts, complemented by picture galleries.
Finally, the annex part “Getting to know Yourope” emphasizes the opportunities
offered by such an Erasmus + project: thanks to the European grant, 80 students and
their teachers actually got to visit their European partners.
This part focuses on the communication tools that were used throughout the project
by teachers and students to get to know each other but also to get organized. An
overview of the sightseeing activities during the Learning/Teaching and Training
Activities in the different countries is also presented in form of brochures, picture
galleries and videos to illustrate what they discovered when they met face to face.
